The Day I Kissed An Older Man -
Chapter 2525
"Grandma is still in the hospital, her condition unknown. We can't just sit around and wait." Melody's words brought Lucas back to reality.
"You're right. Grandma has always been healthy. She couldn't have fallen down the stairs like that..."
Thalia felt an ache in her heart seeing Lucas like this. Despite knowing him for so many years, she had never seen him so worn out like a trapped animal unable to replace a way out. She took a few steps forward, wanting to comfort him, but hesitated upon hearing their conversation.
In the end, she mustered the courage to cautiously voice her opinion, "Grandma Beatrice is old, and accidents like this can happen. I know it's hard to accept, Lucas, but you should also understand that your grandparents aren't getting any younger.
"Of course, I'm not saying that an accident couldn't have occurred, but I just want to tell you that even if Grandma Beatrice did fall accidentally, you shouldn't blame yourself too much. They're both at an age where these things can happen."
Thalia's somewhat convoluted speech caught Quinn's attention. She glanced at Thalia in silence. Ever since she learned that Thalia had killed her sister, she felt her longtime friend had suddenly become a stranger.
At that moment, she had no idea what Thalia was thinking. 'Thalia's never the one to speak so cautiously like this, so why is she acting like this now?'
Deep down, Quinn subconsciously suspected that this incident was somehow related to Thalia. However, after some thought, she realized that it was highly unlikely.
Firstly, Beatrice was Lucas' grandmother, and he cherished her deeply. Thus, if Thalia harmed her, Lucas would surely be devastated. Thalia could not bear to see Lucas in pain; just seeing him frown made he frown too, as if she wanted to shoulder everything for Lucas.
Secondly, it was Beatrice's birthday celebration. It seemed improbable that Thalia would commit such an act of harm against Beatrice in her own home. Even if she had the audacity, Quinn still could not imagine Thalia doing something like this.
Although Thalia had threatened Quinn, warning her about the consequences if she dared to reveal the past, those were just words. There had been no actual actions taken. Before witnessing Thalia's actions, Quinn was still willing to believe that her longtime friend retained a shred of kindness. She was reluctant to harbor the worst possible suspicions about her friend.
Lucas raised his head and cast a cold glance at Thalia.
Even Melody wore a disapproving expression. Lucas was grieving, so what good did it do for Thalia to say such things? It would be more helpful to assist him in replaceing evidence, to determine whether Beatrice fell accidentally or was pushed.
Melody did not believe this was a simple accident, but she preferred to believe it was an accident rather than consider the alternative.
"You two should go back," Lucas ordered. "There's no need for you to stay here any longer."
This was a family matter, and he did not want outsiders involved.
Thalia, however, was not willing to leave. "Let me stay and help you. Having one more person might help us replace the truth sooner, right?"
Her gaze was earnest. She even reached out to tug at Quinn, urging her to join in the plea. She needed to stay, to monitor their progress. After all, she must ensure that any oversight of evidence was promptly destroyed.
