“Ugh, it hurts! Mister… Ouch…” Corinne’s voice was trembling

a little and she gritted her teeth to endure the pain. Her face turned pale, and she looked like she wasabout to keel over anytime.

Corinne frowned uncomfortably. Her eyelashes trembled slightly, and her eyes were red. “My hands…”

‘Hands?‘ Jeremy glanced up and looked at the two little hands that he held in a tight grip against themirror. His pupils shrank suddenly as he let go of her and brought her two hands down to eye level sohe could check them.

Jeremy frowned tightly and asked her in a deep voice, “What happened? What did you do?”

Before she finally closed her eyes, she heard Jeremy calling her name in a rather nervous manner.

The next second, Jeremy quickly rushed out of the bathroom with the unconscious Corinne in his arms.

At the hospital, Corinne woke up to see a white ceiling up above and intravenous drips hanging justbeside her.

Her mouth was dry, and her throat felt sore. She wanted to get up but was unable to. She wanted toreach out for the water on the cabinet, only to discover that her hands were tightly wrapped in gauzejust like that of an oversized round ball. Her fingers were not in sight, and she could not grasp anythingat all.

She lay helplessly on the hospital bed and looked around.

Being the only person in the ward, the silence was deafening and terrifying. It was like the time hermother sent her to the hospital for treatment when she was a child. Her mother had told her to waitobediently in the ward while she went out to buy some food.

She watched as the liquid in the intravenous drip ran out drop by drop, but her mother never oncecame back.

Hospitals thus became one of the places she disliked most.

She was feeling in low spirits when a loud voice called out to her, “Corinne! You’re awake! I’m so glad!”

Corinne heard the sound and saw that Annie had walked in.

Annie rushed to the hospital bed and looked at her worriedly. ” I just went to the bathroom. Why areyour eyes red?”

Corinne’s lips curled into a smile and she answered hoarsely, I’m okay. I just slept a little too long.”

Annie then nodded. “Do you feel better now, then? Would you like me to call the doctor over and checkon you?”

Corinne shook her head. “No, it’s fine. Could you help me up and pass me the water? I’m feeling superthirsty right now.‘

Annie did as Corinne requested and carefully helped the latter up. She then put a pillow on Corinne’sback, then brought a glass of water over with a straw and held it up for Corinne to take a sip.

Corinne originally wanted to take the water glass to drink by herself, but since she was unable to holdthe glass with her hands, she could only accept Annie’s help as she stretched her head over and drankwith a straw.
