Rita blinked. "But what if something unexpected happens?"

Vince replied firmly, "None. Nothing of that nature will happen."

Rita wanted to ask if he would rush to her side if she, Karen, and Sadie were all in trouble, but she felt it would be too petty to ask. Seeing how exhausted her father was, she did not want to burden him further with such questions. Besides, she was afraid of his answer or hesitation.

Vince continued to comfort Rita until she fell into a deep sleep. This time, she slept peacefully until morning, perhaps because her father was beside her.

When Rita woke up, she felt like she had returned from another world. Vince kept his promise and stayed by Rita's side.

At that moment, he was standing by the window, sipping coffee. Despite not being very old, Vince had to admit that he was feeling the effects of the sleepless night. He would not have been able to keep up his energy during the day if it were not for the strong coffee.

"You're awake! Are you hungry? Should I have some food sent over?" Vince walked up to Rita happily.

"Thank you for taking care of me last night, Dad."

"No need to thank me. You're my daughter. Shall I have someone send in your breakfast?"

Rita nodded, but before Vince could call for someone, there was a knock on their door. Father and daughter exchanged a glance and smiled.

"Did you order breakfast in advance, Dad? How else could it arrive so quickly?"

Vince did not answer. Instead, he just smiled and opened the door to reveal none other than Karen and Sadie.

"Come in, come in. You two sure are early," said Vince.

Rita's smile faded. She had not expected to see the two women she hated the most so early in the morning.

Keeping up with her act of a good stepmother, Karen even brought breakfast for her.

"Why are you drinking such strong coffee so early in the morning?" Karen asked Vince.

Rita looked at her father with concern, but he just smiled. "I have to admit, I'm getting old. I stayed up the whole night last night watching over Rita because she didn't sleep well By morning, I was feeling a bit exhausted. Plus, I have a meeting later, so I really need this coffee."

"You should have told me earlier. I could've asked Donna to make you some chicken soup," Karen complained as she laid out the breakfast. "Rita, Donna made all your favorite snacks for you. Why don't you have some first?"

As if fearing Rita would turn Karen down, Sadie quickly chimed in, "Yeah, Rita, you're quite weak right now, so you shouldn't skip

breakfast. Mom was worried younet

might not want to eat what she made, so she asked Donna to make you something. Donna's skills are really exquisite. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't get to taste her cooking at home."

Sadie stuck out her tongue playfully, but it only made Rita sick to her stomach. Donna had followed Rita's mother to the Russells' home when she married Vince, so naturally, Donna leaned more toward them. Her cooking skills were exquisite, and the food she made was incredibly delicious. However, Donna rarely cooked unless Rita expressed a desire for her dishes. Not even Vince received this treatment. "Please thank Donna for me," Rita said politely.

She did not say she did not want to eat the food, so Karen naturally placed it in front of her.
