Chapter 304

While Corinne was leaning on the bed head with her eyes closed, someone knocked on the door, andan unfamiliar 40- something woman came in.

“Who are you looking for?” Corinne opened her eyes and

looked warily at the woman. ‘Why would the police officers let a random stranger in? Who is she?‘

The middle–aged woman bowed respectfully and said, “Miss Corinne, I’m the nurse that Mister Tommysent. You can call me Nancy. I’ll be here to take care of your diet and your daily needs. Don’t hesitate tolet me know if you need anything.”

Corinne raised her eyebrows. “Tommy? Tommy Jenkinson?”

The middle–aged woman nodded. “Yes. That’s him.”

Corinne frowned a little. ‘Why did he hire a nurse for me out of the blue? Did Jeremy leave? Guess hedoesn’t believe me anymore, not that I’m surprised since he and I don’t have any sort of genuinerelationship in the first place! Funnily enough, he seemed to have told me that he liked me and wantedme not to put a wall between us, and I almost believed it.‘

At that moment, another ruckus was heard from outside.

When Corinne heard that, she said to the nurse, “Could you tell the police to let that girl in? She’s myniece–in–law.”

Nancy nodded and did as she was told. Nancy brought Annie in

Corinne looked at Annie, then at the thermos flask she was carrying. “What delicacies do you have forme today?”

Annie raised the thermos in her hand. “Oh, this? Auntie, this is some chicken soup that I asked mymother to make for you. People always say that it’s best to drink soup when you’re sick! Maybe yourhand will heal faster once you drink it!”

Corinne smiled. “Thanks. I’m actually feeling a little puckish right now! Could you please fill a bowl forme and let it cool a little, Nancy?”

“Sure thing, Miss Corinne,” Nancy said. She stepped forward, took the thermos from Annie’s hand, andwent to one side to prepare it.

Annie looked at Nancy, then at the handcuffs on Corinne’s hands and feet, and pouted uneasily. “Areyou just going to let them handcuff you like this?”

Corinne shrugged and smiled indifferently. “I’m a suspect now, so it’s understandable for the police todo this and stop me from escaping.”

Annie huffed in anger. “Suspect, my foot! You’d never stoop to something so low! This makes me sobad!”

Corinne was stunned for a moment, and she felt a little sad when she saw how much Annie believedher even though they did not spend much time together. Jeremy, on the other hand…

Perhaps there was no point thinking about him at such a time.

She had stopped thinking about it when Annie somehow brought it up angrily. And then there’s theheartless Uncle Jeremy! Fern at wh a time, he still figh

Corinne only managed to get half of it, and it was natural for her to feel curious. “What did he do?”
