The Divorced Heiress’s Revenge -
Chapter 1847
Bella and Justin exchanged stunned glances.
It sounded like Ralph wanted to marry Carrie.
Mila exclaimed in shock, "Ralph, what are you saying? You want to marry Ms. Carrie? When did you start having feelings for that girl?! And why are you getting mixed up in Ms. Carrie's relationship with Mr. Hoffman? Don't become a homewrecker. Your thick skin wouldn't be enough to save you from embarrassment! The young masters of the Thompson family shouldn't get involved as the third party in someone else's relationship."
Ralph just stayed quiet.
Meanwhile, Justin and Bella stood there awkwardly in silence.
After a while, Ralph spoke with a tinge of bitterness. "Back then, I chose to give up because I saw that Carrie and Ryan were deeply in love, and Ryan truly cared for Carrie. So, I hoped that Carrie's path to love would be smooth and without trouble. I didn't want to cause her any problems."
'Didn't want to cause her any problems.' Bella lowered her gaze as she sighed to herself.
The truth was, Ralph and Carrie were quite compatible. They were both people who put others first and were understanding of those around them. They had strong empathy, and were very perceptive. Bella had often wondered if Carrie would be happier with Ralph. But when it came to love, dwelling on "what ifs" was useless.
"But now, Carrie is about to marry someone she doesn't love at all."
Every word Ralph uttered was filled with urgency, brimming with long-suppressed, ardent yearning. "If that's the case... Mom, I want to do what I want for once. I want to go after Carrie. I want to..."
"The news of her engagement to Jason Solloway has already spread. What do you think you're doing by interfering?" Mila sighed, feeling helpless. "Plus, you said they were in love. Even if they've split up for some reason, Ms. Carrie may not have a place for you in her heart. To put it bluntly, Ryan is the love of her life. Can you honestly commit to being with someone who loves someone else? Can you guarantee you won't end up regretting it or resenting her down the line? This path is harder than you think."
"Mom, when you married Dad, you knew he had someone he was deeply in love with. Did you ever regret choosing him?" Ralph asked, and his question struck a chord.
Justin immediately felt a tight squeeze on his arm and quickly glanced at Bella's slightly pale but beautiful face.
Mila spoke in a low voice. "My situation was different from yours."
"But we are alike in a way. I will only go for what want. I don't care about anything else." Ralph let out a self-deprecating laugh. "My principle is to make the one I love happy if I can't then I don't need to hold on to any limits."
"You're such a..."
"Aunt Mila, Ralph." Bella interrupted, walking in with Justin.
Mila's face stiffened, and Ralph stood up in surprise. "Bella, you heard..."
Bella smiled. "I heard your conversation earlier. But I wasn't eavesdropping on purpose."
Justin pressed his thin lips together. He thought, 'Not eavesdropping on purpose? This woman's habit of eavesdropping was practically written into her DNA, practically a walking human surveillance device.'
Ralph took a deep breath, his eyes shining with sincerity. "Bella, since you heard everything, I have nothing to hide. I want to fight for the chance to make Carrie my wife. Would that be okay with you?"
Mila's brows furrowed with worry.
She said, "Ralph, you're my only son,
and you've never been in a
relationship. Do you even
understand what love is? You spend all your time at the police station,
constantly investigating cases.
You've seen more dead women than
living ones!"
She continued, "You've only met Ms. Carrie a few times. Are you sure she's the one for you? What if you meet someone more suitable, someone better in the future?"
"Dad has plenty of flaws, but didn't you fall in love with him at first sight?"
Far-off in Meridan, Wyatt sneezed repeatedly.
Mila was left completely speechless. He was definitely her son, so stubborn that it drove her up the wall!
"Or... Are you worried about Carrie's sickness?"
"Ralph," Bella couldn't help but interrupt. "Aunt Mila would never think that. You shouldn't ask that."
Ralph realized he had misspoken, his gaze turning gloomy. "Mom, I'm sorry."
"I can see it. You really do like that girl."
