Clarice's eyes lit up.

"What's the reason?"

Grant's faint smile carried a chill like the night air. His voice was so cold and distant it felt almost otherworldly. "In my brother's life, apart from Ms. Thompson, there is another woman whose importance could make him act without hesitation."

The usually silent Jace unexpectedly spoke. "Are you referring to the woman who once saved Justin's life on the battlefield?"

"After Justin retired and returned from the front lines, he developed PTSD. His mental state deteriorated severely, even to the point of contemplating suicide. During that time, I often called him, urging him to hold on, to live well." Grant recounted in a low, slow tone, as though telling a story unrelated to himself. "I reminded him that my life was already worse than death. If he didn't survive, what would become of the Salvador family's future? Father and Grandpa would lose their support and be heartbroken."

"Sir, you are too merciful and kind," Clarice said, looking at him with pity and biting her lip. "If it were me, that would have been the perfect chance to eliminate Justin once and for all! I even regret it bitterly now. Why did I ever listen to Shannon back then and save him when he tried to end his life? He should have died then! If so, this trouble wouldn't be plaguing you now!"

Jace's dark eyes shifted to her, a cold glint within them. Though he and Clarice both served Grant, they could not see eye to eye. He was ruthless, but he only followed Grant's orders, doing precisely what was asked. On the other hand, Clarice was more like a festering tumor, scheming in shadows and seizing every chance to undermine Justin with insidious suggestions.

Compared to the viper Christopher, Clarice was just as ruthless, if not more so. Though they stayed out of each other's way, Jace could not hide the disgust he had for her.

"Am I really so kind?" Grant's lips curled into a smile. "Helping him was partially mercy, yes, but at that time, the Salvador family needed him to manage the bigger picture. I've never denied Justin's skills in business and management. Besides, if his life had ended back then, how would my connection with you even start?"

"Sir..." Clarice flushed with embarrassment.

Grant continued, "Back then, Justin often mentioned the girl who risked her life to save him on the battlefield. He said she wore a large mask, so he never saw her face. It was a regret that has haunted him ever since. He never knew her name, so he simply called her 'Little Dove'. For years, he's been searching for her, but there's been no trace. He once told me that this 'Little Dove' is crucial to him, and if he ever found her, he'd do anything to repay her for saving his life."

Realizing something, Clarice quickly asked, "sir, have you found this Little Dove?"

Grant gently stroked the parrot's feathers, his smile faint, and his gaze profound. "I've always known who she is."

"Who is she?!"

"Right in front of him, yet so far away."

Jace's eyes widened. "Bella?"

Clarice's eyes widened in shock, her words stumbling. "She... She's Bella?! Bella is Little Dove?!"

Justin's elusive savior, the one he's searched for, was right beside him! The coincidence was absurd and ironic!

Without a word, Grant placed a file on the coffee table. Clarice eagerly lunged for it, flipping through its pages. Her hands began to tremble as she read the information, her eyes flashing with a whirlwind of shock, disbelief, and gleeful, twisted satisfaction.
