Chapter 609 Waiting Is Not A Problem

He can only last two days?

Yael’s heart throbbed with pain. He could not imagine how his precious son was being tormented inanother cell.

“Cedrick, he’s your cousin and Dad’s grandson for goodness’ sake. You’re a heartless b*stard!”

As Cedrick emerged from the cell, he could still hear Yael’s faint swearing from inside. With a grim lookon his face, he continued walking along the corridor and pretended not to hear it.

Instead of returning to his office, Cedrick walked to the other end of the corridor where Xander waslocked up with a group of prisoners.

Just as an officer took out the key to unlock the door, Cedrick stopped him.

“It’s fine. I’m not planning to go in.”

He stood right outside and observed the condition inside through the cell bars.

Raoul and the others were sitting by the wall, some asleep, while others resting.

After scanning everyone in the cell, Cedrick-not wanting to startle the others-asked the officer softly,“Where’s Xander?”

The officer took a quick look around. “I remembered him being ostracized by the others and ordered tostay in the toilet at the back. Mr. Xander slept there last night.

Xander had always prided himself as the elegant son of the Jenson family and was a clean freak. Yetnow he had to sleep in a dirty toilet and did so without protest.

He has been spoiled all this while by the family. There’s no way he’ll behave if he isn’t taught a lesson.

“Mr. Jenson, would you like to have a cigarette?”

The officer pulled out an expensive-looking cigarette case and offered it to Cedrick with both hands.

Cedrick didn’t bother to look, let alone show any intention of taking one. “Send more men to keep aneye on this cell. Make sure no one is killed or seriously injured. I’ll be back tomorrow.”

“Understood, Mr. Jenson.”

Kieran brought Inez to Salinsburgh a few days ago and took her everywhere in the city.

They visited the largest horror theme park in Chanaca and experienced many terrifying games.

The most thrilling ride of all was none other than its famous Ferris wheel.

Inez finally felt reinvigorated after a fun-filled couple of days. Never before in her life had she droppedeverything at work and had fun without any reservations.

On that day, she and Kieran visited the most luxurious commercial area in the city which Harris Groupwas located within.

Since they were already in the neighborhood, it would be rude not to drop by Gwendolyn’s office.

After shopping till they dropped, the two of them visited Gwendolyn with their hands filled with bags.

Gwendolyn, who happened to have finished a meeting and was taking a break in the CEO’s office, wasdelighted to receive the engaged couple.

“You must be in a really good mood to have bought so many things, Kieran. You didn’t make Inez payfor them, did you?”

“Do I look like a stingy man to you, Kiddo?” Kieran replied in a calm yet monotonous voice.

Gwendolyn covered her mouth to hide her laughter. “I’m just worried that your cluelessness wouldscare Inez away.

Inez, too, couldn’t help but chuckle along with her. “Mr. Kieran insisted on paying for everything. When1 offered to do so, he took my bag away and just refused to let me.”

Gwendolyn nodded in approval and flashed a thumbs-up at her brother. “Well done, Kieran.”

Thereafter, she went to the bookshelf to retrieve her equipment for making drip coffee. She wanted tomake some for her two guests.

Kieran quickly followed her and took the equipment from her hands. “Let me do it. It’s been a long timesince you tasted the coffee I made.”

Gwendolyn allowed him to take them from her without protest.

While Kieran was quietly brewing coffee, Gwendolyn and Inez were chatting.

“Since it’s such a rare opportunity for you to take a break, why don’t you extend your stay and return toFairlake later?”

Hearing that, Inez turned to look at Kieran, who had his head lowered and was engrossed in makingcoffee.

He had heard Gwendolyn’s question. However, it was clear from his lack of response that Inez had thefinal say.

Retracting her gaze, Inez replied, “Sure. I have never been so free of responsibilities and had so muchfun before. Now, I plan to continue our holiday for one more week before going back to Fairlake.”

Gwendolyn expressed her support. “That’s a wonderful idea!”

Inez took Gwendolyn’s fair and slender hands and invited her with a smile, “Why don’t you and Mr.Jenson join us? I heard you haven’t had the chance to hold your wedding yet. You should come alongwith us and make it a destination wedding. I’m sure it would be fun with all of us around.”

The matters with Evelyn had been resolved, and before that, there was the matter of Gwendolyn andher manic episodes, which had taken a heavy toll on Cedrick. During the business trip to Astoria thelast time, they didn’t even manage to enjoy themselves,

All those reasons made Gwendolyn feel that she owed Cedrick a holiday.

However, Cedrick was now busy dealing with Xander and investigating the car accident that led to hisparents’ death. He would unlikely be in the mood for a holiday.

Gwendolyn came up with an excuse and said, “Forget it. The last thing Cedrick and I want to do is tobe

third wheels for you two lovebirds on holiday.”

Kieran persuaded her, “Don’t worry about it. The more the merrier. We’ll only be going out togetherduring the day, while the evenings will be spent separately.”

Inez couldn’t help but blush slightly when she heard Kieran mention that they would have their owntime in the evenings.

“That’s right, Gwendolyn. It’s more fun going on holiday together. I’m sure Mr. Jenson will be willing todrop whatever he’s doing to join you..

It isn’t just about his work….

Despite her thoughts, Gwendolyn did feel excited about the idea.

After pondering about it, she replied, “I heard Cedrick mention that he’s dealing with somethingsensitive at work recently, but I’ll ask him about it when I’m home. If both of you can’t wait, then goahead without us. You should just enjoy yourselves however you want to.”

Inez and Kieran exchanged glances. Inez replied, “We’re not in a hurry. We’ve overexerted ourselvesover the last few days and need a break. Anyway, waiting isn’t a problem. It’s so much more fun goingon a holiday together.”

Thereafter, both parties continued with their idle chatter.

Making sure that they weren’t imposing on Gwendolyn. Kieran and Inez left after finishing their coffee.

Sitting in her office chair, Gwendolyn suddenly thought of the car accident Cedrick’s parents wereinvolved in.

Over the last few days, she could clearly sense how unsettled he was by it. In fact, he didn’t sleep wellfrom deliberating on the matter at night.

It would be great if I can somehow help him with it.

After mulling over the matter quietly, Gwendolyn decided to give Shadow Bell a call.

“There’s something I want you to investigate… And replace out what Yael and his family were doing on theday of the accident.”

Listening at the other end of the line, Yulia-currently in Fairlake-replied awkwardly, “Boss, the incidenthappened twenty years ago. All the evidence would have disappeared by now. Besides, it isn’t easy totrack the movements of the Jensons.”

After a brief silence, Gwendolyn still insisted on trying. Just focus on Yael and his family’s movements. Iwant to know what they were doing that day. Get it done as fast as possible.”

“All right.”

Upon ending the call, Gwendolyn fell into deep thought.

Yael has used the matter as collateral to force Cedrick into releasing Xander. I wonder how muchGrandpa knows about it. Evidently, not many people know the truth of what happened. Given that Yaeldoes, is he somehow connected

to it?

Gwendolyn turned on her phone and gave Triss a call to arrange a meeting with David.

Only by observing David’s reaction to the incident could she discern Yael’s role in it.
