Chapter 636 Value Girls Over Boys

Nico was stunned. “Why would you think that? I may respect Cedrick and Gwendolyn, but marriage is abig thing. Of course I thought it through carefully before agreeing.”

Seeing how serious he was, Summer accepted his answer and continued with the next question. “Doyou think there’s something different about me today, Nico?”

She wiped her tears away, blinked, and intentionally leaned her delicately made-up face toward him.

In response, Nico studied her for a while but failed to discern any differences. “Did you… become moreof a crybaby than usual?”

Annoyed, Summer punched his shoulder relentlessly. “I knew I shouldn’t have asked you that question.You’re so dense! Can you not see the effort I put into my makeup?”

Nico was a well-trained man. Hence, his body was tough. Summer’s punches were nothing but ticklesfrom his perspective. It didn’t hurt him at all.

Resignedly, he clutched Summer’s restless fist and rubbed her knuckles out of habit. “All right, stopmessing around. Otherwise, your hand’s going to hurt

At least he still knows to care about my hands. Self-comfort was the only thing Summer could do whendealing with a man as dense as Nico.

Nico often wielded weapons, so he had calloused hands.

Meanwhile, Summer’s skin was soft and tender. He wasn’t light-handed, so he used the back of hishand to wipe her tears away. Unfortunately, he wasn’t skilled enough and accidentally ruined hereyeliner.

He stifled his laughter as he stared at his handiwork of turning Summer’s eyes into a panda’s. “Yourtears ruined your makeup, Princess. Should I ask an officer to send you back to wash your face?”

“Ruined?” Summer swiftly removed the small mirror in her pocket and examined her countenance withit I spent hours putting on this makeup, yet it’s all messed up before Nico can even admire it properly!

She was so devastated that she wanted to cry more. “My makeup’s wrecked, and you forgot you’resupposed to spend time with me! We’re about to be engaged, yet you can’t fulfill your promises! Itdoesn’t seem like you care about me at all. It’s not like I can’t get married if I leave you, Nico!”

Upon ending her sentence, she turned around and left in tears.

The officer stationed at the entrance approached Nico. “Your partner seems heartbroken, Mr. Nico.Aren’t you going to chase after her?”

Nico thought about the work he had to wrap up soon and ordered, “You chase after her and help mesend her back to the Jenson residence. If she wants to join her classmates for fun, follow her.”

“Roger,” said the officer before chasing after Summer.

Nico gazed at Summer’s back as she trotted away with teary eyes and shook his head resignedly.Even though she’s already twenty, she’s still acting like a kid. Am I sheltering her too much? Back whenI was twenty years old, I had already joined Cedrick on the battlefield at the border twice. I had tosurvive in that hostile environment, with bullets flying everywhere.

A sigh slipped from his lips as he recalled the issue of visiting Summer’s family before the engagement.

Once Cedrick returns from his vacation with Gwendolyn, he’ll likely mention the engagement toSummer’s family as the head of the Jenson family. I should contact her family as soon as possible.

Despite having been together with Summer for so long. I didn’t investigate her family backgroundbecause the doesn’t like it. I don’t think I can avoid doing that anymore, though.

On the way back to his office, Nico asked someone to investigate Summer’s family as soon aspossible.

Since I failed to fulfill my promise to take Summer out for a fun trip due to work, I guess I’ll buy her axylitol cake at night. Considering how much she likes sweet things, I think she’ll cool down after seeingthe cake. With that thought in mind, he returned to his office.

Meanwhile, Charles had almost finished settling minor affairs in Newton Group at noon. After that, hevisited Harrick Villa to meet with Benedict and Zendaya.

Zoey had just fed the children with powdered nutritious milk. By the time Charles arrived, the childrenhad finished guzzling down the beverage.

Smiling respectfully at Charles, Zoey said, “You’re here, Mr. Newton. It must be tiring for you to visit thisplace every day while Mr. and Mrs. Jenson aren’t home.”

Charles tone was composed as he replied, “I’m the children’s godfather, so this is what I should bedoing. It’s not tiring at all.”

Zendaya very much resembled Gwendolyn when the latter was younger.

Hence, Charles loved Zendaya. Every time he arrived at Harrick Villa, he would hug Zendaya for aslong as he could.

“How are Benny’s and Zendy’s lunch situation today, Mdm. Yarde?” asked Charles.

“Ms. Zendy’s appetite has always been good, so her lunch situation was no different from usual.However, Mr. Benny didn’t drink as much milk as he typically does.”

Logically, Benedict should be drinking more than Zendaya as a boy.

Yet, his appetite was waning.

As such, Charles settled Zendaya down in the pink crib and picked up Benedict from the blue crib.“Have you measured his temperature? Is he sick?”

Zocy nodded. “I did. His temperature is normal, so he does not have a fever. Also, as you can see, Mr.Benny seems to be in good spirits, so he’s probably fine. Maybe the rising weather temperature isnegatively affecting his appetite. Besides, his appetite has always been lower than Ms. Zendy’s.”

In response, Charles picked up a nearby toy to entertain Benedict a little. Benedict stared at the toywith wide eyes and giggled. Indeed, the baby boy did seem to be in good shape. “All right, then. Youshould pay more attention to him. If the room temperature is too high, you should turn on the airconditioner. Just remember not to make the room too cold. The temperature inside the room should beconsistently comfortable.

“I understand, Mr. Newton,” replied Zory.

Charles continued to shake the toy in his hand. “You should head downstairs. I want to spend sometime with the babies alone for a while.”

“Understood.” Without delay, Zoey exited the room and closed the door, allowing Charles to stay withthe

children.

Soon, Charles settled Benedict back down in the blue crib.

For some reason, Charles disliked Benedict a little.

“You’re the older brother, Benedict. One day, you’ll become a man. How can you not be as good asyour little sister? Once you grow up, you should follow in your father’s footsteps and receive the hellishtraining he did in the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Only then will you become an outstanding man,”lectured Charles before turning to Zendaya.

He played with the baby girl and pinched her chubby cheeks, which he loved to do. “If Gwendolyn and Ihave a daughter, she’d be as pretty as you, Zendy.”

When no one was around, he treated each baby vastly differently.

That night. Nico returned home with an especially beautiful xylitol cake that he had bought.

However, the villa was dark, as though no one was inside.

He searched for Summer everywhere in the building but couldn’t replace her.

It’s already nine. In the past, even when she was out playing with her friends, she’d be home by now.Every time, she would be obediently waiting for me on the couch. Whenever I opened the main door,she would hug me and call out my name sweetly. Today is unusual. Worried that something hadhappened to Summer, he called her.

The phone rang for a few seconds before it disconnected. A female voice then informed him that theperson on the other end was too busy to accept the call.
