The Ex-Wife Strikes Back By Queena Laurie -
Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Hearing those fawning words that hinted at her being weak–minded, Marcellus immediately lost interest.
Although she had a good figure, her character really made him disappointed. What was more, after a few days, the advantages brought by her identity and background would disappear, and then she would be even less attractive.
With a decision in mind. Marcellus regained his composed look.
“I didn’t wait for long. Is Melanie okay?”
“Mom is fine! She just mentioned you. You haven’t been at home for a long time, so she asked when you’ll be free!
“As you know, I’m really…”
“I understand you’re busy, so I explained it to my mom. It’s not a problem. Mom understands that it’s not your fault. I’ve spoken highly of you in front of her. Marc, how can you reward me? Maybe you can see if you can take a few days off? Let’s go on holiday! We’ve been married for so long, and we haven’t even had our honeymoon vacation. What do you think?”
Marcellus‘ eyes darkened as he thought, “Honeymoon? What a joke! I’m planning to divorce her. Why would I go on a honeymoon with her?”
“What do you think? I didn’t even have time to eat with Melanie. How could I take a vacation? Stop the nonsense already!”
“Well, but…”
Aurelia couldn’t help but look aggrieved and disappointed.
“Tomorrow is my birthday, and it’s our third anniversary. I just want to make a wish in advance! Marc, why are you so
fierce?”
After saying that, she lowered his head as if she was about to cry.
In fact, it was just to hide the coldness in her eyes.
“Marcellus, you’re still the same old Marcellus. Even if I were to be reborn ten years ago, you wouldn’t change a thing! That’s great. Since you have given up your last chance, don’t blame me!” Aurelia thought.
Marcellus didn’t know what was on Aurelia’s mind. He simply observed the naive girl before him, now acting coquettishly with tears in her eyes.
Of course, there was no pity in his heart.
He just took out a checkbook from his suit bag, swiftly inscribed a series of numbers, and signed his names on it.
Then he handed the check over. He said in a soft voice without any sincerity, “Well, stop your temper! We are an old couple now. You know how busy I am, and yet, you still brought this matter up so thoughtlessly. Can you blame me for being irritable? I know your birthday is tomorrow, but I don’t have time to personally select gifts for you. Here, take this. You can buy whatever you like.”
In the past, Aurelia wouldn’t want his money. Instead, she would feel very insulted and quarrel with him.
But at that moment, Aurelia caught a glimpse of the words “2 million dollars” on the torn check from the corner of her eye. She couldn’t help but smile sarcastically to herself. What a generous birthday gift indeed!
“2 million dollars! Great!” she thought.
On the day of their divorce in her previous life, he had also sent her away with a check for 2 million dollars.
This time, at least he had already given her a check before mentioning the divorce. It could be considered as an additional payment!
Chapter 11
She thought, “It would be a waste to not accept.”
It happened that she needed a lot of money right now!
She pretended to sob and took the check in a shy manner. She rubbed her eyes and looked up with an aggrieved expression, saying, “Marc, I’m sorry. I’ve been so thoughtless. Focus on your work! I’ll go out and have fun with my classmates on my
own!”
“Well. I’m glad that you’ve thought it through! All right, I have a lot of work to attend to at the company. I’m leaving now!”
Although Aurelia’s behavior seemed a bit odd today, Marcellus couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was wrong. After contemplating for a while and replaceing nothing out of the ordinary, he decided to ignore his intuition.
He had too many things to do now, so he didn’t have extra valuable time and wasted thinking about Aurelia’s subtle
transformation.
In his opinion, she was just useless and delicate eye candy. She could do nothing.
When Marcellus was about to walk out of the room. Aurelia had already taken the check and gently stroked her flat belly with coldness in her eyes.
She asked in a soft voice, “Marc, Mom asked me today when we’re planning to have a child. We’ve been married for three years, and it’s about time we start a family, don’t you think?”
“A child?” Hearing this, Marcellus‘ feet suddenly paused. Then he looked back at Aurelia coldly and gloomily. “We can talk
about it later! No rush!”
“Well, but…
“Hmm?”
“What if I am pregnant accidentally?”
Marcellus sneered as he thought, “How could she be pregnant accidentally?”
Since their wedding day, Marcellus had never intended for Aurelia to bear his child. He couldn’t afford such a careless mistake.
“If you are, terminate the pregnancy right away. I won’t hesitate to deal with a disobedient and willful woman, even if she is. my wife. Do you understand?”
Aurelia hurriedly took a deep breath and pretended to be frightened, nodding repeatedly.
Then, Marcellus turned around and walked out.
As soon as he left, Aurelia had already stood up straight and walked to the door. After making sure that he had gone downstairs, she closed the door.
She stared at her lower abdomen with a mix of complex emotions for a long time. Memories of her previous life, filled with various expectations and the subsequent pain and self–blame following the loss of her child, rushed back to her heart.
Despite being aware of Marcellus‘ cruelty, Aurelia couldn’t help but feel a surge of emotions in her heart upon hearing his words.
She had initially held onto her feelings for the baby and the desire to keep the child. However, the harsh reality she faced now compelled her to make a final decision.
Linda soon found that not long after Marcellus left, Aurelia changed her clothes and drove away.
But this time, Linda didn’t dare to call Marcellus and report Aurelia’s whereabouts.
