The Ex-Wife Strikes Back By Queena Laurie -
Chapter 46
Chapter 46
“Aurella, you’ve misunderstood me. The truth is, our divorce was triggered by a thoughtless remark you made. As a man, I couldn’t help but be concerned about my reputation, so it escalated to this point.”
“Hold on, Marcellus, are you telling me that you regret it now? Do you think I’m better and want to get back our marriage together?”
Aurelia’s lips curled up involuntarily, betraying her sarcasm.
“Aurelia, must you be so harsh with your words? I know deep down you still love me, but you just couldn’t accept that I didn’t even try to convince or comfort you before agreeing to your angry words and divorcing you!”
“But Aurelia, you must understand that I’m a man. It’s been sometime now, and we should have both cooled down. Your anger should have subsided, shouldn’t it? Moreover, Michael is going through a difficult time, and we can’t let him worry about our situation anymore. Don’t you agree?”
“Are you finished? If you’re done, then it’s my turn to say just two words to you. Dream on!”
After saying that, Aurelia coldly and decisively hung up the phone.
She looked up and caught sight of Scott’s concerned and sympathetic gaze. Startled, she asked, “Scott, what’s wrong?”
Aurelia gave a slight smile, trying to appear unaffected, but Scott’s gaze became even more filled with worry and concern. “Aurelia, are you okay?”
“What could be wrong? Oh, you mean that phone call? It’s nothing, not as serious as you think, I’m not upset about it. It’s just a divorce, that’s all. By the way, Scott, you don’t look down on divorced women, do you?”
Aurelia asked tongue in check.
Scott immediately shook his head. “Of course not, Aurelia. That’s not what I meant. I’m just worried that you might be feeling down. Um, well, you must have loved him a lot!”
Aurelia was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and couldn’t help but reach out and tousle Scott’s hair.
“Scott, you have quite an imagination. Do you think I’m some miserable heroine from a romance television series? No, that’s not the case. Maybe I had feelings for him when we married, but people change over time. Don’t let his words on the phone affect you. It’s just his self–righteousness! Anyway, I don’t regret our divorce, and I believe it was the right decision!”
“Really? That’s good to hear!”
Scott felt a sense of relief seeing Aurelia’s genuinely relaxed expression.
Then he looked at her somewhat sheepishly. “Aurelia, I hope I’m not being too nosy
“You think too much, Scott. Don’t worry, I don’t see you that way. I appreciate your concern!”
“Alright then. Aurelia, you won’t reconcile with him, will you?”
“Why would I? Well, you’re the patient now, so don’t worry about my affairs. Take some rest. Are you hungry? I can go out and get something for you to eat later.”
“No need, Aurelia. I’m not hungry. Have you had your meal? Why don’t you go back and rest? You’ve been busy all day. I’ll be fine staying alone in the
hospital.”
Just as they were talking. Aurelia’s phone rang again. It was Channing calling. Seeing his number, Aurelia remembered that she hadn’t thanked him yet after asking him to help her last time.
“Hello, Channing!”
“Hello, Aurelia. Are you okay?” Channing said worriedly.
“I’m fine. Channing, I wanted to thank you for your help last time. I’m planning to go to Nuthana in a few days. Let’s meet up and have a meal together.”
“Aurelia, we’ve been classmates for so many years. No need to be so formal. The reason I called was to ask about Mr. Swanson. Did he offend
someone?”
Aurelia immediately understood that Channing knew about Michael’s job and was transferred. She felt a little warm in her heart.
If it weren’t for this rebirth, she really wouldn’t have known that Channing is such a righteous person.
Her tone instantly softened, “It’s all right, Channing. For my dad, this transfer might not necessarily be a bad thing. Anyway, Channing, thank you so much. You helped me a lot last time!”
“Aurelia, I’ve already said that we’re friends. Please comfort Mr. Swanson a bit more. The people who will be filling in for the vacancy this time are also from Druobridge. It took me a lot of effort to figure it out.”
“Channing, thank you!”
“Aurelia, if you keep doing this, it won’t be fun anymore. Okay, let’s leave it at that for today. Come visit me when you have time!”
“All right, Channing. See you in a few days.”
Chapter 46
After ending the phone with Channing, Scott spoke before Aurelia could say anything, “Aurelia, you should go home. I’m fine. Look at how busy you are, and here I am causing you trouble. It’s really…”
“I don’t have much to do. It’s just answering a phone call. Okay, I’ll go get you something to eat!”
After saying that, Aurelia left the ward. Just as she reached the hospital lobby but hadn’t made it to the door yet, she saw Marcellus with a stern. expression walking toward her briskly, “Aurelia!”
Upon seeing him, Aurelia knew that Marcellus must have used some social connections to replace out that she was here, so he came to meet her.
Even though Navarre wasn’t big or small, Marcellus was a well–known local figure with no shortage of social connections. If he sincerely wanted to replace her, there were plenty of people who would inform him.
Therefore, it wasn’t surprising for Aurelia to meet him here.
However, not being surprised didn’t mean she was pleased to see him. Aurelia felt quite repulsed by Marcellus‘ stubborn and self–righteous behavior.
It seemed that if she didn’t give him a lesson, he would still think of her as the ignorant woman from her previous life.
She gave him a cold glance, pretending not to hear his call, and walked past him without a care.
“Aurelia, wait! What are you doing? Didn’t you hear me calling you?”
Marcellus, seeing that she saw him coming and instead of showing surprise or delight, she had an indifferent expression. He became irritated and grabbed Aurelia’s arm.
Aurelia immediately halted and fixed him with a cold gaze. “Let go!”
