The Ex-Wife Strikes Back By Queena Laurie -
Chapter 66
Chapter 66
“Aurelia, what do you think? What do you want to eat?” Jacob asked Aurelia instead of directly making arrangements.
Both secretaries were slightly surprised. It was unusual for Jacob to ask for a woman’s opinion.
Aurelia’s reaction surprised them even more. She didn’t seem happy, but she seemed displeased. She glanced at Jacob and abruptly replied, “Whatever.”
The secretaries couldn’t help but worry, thinking, “Aurelia seems to lack tact, especially after receiving a bit of favor from Mr. Miller. Has she become cocky already?
When dealing with spoiled and arrogant women, Mr. Miller never minced his words. It seems Ms. Swanson doesn’t have much of a future ahead of her!”
Unexpectedly, before they were done with their assumptions, Jacob laughed with a good temper.
“Are you angry again? Well, don’t worry, I will do what I promised you. These two are my personal secretaries and are not outsiders, so it’s fine even if they hear all this. Besides, when I’m busy, you can directly instruct them if you need anything.”
After Jacob explained, Aurelia’s expression slightly softened.
Although she wanted to say that she had nothing for Jacob’s personal secretaries to do, she still cared about Jacob’s reputation in front of them. She nodded gently and obediently said, “Understood!”
“Yes, that’s a good girl!” Jacob said, making Aurelia resist the urge to say something sarcastic. Instead, she quickened her pace toward the elevator.
She told herself that he was still young, and as a mature woman with a second chance at life, she needed to tolerate this young boy’s occasional immaturity and naivety.
Jacob had no idea what she thought of him. He was satisfied with embracing her waist and walking toward the elevator together.
Meanwhile, the two secretaries were still contemplating the situation. They couldn’t believe their ears, thinking, ‘Aurelia is angry at Jacob for being immature, but he doesn’t get angry. He even allows her to ask them directly for help in the future.
This is not a small promise. It’s practically allowing Aurelia to act on Jacob’s behalf.
In Jacob’s heart, he acknowledges Aurelia will be his mistress in the future.
She is the first woman they’ve seen in these recent years to receive such an honor.
This Aurelia is truly remarkable!
In just a short afternoon, I can’t imagine how she has captivated Jacob so much that he allows her to use his influence freely.”
They had underestimated her before, but now they completely changed their opinion.
Jacob clarified Aurelia would be the official mistress after his wife. They didn’t dare to offend or underestimate her anymore.
They exchanged glances and quickly caught up, hoping Aurelia could forgive their mistake. They relied on her to resolve the previous incident at lunchtime.
If she didn’t let it go, their jobs might be at risk considering Jacob’s temperament.
They had been working for Jacob all these years, and it wasn’t just about money. They received respect and flattery wherever they went as his secretaries.
They had grown accustomed to being highly regarded and respected. Who would willingly choose to return to a life with nothing?
Therefore, they had to do everything they could to keep their jobs.
With such a thought, Aurelia’s importance had naturally increased in their eyes.

They realized Aurelia would be more effective in resolving today’s issue than Jacob. Therefore, they sought her help.
As they pondered how to stop Aurelia from pursuing the matter, she had already moved past the trivial details in her thoughts.
She pondered, ‘My relationship with Jacob has been unpredictable, but I have achieved half of my purpose in coming to Xandenia.
I need to visit Father, the supervisor in Nuthana, tomorrow. Charles has also arrived in the capital of Xandenia, where he needs to handle essential company procedures and address the empty accounts. It will also be great to meet with him if there is
enough time.
Channing was suddenly called away at noon, leaving our meal unfinished. It must be because those two secretaries of Jacob have acted to divert Channing away.
Channing has done a great favor for me, both personally and professionally. It’s appropriate to invite him for another meal.
I have little time. Maddox needs to arrange the funds as soon as possible. However, Marcellus now had someone keeping a close eye on me. I have to be more cautious.‘
Originally, they had planned for Charles to handle it, but now it seemed necessary to replace someone newer and more reliable. They couldn’t afford to expose Maddox prematurely, especially before a successful turnaround. That would give Marcellus an undue advantage.
They were hungry and dined in the hotel’s private dining room to avoid the inconvenience of going out.
With Jacob’s reputation, the hotel had already prepared the best private room for them without prompting.
Not only that, the CEO came over in person, helping with the menu and even offering a fine red wine. After bustling around, he finally retreated respectfully amidst Jacob’s impatience.
“These people are always engrossed in their petty games and not focusing on the core of the business. It’s making it difficult for people to enjoy a peaceful meal. Aurelia, hurry and eat more. I didn’t see you eating anything during lunch!”
Jacob smiled, showing a few traits of maturity and thoughtfulness. However, Aurelia felt that he still looked too young. Despite his poised and seasoned demeanor, she struggled to treat him as a mature man in his thirties. She doubted whether he was older than 25 years old.
Aurelia felt a strong sense of discomfort, watching him neglect his meal while solely focusing on serving her.
She couldn’t tell if Jacob’s behavior towards women was genuine or to impress her.
Aurelia was confused and struggled to adapt.
She abruptly halted his kind actions.
“Um… Mr… Uh… Jacob, you don’t need to serve me. Please enjoy your meal. After all, it’s you who’s been mentioning how hungry you are. I’ll serve myself.“”
“Why? Are you not used to it? Didn’t I tell you that you’ll get used to it over time? Don’t you like it when I treat you well?”
Aurelia cursed inwardly, “How can I like it when you’re doing this? I almost have indigestion!”
