The Failed Rejection -
Chapter 30
Noah pov
The last few months have been very hard on me as well as my wolf Niko. Penelope hasn’t emailed except random emails telling me how she does in her classes. She will tell me how her family is. Penelope won’t tell me anything personal, or how she feels about me. Niko blames him for doing this to their mate bond.
Noah can’t defend himself, because his wolf is right.
Noah talked to his supervisor about possibly leaving. His supervisor was firm, he signed an eighteen month contract. Unless there was a death in the family he had to fulfill it. Noah was only six months in. While he loved helping people, and saving them. Noah wanted to get back to his mate.
What’s worse is the fighting has gotten worse in the area where the hospital is set up. Noah’s afraid that the enemy is going to start attacking civilian hospital personale. But those fears are irrational, right?
Noah hadn’t let his wolf out in at least a month since the bombings had gotten closer to the hospital. Niko was on edge, Noah wasn’t sure if it was because Niko had been cooped up for so long or he missed his mate.
.
Noah was in the middle of surgery when the bombings started coming closer to the hospital. They have been in surgery for sixteen hours already due to the increased bombings. Noah has had to do three complicated leg amputations already. Noah was working on one right now. Gideon was the anesthesiologist.
“He’s BP is dropping Noah,” Gideon told him.
“How much?” Noah asked as he cut some sensitive nerves.
“It’s 60/80,” Gideon told him.
“Keep an eye on it,” Noah responded as he continued to do his work. The worst thing was the shock. This man had stepped on a mine.
“Got it,” Gideon said as the ground was shaking beneath their feet.
“Damn it, it’s getting closer,” Noah commented.
Noah’s werewolf hearing picked up something going on outside the ER.
“You hear that?” Gideon asked. Noah gave a small nod in the affirmative.
“Hear what?” The nurse asked confused. Noah didn’t pay attention, he was at the tricky part of the amputation. Well it was all tricky to be honest. He continued to work,
“We have to evacuate, they are headed this way,” his supervisor voice could he heard above the din in a panicked voice. Noah looked up to see if Gideon heard. By the fear in Gideons eye, he did.
“How’s the patient’s b***d pressure?” Noah asked.
“No change,” Gideon said after monitoring the patient. Noah didn’t comment,
“Suction,” Noah asked the nurse. Suddenly shocks were felt throughout the ground.
“That was definitely closer,” the nurse stately scared.
“Focus or I’ll get another nurse!” Noah said sharply. Call him an a*****e, but the patients life depended on his and the nurses to be one hundred percent focused on the task.
“Yes Doctor,” the nurse said meekly. Noah continued operating for at least another with the earth rumbling beneath him. Noah was just about to finish up when the world exploded around him.
.
Svetlana pov
Svetlana looked at the large bear shifter in shock. After declaring to the room that she was indeed his mate, the man switched gears and acted like she didn’t exist. Svetlana didn’t know if it was because he wanted to get the situation she was called for under control. Or he didn’t want her as a wick. Svetlana didn’t know how to react, so she didn’t at all. Svetlana had waited three hundred years for her wick, she could wait a few more hours.
“Killian, I’m glad to see you, you too Penelope,” Axel greeted.
“Svetlana it’s so good to see you.” Penelope went back to saying.
“Yeah sweetheart it’s good to see you too, how’s that sister of yours?” Svetlana asked.
“Good, she’s pregnant again,” Penelope said with a smile. Penelope’s smile slipped away. “Any word about Nat?” Penelope asked seriously. This made Svetlana’s smile freeze. How could she tell Penelope that Nat got into contact with her, but her daughter didn’t want anyone to know where she was. Nat didn’t even want her to know where she was. Svetlana just got an email from Natasha saying she was alive and safe.
“She contacted you didn’t she?” Penelope asked in shock. Svetlana didn’t know what do say, she had to protect her daughter. Killian walked up to them,
“What’s going on?” The alpha asked looking back and forth.
“Oh just wait until Lili replaces out that her so called best friend has been getting ahold of her mother, but not her,” Penelope said snidley.
“It’s not like that,” Svetlana defended.
“No!” Killian boomed and let some of his aura out. Killian’s aura has gotten more powerful as everyone in the room had responded to it, even Svetlana wanted to bare her neck. She wasn’t even a shifter, witches were normally immune.
“Lili has enough to worry about with the pregnancy. You will not disturb her with this,” Killian commanded. “Come on and figure out this situation Svetlana,” Killian commanded. Svetlana would normally ignore his command, but given what she accidentally revealed Fitz knew she needed to do her job. She was given a bit of background. The young alpha werebear was almost killed, and he had amnesia. Penelope and her new mate had been looking for his family for several weeks when these three werebears suddenly showed up.
Svetlana didn’t ask why didn’t didn’t do a simple DNA test, that wasn’t her call. As a witch she could easily see the familial bonds attaching everyone. Svetlana could also see mate bonds as well. It was just a matter of adjusting one’s eyes, sort of like auras. Svetlana followed everyone into an office where Killian started off the discussion.
“I’m alpha Killian from the Midnight howlers pack-“
“Ugh a wolf” the unknown female said.
“Silence!” Killian roared, and every one who wasn’t an alpha in the room bared their neck in submission.
“One more outburst, and you will be spending the night in the dungeons,” Axel said. Svetlana found herself being turned on by her mates harsh tone. Fitz saw Axel’s nostrils flare, smelling her arousal.
“Now we were brought here to replace the truth of the matter, that’s why I brought Svetlana in on this,” Killian nodded his head to her. She stepped forward,
“Anyway want to come clean now before I start?” Svetlana said as she walked toward the four bear shifters. She honed in on the three, the supposed parents and son. Everyone shook their heads negative.
“All right,” Svetlana adjusted her eyes, started to unfocused them. Svetlana first saw their auras, Braxton’s was an orange ish red color. That was a good color for an alpha to have. However, looking at the two females there were tinges of green, which is the sign of jealousy or envy. All three of them had dark blues and grey which meant they had dark intentions.
Svetlana adjusted her eyes again, and saw the bonds that everyone has, they are all unique like a fingerprint.
“What do you see?” Killian asked her.
“While they do share a familiar bond,” Fitz saw the couple relax. “These two are not his parents. They are his aunt and uncle.” The couple tried to run, but were restrained.
“The woman is your mothers sister,” Svetlana said after looking deeper into the bond.
“So is my name Braxton?” The alpha asked. There was silence, Svetlana didn’t know. That wasn’t part of this.
“Answer him!” Killian commanded.
“Yes!” The male shifter asked, the male was clearly the lower rank of the couple.
“What about her? Was she my mate?” Braxton asked. Silence.
“Answer him!” Killian commanded.
“No, I’m not we should be though,” the pathetic woman said.
“Do I have a mate?” Braxton asked.
“No Brax, not any more,” his aunt said.
“What do you mean?” He asked in a sad but firm voice.
“She was killed, it’s why you left in the first place,” the woman continued.
“Is she lying?” Braxton looked around. While Killian commanded them to tell the truth Svetlana looked for his mate bond.
“I’m sorry Braxton but it is the truth,” the male bear shifter stated.
“Braxton, I do see a broken mate bond, I’m sorry.” She said, Braxton nodded and stomped from the room.
“Take them to the dungeons,” Axel stated.
Svetlana waited until everyone cleared the room for her to talk to her mate.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t want a mate,” Axel said. She was heartbroken, but she didn’t let it show.
“I waited three hundred years, I can wait a little longer,” Svetlana pulled out her business card. She handed it to him,
“Call me if you need me, I’ll give you the wick discount.” Svetlana teleported out of there, and went back to the small cottage where she raised her daughter.
She laid down in the small bed, and cried her eyes out.

Noah pov
Noah woke up confused, and disoriented. He felt a hand on his chest pushing him back down. Noah, and his wolf started to panic.
“Noah, calm down. It’s me Gideon,” Noah heard his friends voice.
“What’s going on?” Noah asked.
“The hospital was bombed before we could evacuate, you were hit pretty bad,” Gideon told him. Noah opened his eyes, and saw his friend looking at him grimly. Noah didn’t feel anything. He started to panic.
“Noah don’t panic. Everything is healing nicely. You have all of your limbs,” Gideon told him.
“Where am I?” Noah asked.
“In a Military hospital in Germany. They air flighted you out. I oversaw the operation on you. Made sure they didn’t give you anything that wouldn’t mix well with our physiology.”
“What happens now?” Noah asked.
“Well Noah, your going to go home,” a voice said from the left of them. Noah turned to the voice.
“Home?” He asked.
“Yeah I performed the surgery, you will have years of physical therapy ahead of you. Lucky for you, your hands were spared. So you should have no issues being a surgeon again.” The doctor said, and Noah chafed waiting for the damn doctor to leave to ask Gideon the real situation. The minute the door left Noah asked,
“What-?” Gideon interrupted.
“I haven’t let them touch you since you got out of surgery. I write all of your charts as if you are a human. You are already almost healed. The most concerning injury was your head injury. You hit it hard when you fell.” Noah let out a heavy sigh, relieved.
“Why can’t I feel anything?” Noah asked.
“I gave you some damn good drugs, they should be wearing off in a couple of hours,” Gideon said.
“Am I still going home?” Noah asked. Gideon nodded,
“As long as you can fake it,” Gideon laughed. Noah did too,
“To see my mate again, you bet your a*s I can.”
