Penelope pov

“Brad why are you coming with me?” She asked.

“With a council member being involved this just got a lot more dangerous,” Brad stated.

“Let’s get out of here,” Noah said.

“You need to get out of here Penelope,” Brad said before they left the room. Penelope wanted to fight them, but she didn’t Brad was right. Penelope wasn’t a fighter, she had did the mandatory training when she was growing up, but after that she only trained sparsely when she was home from college. That all changed after Liliana got pregnant and Lili didn’t tell their parents. The two of them moved in together and Penelope didn’t go home during the summer. She became a paramedic; not only for the experience, but the pay was damn good for a twenty year old.

Penelope rarely trained in either hand to hand combat or in her wolf form. Koko could take out the random rogue wolf, but not whatever is going on. The three of them walked outside the club and were quickly pounced upon by Nick.

“What the hell is going on?” Nick growled out.

“Where’s Chris?” She asked completely ignoring him.

“In our car, what is going on?” Nick asked again. Penelope turned to Brad,

“Do you have somewhere for me and Chris to go?”

“Whose Chris?” Brad asked her.

“The human I came with whose been looking for his friend,” Penelope explained. Brad g*****d,

“Penelope!”

“How was I to know we’d end up at a shifter bar in Boston? He was supposed to be dead! If I remember the guy is your friend,” Penelope reminded him and Brad winced.

“You don’t have friends at the council.” Brad corrected Penelope, Nick interrupted,

“You work in the council? What is going on?” Nick was really getting annoying.

“Noah can you please muzzle you brother.”

“You little b***h,” Nick went to slap Penelope but Brad stopped him.

“Don’t tell me your sleeping with her,” Nick said snidely. Brad let out a vicious growl that had both of them cowering.

“You both disgust me. I’m here to help my pack help a child in danger and your here to cast disparaging remarks about me and my sister. Which are in no way true? What is wrong with you people?” Brad asked with disgust in his eyes. Brad turned to her,

“I’ll escort you to where we’ve been staying.” Penelope didn’t notice that Noah had left, but he came back with Chris.

“Penelope!”

“It will be okay Chris, my brother is taking us somewhere safe,” Penelope said and they started walking. Penelope noticed that Brad was constantly on guard. So Penelope stayed quiet, Chris was babbling to himself. It wasn’t until smother group got to the dumpy hotel that Penelope decided to speak up.

“Brad you need to be careful.”

“I can handle a council experiential Penne,” Brad said as he led them to a room and open the door. Penelope waited until Brad opened the door and pushed Chris through it. Penelope shut the door and looked between Brad and Noah.

“That’s not all he is.”

“What is is Penelope?” Noah asked

“He was a combat medic in the military, and he unknowingly gave medications to shifters.” Penelope couldn’t help but remember the look in Max’s eyes when he talked about the odd reaction to meds.

“What is it?” Brad asked. Penelope shuddered.

“I called the council cause this man terrified me, he has some sick fascination with extermination and medications. Be careful, don’t underestimate him.” Penelope gave the men the final warning and went inside to try and calm down Chris.

Braxton pov

It wasn’t long after he sat back down that a lot of chattering started up. The men started to move to the long table in a small alcove that Brax hadn’t noticed before. The room reminded him of a board room. The room was windowless and had no adornments other than the table, chairs, and a large plasma tv hanging at one end of the table. Killian sat down at one of the chairs and Brax stood behind him as bound muscle is supposed to.

Without warning the large plasma tv turned on, and Braxton was shocked. Braxton kept his poker face in place as the tv revealed young people locked up in cages. A voice came accompanied the video, but no person was present.

“Welcome to tonight prestigious auction gentlemen.” The voice was clearly male, but other than that it had no distinct accent that Braxton could discern. The camera started to pan around the shitty area that these people were holding these people in. The phone vibrated in his pocket.

K: pay attention to the location. Anything you see give to Brad. Ignore the victims if possible.

Braxton ignored the voice on the tv that announced there was over thirty supernaturals locked up and the youngest was only five years old. Brax focused not on the people for the moment but the building itself. It was just a shitty looking building as far as Brax could see. The cages were clearly brought in by the auctioneers, so no help there. Brad could tell as they were in the middle of the room, not bolted to the wall.

Braxton tried to focus on anything but the scared people. It seems the auction had started when some called out,

“Fifteen thousand!” Braxton wanted to throw up. He had to keep his focus, he had to replace a way to locate them. When the first sale was over and the camera panned over to the next person he saw something. Braxton saw a large refrigeration unit. Brax didn’t know if that would be useful or not but he pulled out his phone and texted Brad.

Braxton continued to watch and see if any detail would jump out at them, or these auctioneers will slip up.

Brad pov

This situation has been one giant f**k up after another. If he was working for the council Brad would pulled the plug the second Penelope walked in the club. However, as he is working for Killian Brad had no choice but to follow orders. The burner phone buzzed in his hand.

B: I thought I saw an industrial refrigeration unit.

Brad thought for a moment, that could mean several different places. He looked to the man next to him, Penelope’s ex-mate.

“Are you local?” He asked the man.

“I was, I moved around a lot for my job. If you need local information my brother is your guy.”

“Call him over here,” Brad said and then went into the next room where the group had set up their base of operations. Brad quickly texted everyone else the information in case Braxton was unable to do so. Brad pulled out his laptop and set it next to the map.

He started a quick search of any possible locations. The building had to be abandoned obviously, but other than that there were several possibilities. Restaurants, convenient stores, grocery stores, butchers, hell the possibilities were endless. Brad quickly marked possible locations on the map. He already had ten when there was a knock on the door. Brad quickly opened it allowing several people in the hotel room. Brad recognized Holden and Noah but not the other two.

“This is my brother Nick and Nash,” Noah introduced.

“We need to replace all the possible locations of a large refrigerator units would be at. Like they would use at a restaurant or grocery store. This is what I found so far,” Brad said. Everyone started to look and toss out suggestions.

“What about here?” Nick suggested looking at the map and thought it as a possible location. However, when he pulled up the specs Brad knew it was too small.

“Too small.”

“How can you tell?” Nick sneered.

“I’m looking for something that can hold at least twenty human sized cages. They will range in age so some will be child sized, but at least half will need to fit an adult woman. That property used to be a corner market, not enough room.” Brad explained to the room and continued to look.

“That’s what your here for? Trafficking?” Nash asked.

“Yes, the buyers were looking for a myriad of purposes. Vampires were wanting b***d bags, some wanted moldable soldiers to train, and of course the old fashioned s*x drives.” Brad explained as he continued to look. Nash comes over to the map,

“Well if it’s that many people for sale that limits some of these places. They need a decent place to keep their assets protected,” Nash explained looking over the map. Brad didn’t debate he just waited for the wolf to continue.

“It also should be relatively close to the club for easy transport.” Nash looked over the map and pointed at one spot.

“Here,” then he moved to a different spot. “Here, these are my two guesses.” Brad looked at both locations and pulled out his phone calling Axel.

“Hello?”

“Axel, there’s an abandoned restaurant on your six. It was named “La Famila Bakery” it’s a possible location for the assets. Scope it out.” Axel agreed and hung up.

“All right, Noah, Nash, Holden you three come with me.”

“What about me?” Nick asked.

“You don’t have the temperament for this kind of thing. Stay here.” Before the wolf could complain his brother interrupted,

“He’s right.” Brad wasn’t paying attention to the conversation as he was pulling out his weapons. He grabbed his double shoulder holster and shrugged it on. Brad slipped on his gloves and pulled out his matching 1911 Smith and Wesson handguns. Brad quickly checked the magazines, they were full with .45 caliber silver bullets. Brad put his guns in the holsters and put several magazines in his cargo pockets. Brad grabbed the crossbow he was given for Christmas, and headed for the door. Brad got his bearings as he headed toward the location. Brad’s phone buzzed in his pocket, he checked it.

A: all clear.

s**t, so it’s more than likely this place we are headed to. Brad decided to pick up the pace, and ignore the i***t whose been trying to question him all night.

This definitely looks like the place, Brad can tell given the patrolmen on the abandoned building. Brad could tell by the smell that the guards were rogues. Brad sent a quick mass text that he believed to have found the location, but wasn’t one hundred percent certain.

Time to take care of the guards. Brad lifted his crossbow, and fired two quick shots before quickly reloading then firing a third. The guards lay dead without even knowing what hit them.

“Holden, Noah, scout the property for more guards. I’m going to try and replace my way in.” Brad had to replace the best way to get into the building without getting himself or the victims killed. Brad creeped up to the building and managed to get a peak in the window. He saw the cages, this is for sure the place.

His wolf started to get antsy, pacing back and forth in his head. That was highly unusual, his wolf has retreated into his mind for years. Brad pushed his wolf back, and got down to business. Brad got out his glass cutter he stashed in his right pocket. Brad made a quick circle cut and tried to catch the glass but it fell.

“s**t!” He cursed himself. Brad waited for anyone to come and check out the voice, but no one did. Brad reached inside and started to unlock the window. It took a few minutes, the building was old and the latch had rusted. Brad finally managed to open the lock and slowly started to slide the window up.

Brad deftly got in the building and checked inside for guards. Brad didn’t see any but kept his guard up. The room Brad was in was definitely the former kitchen or storage room. Brad walked further into the building and was instantly drawn in by the sweetest smell ever.

“Mate!” His wolf growled. Brad tried to follow the smell, but he couldn’t as the distinct smell of rogues filled the air. Brad had to figure out a plan on how to save not only his mate, but everyone these bastards are trying to sell.
