Surprise, surprise things continued to get only more chaotic. Killian was given the report about what happened, but it had to be interrupted as he got a call from his Beta. While they were on hold Brax watched the Axel and Svetlana avoid each other. He thought that was odd as they were supposed to be mates. Suddenly interrupting his thoughts was Killian as he can back on the phone.

Killian gave him a quick brief about what his Beta found. Brax wasn’t sure how to react at the replaceings other than feeling horrified.

“We need all the people we can, the werewolf council only has elite warriors. I’m calling some other allies. Axel can you spare some men?” Killian asked.

“When are you moving?” Braxton asked and he heard Killian sighed.

“Seth is doing his best to keep surveillance on the place to watch for any odd movements so we can wait for Brad.”

“Why do we need to wait for Brad? We need to move now!” His brother Denali said furiously.

“Don’t be an idiot.” He said vehemently. “Brad is part of the council, he may be able to get in there and get the people captive out under the guise of new council orders.”

“My thoughts exactly, he has the ear of Alpha Brooks a very powerful elder. If anyone can avoid unnecessary bloodshed it will be Brad.” Braxton looked to Axel who seemed to be in agreement. The alpha’s were all in agreement in how to approach the compound.

The room erupted in whose coming and doing what. While Brax remained silent. He planned to go see his mate and take care of the bastards who almost killed him. This though, this was the head of the snake. The snake always had a million tiny snakes that splintered off and caused headaches for everyone else later on. What course should he take? His bear was strangely quite in his mind.

“Braxton,” his brother called to him shaking him out of his thoughts. Braxton looked to see all of the room looking at him.

“What is laying so heavily on you?” Svetlana asked walking up to him.

“I’m not sure what the best course of action is here.”

“What does your heart tell you to do?” She asked him and Axel scoffed. His brother Denali was pissed off about that and gave him a dirty glare. Axel ignored it.

“It says to go to my mate,” Braxton said honestly. She smiled at him,

“Then that’s what you should do, and to be honest Penelope is a lucky woman.” Svetlana didn’t say it with scorn in her voice, but it was a clear dig at her own mate and no one in the room missed it. Axel scowled but said nothing.

“I’m with you brother, Killian will have enough allies,” Denali told him.

“I think we should go and see this through,” Dakota told him and he nodded.

“Call father first and see what he thinks, if he needs you at the pack then one of you needs to return,” Braxton decreed.

It was five hours later Braxton was on the plane headed to see his mate with his brother and his mate Alana. His brothers, after given the all clear by father, headed back to the Midnight Howlers pack with Axel and several White Claw warriors. Braxton spent the whole flight debating on whether he made the right choice or not. However, when he got past security and saw his mate waiting for him he knew he made the right choice.

Penelope’s eyes lit up and she ran to him jumping into his arms. Braxton laughed as she wrapped her legs and entire body on him like a snake.

“Goddess I missed you mate!” He whispered in her ear.

“I missed you so much LB,” Penelope told him as he squeezed her back.

“LB?” He heard Alana ask. Penelope realized they had had company and got off of him unfortunately as he was sporting an e******n. Penelope stayed close enough so people wouldn’t see it, but that also meant it wouldn’t go away.

“Yeah it’s his mates nickname for the Alpha, don’t know why,” his brother told his mate. Braxton reluctantly looked away from his mate and explained,

“Well when I had amnesia Penelope didn’t call me John Doe like the hospital. She knew I was a bearshifter so she thought it would be hilarious to call me Little Bear, or LB. The nickname seemed to have stuck.” Denali and Alana smiled seemingly enjoying the story, but it was overshadowed by the fact that their alpha was injured enough to cause him amnesia. “All right Denali you remember Penelope. Penelope this is Alana this is Denali’s mate, but more importantly she is one of our top warriors.” The females shook hands,

“It’s nice to you.”

“You as well,” Alana said to Penelope. They quickly picked up their luggage and took a cab to Penelope’s new apartment. While her apartment wasn’t much, it was definitely an upgrade from her dorm room.

“Okay guys I know it’s not much, but I went to the store and got you the best air mattress I could afford. We can set it up by the couch after dinner.” There was an open floor plan for the kitchen and living room. Brax saw a two doors, one was obviously the bathroom and the other was for the bedroom. The men immediately went to start unpacking while unloading all of the information they collected about the auction several months ago.

Penelope made dinner which was chicken parm, delicious. They sat around eating, the girls were chatting getting to know each other. When dinner was over Penelope’s phone rang and Brax saw it was her sister.

“Go ahead and get it babe, we can clean up.”

“You sure?” She asked hesitating clearly not wanting to be rude. Alana and Denali nodded.

“Of course.” Penelope left and the three of them cleaned the kitchen. When it was done Brax asked,

“Who calls first dips on the shower?” Alana immediately raised her hand and Braxton laughed,

“Okay let me replace the towels.” Brax went looking in the master room trying not to intrude. Penelope gave him a smile but otherwise ignored him. Braxton was a little concerned but went on with the evening like usual and so did Penelope.

They were working for several hours on leads and new information regarding the rogues when Denali suddenly asked out of nowhere.

“Doesn’t your mate want you in bed?” Braxton laughed,

“Oh she’s not in bed, she’s studying.”

“What?”

“Yeah she studies like three or four hours every night. She’s actually probably glad I’m out her instead of distracting her.” Braxton said not worried about it.

“That doesn’t bother you?”

“Why would it? If I was in there I would be more than happy to help her if I could. She wants to be a doctor and I fully support her and always will.” Denali nodded going back to work.

They finally retired for the night around midnight and laid down in bed cuddled into each other.

“LB can I ask you something?” Penelope asked when they got settled.

“Of course.” Braxton nestled into her marking spot and inhaled deeply. Goddess he missed her so much.

“I heard from Lili, I guess they found the people responsible for the auction. So I just don’t understand why you are here right not instead of there.” Braxton sighed heavily,

“Well while I think what Killian and Brad are doing is super important. This is more important to me. I tracked down these rogues over a year ago. These particular rogues are the ones who killed my first mate and cub.”

Brad pov

He was trying to get things wrapped up and headed back home to his pack when his phone started to continually vibrate in his pocket. Brad was meeting with the new recruits Brooks sent his was for the first time so he did a quick check to see who it was. Brad saw it was his father so he put his phone away.

Brad continued to tell the recruits that they will be leaving at 0600 when his phone rang again. He pulled it out again and hit decline. His father quickly texted him that it was an emergency. Sh.it. He had no one to turn it over to.

“Dismissed.” Brad quickly walked to Alpha Brooks office and knocked on the door. If it was an emergency he would need a secure line.

“Enter,” Alpha Brooks called him into her office.

“Hey Alpha, I need a secure line.” Brad asks and gets a raised eyebrow on return. “I’m sorry Alpha Brooks but my father has called me several times now.” Brooks gave Brad her personal cell. He has never had to request a secure line as he never truly needed it. Brad quickly dialed his fathers number and hit send. The phone rang once and then he immediately heard his father’s voice.

“Brad?”

“Yeah dad, I’m here.”

“Look it’s an emergency…”

“It’s okay it’s a secure line,” Brad explained so his father would speak plainly.

“We were able to replace the lab where they test on people. We need to get in there A.S.A.P. We have reason to believe they are going to kill the subjects soon.”

“We should be wheels up in on hour.”

“Why is that?” Brad asked.

“Seth met with the Beta. Seth also thinks the pack itself is weak. The structure however is very strong, which is why we need you. Killian thinks there’s a way you can get us in there.” Brad looked at Alpha Brooks,

“I should be able to get some papers from the council, but I have no idea if that will get us through the door. These guys are beyond corrupt.” Alpha Brooks nodded and started working on it.

“It’s better than nothing, when do you think you can get here?” His dad asked and he sighed,

“I don’t know. The second I arrived I made preparations to come back, but it takes time.” His father sighed in response knowing it wasn’t what he wanted to hear. “I’m sorry dad, we are planning on leaving tomorrow at 0600. That’s the best I can do.” There was a long pause,

“I understand. We will be ready to roll out as soon as you come in.”

“Hey dad, how’s Violet?”

“She’s doing good, Lili and Helen have taken them under her wing.” Brad smiled at hearing that.

“Well just let her know I’m busy getting everything together.”

“I will son. Love you.”

“Bye.” Brad looked to the Alpha.

“The papers will be ready by the time you leave tomorrow, whether they will get you through the compound or not remains to be see,” Alpha Brooks explained and Brad understood. It all honestly depended on how it was set up and how corrupt the guards were, and what they were told. If the guards were like Leroy he wouldn’t get through the gate. However, if the guards were simply like the men he was taking with him then he would get through the gate no problem.

“My weapons?” Brad asked and the Alpha nodded.

“They will be on the plane.”

..

The next morning he loaded up on the plane after checking in with Killian. Seth said there was no movement in the compound which was a good sign. Brad had spent the entire night on FaceTime with his mate making silver bullets. It was awkward at first, with his mask and gloves. Though she called him while he was making his bullets and he didn’t want to reject the call. The two of them somehow made it work, he talked and she used a mixture of signs as well as her notebook. Brad didn’t care, he was getting to know his mate and that was all that mattered to him. His wolf was purring the entire time.

Brad left Violet know that he was coming home briefly only to leave again. When she asked him why Brad told her that it was to get the guys from the auction. Violet was thoughtful but seemed to understand. She disconnected the call soon after this and Brad was upset that it seemed to trigger her.

Brad was on the plane with his new recruits. It was a short three hour plane ride.

“All right, we are headed to the Midnight Howlers Pack. We land in Chicago then drive, now first things first. Check your gear, right down to your ammo, make sure everything is matched to your liking.” Brad didn’t bother.

“Why do we have to? That’s what QM is for?”

“I don’t see him doing it.” Brad heard the muttering. Brad rolled his eyes,

“Have something to say to me?!” He roared.

“No sir!” They were belligerent. Brad decided to be generous.

“I don’t have to check my gear as I don’t get QM, I take care of it myself after they f****d up and gave me wooden bullets instead of silver ones. We are elite soldiers. Act like it.” The imbeciles shut their mouths and quickly and diligently checked their weapons after that.

The flight was a short one and soon was over. Brad was expecting to drive to the pack, but found Killian and several key members waiting for him at the airport when he tried to exit the plane. Brad was beyond shocked.

“Can we fly out from here?” Killian asked. Brad shrugged having no idea.

“Let me check with the pilot, wait where we going?”

“Little Rock Arkansas.” Brad went into the cockpit and talked to the pilot. It took him a little while, but convinced him that it was council business. The pilot said it would take an hour to refuel and schedule the flight plan with the flight deck. Then after a systems check they could leave. Brad returned and approached Killian.

“We should be wheels up in an hour.”
