The Fall Ball -
Chapter 8
(Alpha Jake)
As I walk away from Mac and Kat’s house. I think of Rose. She was such a small baby when they found her, only a few days old. She was a blessing for them. The two of them had been through so much before replaceing her.
It was so exciting to watch Rose grow up. As Alpha, I always made sure to keep an eye on our young. They are our future. I only want the right things for them. My pack is not large, but big enough to handle any threats that may come our way.
Rose was always a mystery. Where did she come from? And why was she placed on our lands? There was no trace of anyone placing her there. It was like she magically appeared in our forest.
As she grew, she became very outgoing. She loved being around others, and she always wanted to know what was going on and why. Full of so much curiosity and always full of questions.
She smelled like a wolf, kind of. It was faint and I think I’m the only one who has ever smelled her wolf. As an Alpha I have heightened senses.
I remember the day she turned fourteen. The day she should have gotten her wolf like any other pack member. I was excited to see her wolf, she is a mystery. I also knew it was the day that she would replace out she was adopted. I worried about her and her parents and what that would do to them.
She never shifted though. I could still smell her wolf, but she did not come forward. I believed it had something to do with her biological parents. So my men and I did some research and could replace nothing. Which isn’t surprising. At that time we had a lot of problems with vampires and witches.
After Rose showed up, the attacks stopped happening, no one knows why.
When she didn’t shift, I watched her change. She became shy and quiet and stayed to herself. The other kids ignored her and would pick on her. Ashlee was the most horrible, always pushing her and beating her. But Rose never retaliated, just let it be.
The parents of the children would walk away from Rose and just leave her be. They treated her like she was an outcast that didn’t belong.
A human in a wolf pack.
I would talk to Rose and see if she wanted me to help and put the others in their place. She would always tell me no, it’s okay, they just don’t like people who are different. She would smile at me and tell me not to worry about her.
I would let it go and just watch from afar.
As she got older, I watched to see if she had any wolf instincts. She did not. She seemed like a normal human, which is fine, we would still love and support her. But I know she has a wolf; I can smell her.
Nothing about Rose is simple. But she always seems to have a happy outlook on life. She is planning to travel to the human communities when she is old enough. As she has no wolf, that would be a great opportunity for her.
Today, Mac told me about Rose and her dream. I didn’t know what to think. Dreams serve a purpose, usually to protect you from something that is about to happen.
My dreams have protected me and my pack, so I have no doubt that something big is coming, and coming towards Rose.
I decided to eat with them tonight so that I could hear about Rose’s dream from her directly. I had some concerns for her, especially after coach Kamden spoke to me today about Rose and her new ability to run without any issues.
But I was not prepared for her to tell me that Selene the moon goddess had spoken to her. I have never known a person to dream of the moon goddess. It is so strange, but it must be something big.
As I continue to walk home to the pack house, I think about the history of werewolves. We were created for a purpose and that was to protect the goddess from her sister and the vampires that worked for her. That was many, many years ago, and we haven’t had many problems since.
I know deep down Rose has a wolf, but I cannot see why it would delay her shift. I am sure the goddess has a plan. And I will just have to wait and see.
I know that there is some information in the history books that talk about pack members that had no wolf. Normally it had to do with mixing of species, like werewolves with humans or vampires. But those did not have a wolf smell. As a result, they knew they did not have wolves and had a reason for that.
With Rose however we can’t know what is causing this as we don’t know her history. With the advances in technology today, I may be able to use a b***d sample and try to trace a relative for her.
A few years ago all packs started to use the same database to help keep track of all the people in the kingdom. It made it easier to track family b***d lines as well as know who came from what pack.
If Rose’s parents were from a pack in the kingdom we should be able to locate them or a distant relative. But if her parents and their family were rogue wolves they would be more difficult to track down and replace.
I think I will have Rose come in tomorrow so I can talk to her about this, and see how she feels about locating her biological family. If she is okay with it I want to get started on it before I leave for the palace.
In the meantime I think I will review some of the history books and notes from other packs in regards to not having a wolf. As well as try to get any information regarding dreams with the moon goddess. Most don’t believe in dreams and their purpose, but some do, and if any dream with the goddess has happened before, im sure it is relevant enough to document.
I think I may refresh my memories of the goddess and her sister to see if I can come up with anything that is linked to Rose’s dream.
I wonder what the goddess has in store for Rose.
