The Headmaster Alpha’s Mate Chapter 67

On the edge of the forest, lit up by the light of the silvery moon, Caroline lay bundled up in a heep on the ground. The screams and howls were replaced by the sobs that shudded through her body. Tears streamed down her pale face, as she curled up in a ball of pain.

“What is happening?” Chloe linked with Zander, her heart breaking for the traumatised woman before her.

“I am unsure, she is not responding even over mind link.” Zander responded.

“Is it Duncan? Has he been killed or something?” Chloe continued to ask.

Zander shook his head in response, for all he could not link with Duncan anymore, he did not smell death in the air, nor did he feel the loss of a pack member.

Chloe looked around at the gathering pack members. At the edge of the forest stood Ellie, tears streaming down her face, holding tight onto her young brother Tom. It was clear to both Zaner and Chloe that the traumatised Caroline was in no state to speak about what had happened.

“I will go to Caroline Chloe. Sometimes, when a werewolf is in this much pain they lash out, and I do not want to risk you being hurt.” Zander sighed over the mind link. It was true, when in immense pain or grief, the wolf would partially take over, not enough to shift, but enough to protect the human part of them, and the term wounded animal would best describe how they could react during trauma, and although his princess was powerful, the thought of her being in danger chilled him to the bone.

“I will go and speak with Ellie. Maybe we should get Caroline to the hospital, then talk with her once she is a little calmer.” Chloe linked with Zander, who nodded in response.

As Chloe walked towards Ellie, Ethan ran over, taking the girl into his arms, as silent tears streamed down her face. Zander gently approached Caroline, he crouched down in a non-threatening manner, as she recoiled from him. Andrew Keto arrived standing behind his Alpha, as Caroline stopped sobbing, the look in her eyes becoming vacant.

“Alpha, she is turning catatonic, I need to get her to the hospital. Let me give her a sedative here so we can move her safely.” Anrew stated.

Chloe carefully approached Ellie, not knowing if the pain her mother was experiencing would affect her in the same way.

“Ellie, do you know what has happened?” Chloe softly asked.

Ellie continued to look at her mother, and held her young brother closer to her chest as Ethan remained with his arms around both of them.

“Ellie, please, I know this is extremely difficult but we need to know what has happened, so we can help you and your mum.” Chloe continued.

“Luna, please let’s not discuss this in front of Tom.” Ellie linked with Chloe, her eyes never leaving the slumped body of Caroline.

Chloe gave a brief nod in her direction, then turned her attention to Ethan.

“Ethan, would you take Tom to the pack house please, he can sit in the Beta’s office, and would you stay to look after him for Ellie?” Chloe asked in what she thought was a gentle voice, but her Luna power forced its self upon Ethan without Chloe even realising.

“Yes Luna.” Ethan immediately responded, baring his neck. Chloe shut her eyes momentarily, hoping she could learn how to control the power her voice held even in difficult situations.

“Sorry Ethan, I did not mean to use the Luna tone.” Chloe quickly appologised over mind link. Ethan looked up and gave his friend a small smile, understanding she had yet to learn how to control her power.

Jerry appeared out of the tree’s the wolf panting, from running around the pack lands.

“Zander, Chloe, I tracked Duncan to the border, then he disappeared. I think he has a small injury from the faint smell of b***d but nothing life threatening,” Josh informed them.

“Where is Nicki?” Chloe asked, concerned about her best friend.

“When the howl went up, I got her and Cheryl to the safe room, just in case we were under attack.”

Chloe nodded, then with a soft smile she reached out to Tom.

“Hey Tom, Dr Keto is going to take really good care of your Mum, and you will be able to visit her soon, but for now, can you go with Ethan for me, to sit in the Beta’s office so that we can get you warm. Beta Robin and Lacey have the best hot chocolate.” Chloe smiled, as Tom looked up at Ellie, and she smiled down at him, giving him a nod. Lacey walked over to Ethan and Tom and gently ushered them away. The small boy then stopped and looked towards Ellie.

“Did I kill Dad? I didn’t mean to, I was just scared for you and Mum.” Tom appologised.

“No Tom, you didn’t kill your dad, Alpha Josh has been to check that he is okay.” Chloe immediately answered, as Lacey locked eyes with her, and gave a nod, before gently placing her arm around Tom and walking up to the pack house as Ethan followed.

“Let’s go to my office Ellie.” Chloe said, reaching out with her arms, as the teenager nodded and accepted the warm embrace of her Luna.

Zander followed Dr Keto to the hospital. Waiting outside the hospital room, Robin and Josh followed him.

“Do you think this was a domestic incident?” Robin asked.

“I am not sure what the hell has happened. I have never known Duncan be violent, but what Tom said is concerning.” Zander pondered running through all the different possibilities in his mind.

“Well, that explains the small injury if young Tom attacked his father.” Josh agreed.

“The question is why? I can no longer link to Duncan, maybe he has his block up, but I tried to force the link and still nothing.” Zander furrowed his brows.

It did not make any sense. If he had rejected the pack, the whole pack would have felt the bond break, but they had not, it was like he just disappeared into thin air.

“Maybe he is out of range,” Josh pondered.

“No way, Duncan cannot run that fast.” Robin stated.

The door to the hospital room opened, and Dr Keto emerged, shaking his head slightly.

“Alpha’s, Beta, I have Caroline heavily sedated,. Whatever has happened, she is in complete shock and traumatised. I really do not want her to be questioned yet, her mind and body needs time to recover first.” Andrew informed them.

Zander let out a frustrated growl, they really needed answers, but he understood Caroline needed time most of all, yet time was something they really did not have.

“I will take her off the sedation tomorrow morning, Alpha, that is the best I can do for now.” Dr Keto said, knowing his Alpha wanted to understand what was happening. However, in this hospital, nobody could command him to do anything that would negatively affect his patients, including the Alpha King.

“Maybe my mother-in-law could come sit with her, she has been doing amazing things with the guys from my pack who have suffered abuse.” Josh said.

“Yes, good call, Cheryl can sit with her. Maybe Caroline will feel more relaxed to talk with her rather than the ranking wolves of the pack.” Zander agreed.

“Yes, I think that is a good idea, and I have heard many good things about Luna Nicki’s mother. It will be nice to finally meet her.” Dr Keto smiled.

Chloe sat beside Ellie as she wiped away her tears with the back of her hand.

“Luna”, Ellie began.

Chloe smiled warmly at her, she did not want to interrupt, but she needed Ellie to speak with her as a friend, not as her Luna or Queen.

“Ellie, it is just me and you. Remember, I am just Chloe.”

Ellie nodded her head, then looked up at Chloe.

“Chloe, I am sorry, what I am going to say may hurt you.” Ellie sighed, she did not want any retributions to come to her mother, yet she felt torn about what she had found out that night.

Chloe nodded her head, and took a deep breath, before offering a reassuring smile.

“D…did you know that before my parents found each other, my mother, well she…..” Ellie began, unable to get the last words of her sentence out of her mouth.

“Ellie, if you are going to say what I think you are, yes I know. Zander told me when we first found each other, it was a very long time ago, and before your mum met your dad.” Chloe gently reassured Ellie.

Ellie nodded, at least she did not have to drop that bomb shell on Chloe.

“Well, tonight, I heard my dad on the phone to someone. I do not know who he was talking to, and I really did not want to eaves drop, but the tone of his voice made my wolf anxious, so I hid behind the door to listen.” Ellie began.

Chloe nodded, passing Ellie a tissue to wipe her eyes.

“Dad was telling the person at the other end, that you were a royal wolf, that he had only wanted revenge on our Alpha, and he needed out of the agreement, as he did not want to go against the royal b***d line. He kept shouting that the deal was off.” Ellie continued.

“I do not know what was said, but it angered my father, and he began to run around the cottage, shouting at Tom and I to pack a bag that we were leaving the pack immediately. My mum stood and asked what was going on. Dad got even more angry, telling her it was all her fault, that he was leaving, and taking us kids with him. He said some horrible things, that if she had shut her leg’s before she had met him, then our lives would not be in danger. That the only reason he had given information to Amanda Bines at the council was because he wanted Zander to pay for f*****g his w***e mate. But now that you are a royal, we had to hide, because he could no longer be a traitor, not to the crown, and once the Alpah replaces out he has been giving information to the council for years in a bid to have him removed from the pack as revenge, he would be killed. Now that he could no longer be a traitor because of you , the council would also kill him and us. My mother shouted at him, she was so angry that he had done this over something that had happened so long ago, and she called him a hypocrite as he himself had engaged in s****l relations before he met her. Dad then ran out of the house, we all followed, as he began to reject my mum. Tom thought he was physically hurting mum, and so he shifted for the first time, and his young wolf bit down on dad’s arm. Mum fell to the floor through the pain of the rejection, then looking at him, she told him he had made a choice to put the whole of the pack at risk, including his own family, and she accepted the rejection, letting out a howl of pain, as Dad ran into the tree’s, he turned back to us and said he never had truly accepted the Cresent Moon as his pack, and he ran off disappearing out of sight, that is when you and the Alpha arrived.”

Chloe passed Ellie some water, as the young girl sobbed. She did not know who this Amanda Bines was, but she needed to tell her mate immediately so that she could warn Faith and Luke.

“Ellie, please do not be afraid, you, your brother and your mum are safe with us. We will never blame you for the actions of your father. I need to go talk to Zander, but trust me, you are all safe.” Chloe tried to reassure the girl.

“What about Dad? I know what he has done is wrong, but Chloe, I still love him, he is my father.” Ellie sobbed.

“Honestly, Ellie, I do not know, what he did for years was despicable, he wanted revenge and put everyone in danger because of his jealousy. Try not to dwell on it too much, I will speak with Zander. I will have Beta Lacey bring Tom in, and would you like Ethan to sit with you?” Chloe kindly asked.

“Yes please, and Chloe, thank you.” Ellie sobbed out once more.
