~Third person POV~

Mateo walked up to Phoenix and frowned as he realized she still wasn’t awake.

“Phoenix.” Mateo said walking towards her.The others watched curiously as she didn’t even stir.Mateo looked at Alex who was slowly beginning to panic. He took a step forward only for Kim to grab his arm and pull him back towards her.He bit his lip from saying something he knew he’d regret later and watched Mateo warily as he gently shook Phoenix begging her to wake up.

“She’s not dead-she’s weak.” Peter said as Mateo’s eyes filled with tears.

“What? How do you know?” Alex asked, frowning.

“I can feel it.” He answered with a shrug.Alex and Mateo shared a look of confusion but didn’t push the topic anymore.

“We need to go.” Kim said silently hating herself for feeling jealous of what Alex and Phoenix had.She liked Phoenix and wished that they had met under better circumstances but at the same time envied her.She was free to love whoever she pleased and wasn’t in danger of having to marry somebody she didn’t love. She watched silently as Mateo gently kissed the top of her head and picked her up bridal style. The betrayal of Jocelyn was still fresh in her mind and she couldn’t help but feel responsible. She shouldn’t have invited herself or the others when it was clear Phoenix didn’t want them going with her, she should’ve paid more attention to Jocelyn-she should’ve known something was wrong with her, and most of all she shouldn’t have kissed Phoenix’s mate whether she knew he was mated or not.She continued to silently beat herself up for her continuous stupidity and by the time she broke out of her thoughts they had already made it back to the horses and everybody was staring at her expectantly, considering she was just standing there. She smiled sheepishly before mounting her horse. She knew her and her friends were the odd ones out-but mostly her, everybody here loved Phoenix and she was just the homewrecking wolf that show’d up and put her lips where they weren’t supposed to be and then to add on to that she forced herself on this mission knowing nobody wanted her here. She noticed how Mateo had purposely given Phoenix to Alex but she didn’t say anything-he loved her and it was more than obvious but she’d be damned if she didn’t at least try.

“Where are we going to go?We lost the book and Phoenix is the only one who read further than us.” Kenzie asked, asking the question on everybody’s minds.Unconsciously everybody turned to look at Phoenix as if waiting for her to mumble the answers in her sleep. It wasn’t like when they first came and she was tired-she was drained, and her body needed to rest.

“I can help.If you’ll let me.” Peter said breaking through the silence.

“How?” Luca asked skeptically.Kim stared at him wide eyed considering that was the first time she’d ever heard him spoke.Luca turned in her direction and she immediately looked away.

“I’m Peter Pan. I know everything about this place and everybody.” Peter said bringing his horse to a full stop. The others looked at each other silently debating whether or not to trust him.

“Phoenix trusted him.” Mateo said breaking through the silence and that was the end of it.They turned their attention back to Peter before taking turns and explaining everything to him.He looked between all of the wide eyed before letting his eyes rest on Phoenix.

“She’s the moon goddess granddaughter?” He asked slowly.

“Yes, why?” Kenzie asked, staring at him cautiously.

“Who’s her mate?” He asked ignoring Kenzie.Kenzie rolled her eyes and pointed at Mateo and hesitated for a second on Alex before pointing at him too.

“I’m sorry I kissed her.” Peter said looking up at Mateo.Mateo frowned in confusion before nodding his head, letting him know it was okay.

“It sounds to me like you’re looking for the doctor.” Peter said clicking his tongue and making the horse go.The other followed behind him again as they waited for him to explain.

“I’ll bite who’s the doctor?” Kenzie asked when nobody said anything.

“The Doctor is mostly a legend, he’s somebody that you go to when you have a problem-a powerful one that a regular magic doctor can’t fix.He used to make himself visible and easy to replace to any and everybody but after a patient of his turned on him he disappeared. Now he only helps those who he feels needs it-those who can pass his test, the penalty for failing is death.” Peter said, making a turn.

“I’m sorry death?” Kenzie asked perking up and looking around to make sure the others heard what she did.

“What are the tests?” Alex asked, speaking up for the first time.

“Nobody knows they always change.” Peter mumbeled.

“So we don’t know anything other than the fact that he’s a he?” Kenzie said, rolling her eyes.

“Yup.” Peter said popping the P.The rest of the ride was silent as they went deeper into the forest.

“Where are we going?” Alex asked, moving a branch from his face.

“The last time I got news of him he was seen around here.” Peter answered looking around.Nobody said anything else knowing Peter was beginning to lose his patience with all the questions being fired at him.Peter turned his head in a direction and kicked the horse making it run off.The others stared at his quickly retreating back wide eyed and kicked their horses making them run after him. They came to a stop in front of a cottage and Peter smirked as he dismounted the horse. He walked up to the door and nodded before taking a few step back. The door opened and an old man holding a cane stepped outside. He looked like a short, hunched over version of Dumbledore from Harry Potter.

“What?” He asked, looking the group over.

“My friends here need your help.” Peter said, tucking his hands in his pockets and gesturing his head towards the group.

“I didn’t know the great Peter Pan had friends.” The man said looking over Peter’s shoulder at the group. His eyes fell on Phoenix and everybody noticed how his eyes brightened slightly.

“You know how this goes, right?” The man asked but it was more of a statement than a question.Peter nodded his head and the man let his eyes go back to Peter.

“Yes you ask a question and we answer it.” Kenzie said.

“I ask the question and then I pick somebody to answer it.” The man said with a mischievous smirk.

“Okay what’s the question?” Kim asked as her and the other climbed off of their horses. She noticed how Alex took his time, making sure that Phoenix wouldn’t fall and she felt her chest tighten. She looked back over at the man to see him looking between her and Alex.

“I can be crushed to pieces but only if I am given away first, I can be clogged and attacked but that’s usually my own doing. No matter how many problems I have, you wouldn’t dare let me go. What am I?” He asked smirking and keeping his eyes on Kim.Everybody turned to face her and opened their mouths to try and help only for the man to hold his hand up, taking their voices away.Kim opened her mouth but nothing would come out.

“I choose her.” Everybody frowned as they turned in the direction he was pointing in.

‘He has got to be kidding me.’ Peter thought, rolling his eyes.

“Why not her?” The man frowned in genuine confusion.

‘Does she look awake?’ Peter asked, squinting his eyes in annoyance.

“Why isn’t she awake?” He asked, looking between Phoenix and Peter.

‘She drained herself.Just pick somebody else and while you’re at it can we get an easier question?’ Peter asked, batting his eyelashes.

“Well that just won’t do.” The man mumbled taking a step towards Phoenix. The boys created a barricade around her and the man rolled his eyes in annoyance before lifting his hand again and bringing them to their knees. Before anybody else could try and step in he brought them down to their knees too.He walked up to Phoenix and pressed two fingers on her forehead. She sat up with a gasp and looked around in confusion. Her eyes landed on the old man and she dismounted the horse and approached him cautiously.

“Are you okay?” She asked trying to figure out who he was.The man was taken back by her kindness but managed to nod in answer. He lifted his hand bringing the others back to their feet and giving them their voice back.

“Fill her in.” He mumbled going back to his original spot in front of his house.Mateo and Alex ran up to Phoenix and threw their arms around her.Kim couldn’t fight the smile that made its way to her face but at the same time couldn’t fight the tears that were quickly filling her eyes. She turned her back to them and locked eyes with the old man who was watching her curiously. She quickly wiped away the stray tear and took a deep breath.

“When we get out of here we’re going home.” Kim said without turning to face her friends. They could sense her sadness and knew not to pry.

“But what about-”

“He’s happy.” Kim interrupted. They dropped the matter and Kim took a deep breath.

“Okay what’s the riddle?” Phoenix asked as her and the others joined. The man repeated the riddle keeping his eyes on Kim.Phoenix turned to look at Kim with a frown and it hit her.

“You’re a heart.” Phoenix said softly. She’d tried to give Alex and Kim their own time and yet it seemed to bit her in the ass when they both decided to tag along and then on top of that they hardly talked more just stayed in each others presence and it was clear Kim was hurting.Kim turned to look away as her tears threatened to fall again.Everybody held their breaths in anticipation while the man stood their not giving anything away.He smiled and walked back inside of his house before closing the door behind him.He came outside again and everybody stared at him wide eyed.Instead of a helpless old man he was now a man in his 40′s wearing a lab coat.He stood straight up and his hair was short, brown, and curly on top of his head. His eyes were a breathtaking crystal blue and all in all he was drop dead handsome. He flashed a smile showing off his pearly whites and crossed his arms over his chest making his muscles flex.

“What can I do for you?” He asked keeping his eyes on Phoenix.Phoenix took a deep breath before explaining everything to him.He kept his eyes on hers as she talked making sure to keep his questions until the end.He suspected he was related to the moon goddess from the immense power coming off of her.He pushed his house door open gesturing for everybody to go inside. The inside of his house looked like any cabin set up with a fireplace the only difference being the medical stuff sitting on a table in a corner of the room.

“Make yourself at home it’s going to take a while before it’s ready.” He said before walking away.Everybody found a seat and Phoenix let her mind run as she thought of everything that had happened.

“How the bloody hell are we meant to get back without the book?” Hades asked. It was a question that was sitting in everybody’s minds but nobody wanted to say it out loud for the fear of what it meant.

“We’ll figure something out.” Phoenix said chewing her bottom lip nervously.
