The Last Royal Luna -
(Book 2) – Chapter 39
Once everyone had either made it to the shelter or the house, they have chosen we went to our cabin to wait. We left a few windows slightly open so we would be able to scent them before they made it upon us in case we didn’t hear them. This was the part I hated the most and I was letting it be known when I couldn’t just lay down with the guys. I was pacing and I knew it was getting on Asher and Edgars nerves. They were the eldest of the group and I liked to call them my old farts. They got picky about things and got irritated when I acted immature.
“Ryder, I need you to sit down before I sit on you!” Asher seethed at me. I just grinned as big as I could as I did another lap around the room.
“Ignore the grouch. How about you explain why you put Leif and Charles together in the Alpha suite?” Blake whispered with a small smile. I went and sat down beside him letting him rub my back with my head on his shoulder. He helped me calm down by getting me to focus on things I could control. Blake was the smart one of our group and my new favorite of the day.
“Charles mentioned that they wanted to double cross or take out the Alpha so I figure they may do both tonight. This gives the pack house extra security and more surprises to thrown the vamps off course. I also have Melissa and Alistair using a hidden spell while they are in the middle of the pack lands. She will be able to sense any witches and get clear shots at them with spells or curses to help protect us. I would like at least one witch or vampire alive so we can question them so if you guys get that chance let me know. I let the others know about that as well so we shall see.” I shrugged like it was no big deal to have planned this battle in a few hours.
“Hold crap, Baby! That is smart. I am jealous I didn’t even think of that!” Kane admitted. He sat on the other side of me and kissed my neck.
“Quit that. I am having a hard time keeping my hands to myself right now and that does not help. I know I promised a month break after my heat but I lied.” They all laughed at me before agreeing that they would not have made it a month without being about to
touch me.
We just sat in silence for a bit before I was able to smell a hint of death. I pushed Blue to the front so I could use her hearing and I heard light footsteps coming onto the pack lands. I looked at my guys and they hadn’t noticed yet so I elbowed Blake and Kane so they would see my nod. They looked around in the dark trying to catch a scent or sound but when they looked back at me they looked puzzled. It must be that my senses are stronger than theirs.
‘They are here. I can hear them getting closer. They must still be a bit too far if you can’t hear them.’ I linked them. I didn’t want to chance us being wrong and them being right outside. This was all about the surprise factor so we could cut down the fighting time.
‘s**t. Ok. Keep us informed. I can’t believe how strong you have gotten!’ Asher praised me and I could feel Blue eating that s**t up.
I did a group link with Alistair, Leif, my guys, a couple warriors who I told ahead of time they would be the point of contact with me linking them. I let them all know that the vampires were closing in. Right before I closed the link I could smell a rotten earth smell. It was like an apple that had sat out for months in the sun rotting to the core before tossing it into a pile of fertilizer. It was horrible. I knew it was witches, so I let them know. I had no idea how many. We would have to rely on Melissa for that.
It wasn’t long before the guys noticed the smell and heard the steps. They stopped outside our windows waiting for something. I was starting to get antsy so Edgar pulled me back into him wrapping his arm around my stomach. It helped stop me from trying to climb out the window and kick some dead a*s by myself.
‘They are at our windows. When one or two get in the room with us we will be taking action. Watch your backs and let’s do this! If you need help link us all. I have connected us for the time being even if we aren’t in your pack.’ I linked the group again while focusing on breathing like I was asleep. Only a few minutes more.
One vampire in, I squeezed Edgar’s hand letting him know to let me go in a minute. Two vampires in and I charge toward them. Both of their faces at stuck in the same look of shock. I ripped out one of their hearts while one of my mates take out the other. I don’t wait for them to try to stop and protect me. I jump out the open window into a crouch position scanning the area for more vampires and I saw two who looked to be the scouts. I ran at them, tackling them before they could yell for help. One punched me in the throat as I was trying to wrestle the others arms away from their chest so I could plunge my hand inside and rip their dead heart out. I fell off trying to clear my eyes from the tears. One of them got a hold of my shoulders while the other was getting closer to biting my neck.
“Not today you useless sacks of road kill!” I head butted the one behind me before reaching forward and ripping out one of the other ones fangs.
He wailed in pain as he tried to get away. I stayed on him and finally was able to grab the stake I had in my side pocket and stab him in the heart. I turned to crawl back toward the other one but he was already headless with his head rolling away from Knox. I smiled at him but he just scoffed. I knew I was going to get a lecture later.
“I know I should of waited but I felt this need to take some out on my own.” He shook his head and grabbed my hand pulling me toward the middle of the houses.
‘Alistair how many witches?’ I said as I pulled Knox to a stopping point by the side of a house. I saw a vampire lurking near the next house. I knew the element of surprise was gone but I didn’t want to be that out in the open.
‘There were two. Melissa took out one of them. This other one seems older and stronger. Melissa thinks she has done several sacrifices recently to add to her power.’ Well s**t.
‘Give me a minute and I will head that way so we can clear a path for Melissa to get closer to her. Knox will help us.’ Alistair agreed and left the channel open as we worked our way there.
