The Lunas Second Chance Mate
(Book 2) Chapter 4

Olivera

A pack of rogues.

It's not exactly a normal status of an Alpha, but I wasn't really looking for this position, it found me instead. I was the largest rogue in these woods, throwing my weight around in territory fights, in mating fights for she-wolves looking for a good time, but eventually it became clear there needed to be a change around here.

The elders are the top wolves of all the clans, like peace keepers, and since the little Alexander clan family drama went down, the elders have been working hard to crack down on rogues before we all turn Lycan. They can't stand to fight us when we are Lycan. Then everyone would see how pathetic and weak they are in comparison.

Besides the ego trip the elders have been on, they have also decided to kill any rogue in their path, hunting them down like rabbits. It took a small raid, a deadly encounter, for the elders to kill a few innocent rogues looking for a pack to join but were slaughtered. I couldn't stand by to be the biggest rogue in the woods after that. I had to be the rogue that made the elders lose sleep at night.

So, I formulated a pack. It's not a very conventional pack, but it keeps us from shifting Lycan and that's all I need to hunt the ones in charge of this powershift between those who run free, unbound by authority, or those who feel the only safety they require is that of a world without rogues, without rebels.

I'm just a rebel that doesn't have the patience anymore.

"Alpha," one of my guards grumbles, a stocky man with a gruff look and an even harsher voice like he's chewed gravel all night. "The girl Clark girl wants to speak to you."

"I already told you to get rid of her. She's not welcome here. Not after being close to the Alexanders and that pathetic family of Alpha wannabes. If she has anything to sell, she can sell it elsewhere. I am not buying." I turn over my hands, pale but smudged in black soot and old scars. "If she comes back a third time, she's dead."

"I'll let her know," he says with a firm head nod.

Sure enough, he doesn't get a chance to pass on the message. The doors to my office are thrown open, a petite pain in my a*s stomping her way into my packhouse like she has some kind of power here. I immediately jump over my desk, standing over her so she feels my height, senses my powerful wolf, and feels the threat looming in the small space between us.

"You," I snarl.

Her straight, ragged hair is tucked behind her ear, but she does try to hide behind it like a curtain, staring at the ground while she trembles. She is scared, I can taste it around her.

"What authority do you have to barge into my packhouse and let yourself into my office?" I feel my fists clinch, something that she obviously notices. She trembles harder. "You think you being a princess once upon a time gives you the right to go wherever you want? I should kill you!"

"I heard you're going after the elders," she hums. "I wanted to know if that meant the Alpha and Luna Alexander, too?"

I c**k my brow, curiously watching this pup think she's strong or smart. She is neither and it's amusing to me that she would ever think otherwise. "Why would I tell you my plans, rejected Luna?"

She eyes me once, quickly, her eyes darting back down as it takes her a minute to assess my size, my muscles, and my daring need to kill anything that annoys me. "You should. I know for a fact they have rogues in their dungeon under the palace. Rogues that don't deserve to be there."

I wave off her claim, uncaring even if it were true. "What? A handful? Five or six? I am preparing a war against elders; I am not out here to liberate every rogue that has ever lived. That isn't my job, and you're just mad you were scorned and let loose from the pack. You are worthless here, like you were worthless there, and I suggest you leave before one of my rogues replaces your scent and hunts you down."

She shudders again, turning to leave, something about her posture relaxing as she stops right before leaving my office for good. "What if I told you, there is a wolf that could help you fight the elders and win?"

My wolf purrs in interest. "How so?"

"She's a blood healer, a perfect match for any wound by just injecting her blood into your body. She can heal you in battle, you and your army of rogues."

I snarl a laugh. "I heard the stories and the gossip, Luna reject. I don't doubt that it isn't a useful power but by your smell, I know what clan you come from, even before trying to rope in an Alexander clan mutt to mate with. You are the same thing as this other wolf you speak of, so why not I take you and just leave it at that?"

"Because she's been touched by the moon goddess. She was sent back down, and from I've heard, she is cursed. She was reborn with the intent to have a different mate, even changing her appearance, and an immortal healer, that's a good deal." Stroking my sharp jaw, I wonder what this bitch is really going for tonight. "What do you get out of this? Being a rat just to be a rat? We kill rats around here, rejected Luna, so answer wisely. Why do you want me to have this information?" "I hate the royals. I hate the elders. If I watch them fall by your pack, that is good enough revenge for me. I won't even get in your way."

I step back up to the little wolf, snarling a reply, "Good. Because if you do, you're dead. Now write down everything you know about this cursed wolf and maybe I'll look into bringing in the possibility of going after your old pack." "Thank you, Olivera."

"Alpha," I snap in correction. "You are still a rat to me."

"Thank you, Alpha."
