The Lycan Series -
Bullied By The Lycan King Chapter 49
Axel's
POV
The heavy sounds of boots marching toward my office pulled my wolf to alert. Something was happening but I remained composed waiting for them to get to me.
The door finally burst open and Greg motioned to the guards with him to remain outside. Then he walked closer to my desk.
"Axel, we have a problem," he said and from the look of disarray on his features, I immediately understood that this was probably greater than he was making it seem. My heart rate increased and I got off my seat at once. I was aware that my aunt Emily and Violet had left the house for shopping and to visit Dawn's tomb...
"Did something happen to Violet?" I growled but he shook his head firmly.
"Hilda's convoy got attacked and she is nowhere to be found." Greg's voice was heavy like each word he pronounced was weighing more than it should.
And the weight of it transferred to my soul. Just like coordinated work, the weight triggered my anger and soon I was shaking with rage.
"Who attacked her and where did this happen?" I growled as I started marching out of the office at once.
"A couple of miles from Fergus's pack and we suspect he has a hand in this," Greg said as he hurried behind me.
"Call back my aunt and Violet now. Then call the guards and follow me. I am going to get her back!" I hissed as I got to the SUV parked in front of the house. I pulled it open and my eyes fell on the driver waiting for instructions. "Get out, I will drive myself," I growled. The man quickly scurried away and I headed for the driver's seat.
Just as I stepped in, Greg stopped me. "My King, what are you doing?"
"What does it look like I am doing?" I snarled. "I am going to get Hilda myself! And Fergus should prepare to burn!"
"Axel, we will replace her but we need to plan everything carefully before blindly jumping into it," Greg insisted and I felt an anger I had never felt before move inside of me.
"Each second we waste out here is time for them to torture her. No, I will not stand here and wait for you to finish planning. Nobody takes my family and expects to live!" I growled, pulling the car's door shut. Before I could pull the car into drive, Greg jumped into the car and I didn't even bother looking at him.
He made the calls I had asked him to make and not long after, about twenty vehicles started trailing behind us.
But I didn't care about all of those. I was concerned with Hilda and what she could be going through. After being captured and tortured myself, I never wanted anyone who came close to being family to me to face it.
Hilda was more than just a member of my pack or the head of staff in the mansion. Her mother, Sara, had sacrificed her life for my family. She was too kind to us and when she died my father took her youngest child, Hilda and she grew up with us. When the revolution happened the commotion that followed left everyone with scars and I had promised myself that I would never let any of those I considered as a family to others go through those pains again.
As I drove down to the location the ambush happened, my fingers turned white from clenching too tightly to the steering wheel and my heart constantly slammed in my chest as I tried not to think about the condition she was in. "Don't worry Axel. Hilda is a strong girl. She can't protect herself," Greg said but I knew he was only trying to make me feel better. No one could protect themselves from captors.
No matter how strong she was, there was a limit to the number of people she could fight off before exhaustion took the better of her and that was when things would only begin to get a lot worse.
Just thinking about it made me shudder in rage.
I pressed my foot hard on the acceleration and the car flew faster as my only aim became to get to the scene faster than lightning.
The sights of my SUV abandoned in the middle of the road, immediately signaled to me that we were there.
Without waiting for the vehicle to come to a complete stop, I jumped out and headed to the vehicle that she was in with my heart in my chest.
True to Greg's report the vehicle was empty. Only her scent remained to tell the story.
"Damn it!" I cursed flinging the door shut. "Greg!" I yelled and he appeared before me at once.
"Get the men, we walk from here!" I roared, my eyes turning red with anger.
Greg got the men ready and we ditched the cars. Fergus's pack wasn't far anymore, I wanted him to feel our approach without the cover of the vehicles.
As we got to the gates, his guards started shaking with fear as they pulled it open for us.
I was ahead of the group and I was burning with so much anger that anyone standing a close distance to me felt the heat.
His pack house looked empty, safe for the trembling guards at the gates. Aside from the main house, there was a shabby little house at the side which I hoped was not his slave quarters because it wasn't even fit for animals. "My King," his annoying voice filled the air as he appeared at the entrance of the pack house.
My eyes darkened and I only wanted to tear through his skin. I was already moving towards him menacingly when Greg stopped me.
"We are not sure he has her yet. An open attack will not be looked upon kindly by the rest of the council board," he whispered harshly to me and I pushed his hands off my shoulder.
"I don't care what the council thinks is kind or not!" I roared, resuming my initial destination.
For someone who was never brave, Fergus didn't flinch. He only stood there with his fingers joined in front of me, watching me with defiance in his eyes.
"Where is she?" I growled at his face.
His straight face cracked into a smile and he took a step back. In seconds, a thousand soldiers with an emblem I didn't recognize filled up the area, covering him from my reach.
"She is safe and she will be transported back to you as soon as you get your feet off my lands," Fergus called from between the soldiers.
"Your lands? Fergus, have you lost your mind?" I roared, my vision darkening with my anger.
He let out an evil chuckle and the sound came out hollow and dark.
"I have been living under your bondage for too long, boy king. It is time I served a better and smarter King!"
His words were like fuel to the flame already burning in my beast. Without thinking, I roared in anger and my claws emerged from my fingers and I slashed through the two of the soldiers in front of me.
As soon as I attacked, my men also joined in. We were outnumbered two to ten but I didn't care. My blood lust had been awakening and I wasn't going to stop until I got to Fergus.
"Fergus! Come out, you bloody coward!" I roared.
I jumped into the air and the sounds of popping bones filled everyone's ears as I transformed into my wolf and cut the lives of even more of his men.
I created a path with my rage and I saw him running back inside. My eyes narrowed and I went in after him, tearing and slashing anyone who dared stand in my way.
I turned back into my human form as I got inside the building. Just like the courtyard outside, there was not a single soul.
"Fergus!" I roared but only the echoes of my voice sang back to me.
I saw a set of stairs ahead of me and I was about to start heading to it when I felt strong arms on my shoulder, I turned in the bid to slice through the person but my nose picked up the familiar scent a second before I cut him "It's a trap, Axel. We need to get out of here!" Greg said, his body covered with blood I knew didn't belong to him.
"He is keeping her somewhere here, I am not leaving without her," I hissed and shrugged his hands away
"He is not! I sent out a scout and he has searched everywhere. Hilda isn't here, we need to leave-"
"And then what? Just forget about her?" I retorted in irritation. There was no way I was going to abandon her.
"No, let's hope he sends her back and if he doesn't we will prepare more guards and return for her. Fergus has sworn allegiance to the new Lycan. We can't stop him now."
