The Lycan Series -
Bullied By The Lycan King Chapter 71
Axel's POV
I looked down the cliff hoping to see a glimpse of Willow but there was absolutely no sign of her. My wolf was enraged. This type of death was not right for her.
She deserved to be killed by mutilation at least and I was determined to make it a befitting one.
I tightened my fists and turned away from the cliff aiming to go down the bottom to replace her. But I didn't make it far as my path was blocked by Greg and some of my men.
"Axel!" Greg exclaimed as soon as he saw me. He ran up to where I was and wrapped his arms around me. "Oh, may the goddess be praised, I thought they got you..." he whispered
I wanted to push him away as I was still very much interested in chasing after Willow, even if her corpse was all that was left but I couldn't. This was Greg, I couldn't be cold to him even if I wanted to. Gently, I unwrapped his arms from my shoulders and looked into his troubled eyes.
"I need to go down that cliff and verify if Willow is dead or not," I growled and made to leave but this time, Greg's strong arms held me back.
There was a line of confusion on his face as he looked at me, "What do- what are you talking about?" he asked, moving his eyes from the cliff and back to my face.
"There is no way anyone would have survived that fall. Not even you..."
I nodded calmly at his protest and peeled off his arms from my wrist. "You are right, but I will sleep better, knowing that her body was burnt in a pile of flame," I said and resumed walking
I heard him give some instructions to the guards he had come with, but I paid him no attention, I continued waking but it wasn't long before I heard his boots fall in line with me. "You should go check on our people and make sure that they are fine," I said without looking at him.
He let out a grunt. "I met Nathan, as soon as I got here. You are, my only concern now and I would die first before I leave you alone. Let's go," he said, his voice deep with emotion.
I could understand how he felt, especially with how close I had come to dying at the hands of my enemies, but this had to be done.
Without commenting on his words, I continued walking, keeping my senses focused to theonask ahead. I could still hear the battle behind us. We had won, but there were a few men left to be silenced and more to be imprisoned and when I returned, they would surely get the punishment they deserved.
The path we took soon opened into a forest, filled with trees and my heart took a strange beat as I studied the terrain. We were now further downhill and closer to the bottom of the cliff. Yet what I was seeing wasn't encouraging at all.
There were tall trees with sizeable branches and wide leaves all over the area, with the muffled sound of the river ahead. If this continues, then...
Shit.
I refused to think of the outcome that waited for us ahead. My heart tautened and my feet quickened. I ran down the sloping landscapes to the open land ahead of us where the bottom should be.
The sound of the river I had been hearing, grew louder and I turned to Greg, to see that he was also staring at me. This was not good at all.
We both started running, jumping through the steep terrain until we got to our destination. And what I feared was exactly what I found -There was no single sign of Willow.
"Shit!" I cursed openly as my anger bubbled through me, returning even stronger than before. "She must have escaped. F**k!"
Greg was quiet. He moved through the green canopy that lined the walls of the cliff's depth and checked the water just at the edge.
I started heading down the river, searching and hoping I found her. She couldn't have gotten far. Surely, she got injured and there had to be a place for her to wait.
"There is no point," Greg's calm voice reached me, and I paused, my anger changing projection.
"What do you f*****g mean by that? She is here somewhere. She couldn't have gotten too far. We need to search, and we need to f*****g replace her!" + growled and resumed walking.
"Not when she left. this behind," Greg added.
As much as I hated the confidence in his voice, I couldn't stop my head from turning around and my eyes from sizing up the piece of paper in his hands. "What's that?" I growled, narrowing my eyes at his hands.
Greg started coming towards me, taking his time before giving me an answer. I was too pissed to play any of his lecture games, so, I headed his way as well.
We met halfway and I snatched the paper from his hands. I brought it to my face and read the content as fast as I could.
"I am alive, and I will be back, boy king..." I read the bloody letters.
I squeezed the paper and threw it into the river with a roar. "How dare she?"
My entire being was shaking with rage. I had fucking failed my father. "I should have
- killed her when I had the chance. Damn it!" I gritted through my teeth.
My eyes moved through the steep terrain and an idea occurred to me. This was not the end. We could still catch her.
I turned my eyes to Greg, and he narrowed his at once. "This is another trap," I growled, and his brows raised as he silently urged me to continue.
"She fucking dropped this note to lure us away. She wants us to think she is getting away and we should let our guards down, but she isn't. She is fucking here. That note is to lead us astray!" I added.
Greg raised his hands to my face and shook his head. "Slow down Axel, we need to be sure that-"
"No," | hissed, interrupting him. "There is nothing to be f*****g, sure of. You need to get back to the mansion and get as many soldiers as you can. We need to go after. her!" I yelled.
"Axel, you need to be calm. A good king doesn't make decisions in anger. This same mistake almost cost you your life just a few hours ago and you are about to make it once again!" "Greg-"
"No, Axel! You are going to listen to me! I am not going to spend the next couple of hours worried about you! No way! I am not going to spend another moment, dreading what could have happened to you!" he hissed.
My body and my wolf grew restless. I scratched my head and pulled at the roots of my hair in irritation.
"You need to remember that if anything happens to you, we are all dead! There is nothing left for you or us!" he added, "Greg, please, fucking spare me the long lecture about leadership because I have a personal deal with that crazy woman and If I don't replace her, I will not know peace!"
"The entire kingdom will not know peace if anything happens to you, Axel. Don't you understand that? Why are you being selfish?"
"I am not being selfish; I am trying to end an enemy of my father. I am not going to hole away like some f*****g coward-"
"Nobody is asking you to hole away! All I am saying is that you are not in the right state of mind to go after her! You couldn't even replace the shitty note she left or the speck of blood where she fell, yet you want to go after her. She could set a damn trap for you up ahead and you wouldn't even replace it., because you are angry!" he retorted and this time, my anger moved just enough for me to reason with him.
He was right. Maybe I was too angry. Maybe this was even the reason why I saw her a second too late already by the cliff. But all these only increased my irritation. "Argh!" roared as I pulled at my hair again. "If I am not going after her.. What do you expect me to do Greg? I would lose my f*****g mind!"
His demeanor calmed and he stared straight at me like he was about to show me another one of those hand combat styles he taught me when I was much younger.
He stepped closer to where I was and placed his hand on my shoulder; "No you won't my boy. There are a lot of people still waiting for judgment and punishment. Let me handle this... Go be the king that you are..."
