The Lycan Series -
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 27
Avalyn's
POV
I lost myself in my own thoughts and couldn't remember how long it took for me to finally fall asleep.
When I woke up to the bright morning sunshine, I let out a loud sigh as I slid from the soft bed and made my way to the bathroom. I was in for another long day of doing nothing.
Well at least, Dawn and I were allowed to stroll around today. Since Talon's guests would most likely be in meetings.
With that thought in mind, I took a quick shower and got myself ready for the day. A soft knock on the door drew my attention as I stood in front of the mirror brushing my hair. I watched as one of the maids brought in a small tray of fresh fruits, coffee, juice, and some pastry.
"Thank you so much," I said to the young woman, who bowed her head to me and turned.
Her blond curls bounced onto her head as she left without a word. She had been the one, besides Dawn, who brought me my meals the last few days, and even though she didn't speak, it made me smile to think I had someone here. After brushing my hair, I decided on a pair of shorts and a white top to go along with it, something comfy to just lounge around in. After all, I wasn't going anywhere I wasn't allowed to.
After my simple morning routine, I walked over to the tray of breakfast and picked up the small white cup of coffee, bringing it slowly to my lips. The rich, dark flavor swirled in my mouth, I tried to stay positive by focusing on how tasty my meal was. After I was done with breakfast, Dawn barged into the room without warning, excitedly pulling me along with her to go for a walk. I laughed as she dragged me into the hall, making sure not to bump into the various maids we saw carrying plates and trays of food down the halls.
"What's going on? What's the big occasion?" I couldn't help my curiosity as we walked past a few of the maids balancing a tray of food in both hands as they made their way swiftly past us. How they did that was beyond me!
"The Alpha's hosting a huge dinner tonight, to welcome some big shot Alpha that arrived last night." She explained quietly.
I didn't even know more visitors had arrived at the pack last night.
We walked down the set of stairs that led to the library. As we walked past, I couldn't help but glance through the open doors, people were sitting in a large circle, all hunched over like they were looking at something displayed on the table. I locked eyes with Willow as she walked around the shelves collecting a few books. Instinctively, I quickly glanced away and hurried on after Dawn.
I had last seen her the day she called for me in her private quarters, which had been a really scary day for me.
Dawn and I finally reached the huge double doors that led to the outside of the huge building. We walked out the doors and headed straight for the gardens that decorated the sides of the building. As we made our way there, Dawn stopped to greet some maids and guards she knew with a smile, some of them even stopped to greet me too.
On our way to the flower fields, however, I couldn't help but be overcome with the feeling of being watched, I felt eyes on me and I didn't know if Dawn could feel it too.
Feeling unsettled, I turned around and locked eyes with a man I hadn't met before. He was tall and broad, his bulging muscles clearly visible from the tight black shirt that hugged his figure, his long brown hair tied up in a messy bun, asserting his strong jawline and straight nose. He looked like a god.
I was getting crazy supermodel vibes from him, I wouldn't be surprised if I saw him on the cover of a magazine the next day, he didn't even have to try to look good. His deep brown eyes didn't break eye contact with mine even after I had caught him staring. His mouth stretched into a small smirk as he raised one hand and gave a short wave.
I felt my face heat up as I gave a small nod back in greeting. At least I had to reciprocate his greeting, for I knew, he could be one of Talon's important guests.
"Who's that?" I whispered to Dawn, hoping she'd know whom I was talking about without having to point him out.
"Who?" She asked, looking around in confusion.
"The guy wearing a black shirt. He's over there by the water fountain."
"Oh, that's Alpha Tristan's son, Monty." Dawn drawled, recognition finally painting her feature. "He's the next Alpha of his pack after his father steps down."
I looked back at the man to replace him still staring at me. "Why does he keep staring at us?" I asked quietly, turning back to Dawn.
"You mean at you..." She said with a smirk, dragging the word 'you!
"Monty's actually here with his father trying to replace a mate. I heard from Greg that his father's trying to get him settled down."
I couldn't help but turn around for the third time to see if he was still staring at me, and thankfully he wasn't, he wasn't even standing near the water fountain anymore.
Dawn and I made it to the garden and we both took a seat on the small boulders scattered around the large field. I loved coming here, it was refreshing to feel the fresh morning air graze over my body, being cooped up in my room all day made me so much more appreciative of nature and the outdoors whenever I had a chance to go out. We had sat down on the boulders for a while, just enjoying the silence, until Dawn spoke out.
"Is that... is that a kitten?" She asked pointing further into the bushes by the side. "What the hell is a kitten doing here?"
I looked up at where she was pointing, and sure enough, a black kitten was standing just on the tree lines, strutting back and forth like it was lost. I wasted no time as I walked forward slowly, trying not to startle it.
"Here, kitty, kitty, kitty..." I called softly, stretching my hands out to pick it up. Recognition fell upon me as I realized it was the same cat from last night. "How did you get here?" I asked, obviously not expecting an answer.
"I wonder how this little fella got here." Dawn cooed as she got closer to us, she stretched her hand towards the small cat and ran her fingers through its head fur, making it purr loudly.
A branch from behind us suddenly snapped, making us both turn around. It was the guy from earlier, Monty. He walked straight towards me and sighed. "I've been looking all over for him." His deep voice rang out as he stretched his hands to gently collect the kitten from me.
"He's yours?" Dawn asked in confusion as she stared at him.
He didn't look at her though, with his eyes never once leaving mine, he answered, "He's my little brother actually. I'm on cat-sitting duty while he's away at boarding school."
"And you brought your brother's cat all the way here?" Dawn asked eyebrows raised slightly in disbelief.
He chuckled as he glanced at Dawn, only for a second before turning back to look at me. "What can I say? Just want to keep him close... make sure he's okay."
The cat let out a loud hiss as Dawn tried to take him from Monty.
"He's not so good with strangers... unless you have treats to offer him." Monty chuckled.
Dawn scoffed. "But he let Avalyn pick him up." She complained as she started walking away in the direction we'd come from.
"Where are you going?" I yelled out to her, confused as to why she was suddenly leaving me alone with the strange guy.
"Going to the kitchen to get him a snack." She yelled back, pointing at the cat in Monty's hands. Then she was gone.
We stood in silence for a few seconds before he broke it. "Avalyn eh? That's a beautiful name," he said with a smirk, showing his white teeth.
My cheeks turned a rosy color at the compliment. "Uhm, thanks," I said unsure. I wasn't really used to receiving compliments from people.
"So Avalyn," He started. My name rolled off his tongue like a song. "Does your Alpha keep beautiful ladies like you locked up in a room or something? I don't think I've ever seen you around here before." He added, coming closer to me.
I didn't know what I was supposed to say to him. I didn't know if I was even allowed to talk to him. I stared at him not knowing what to say.
"Uhm..." I stammered out.
"Oh shit! Forgive my rude manners. I don't think I ever introduced myself. I'm Montgomery, Monty for short."
The way he said it and the small smirk on his lips when he said it made it sound like there was an underlying meaning behind his words. But I didn't have time to figure it out though.
Before any of us could say anything else, Dawn had run to us with a handful of crackers, grinning excitedly.
