The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 35

Avalyn's POV

"Who? Monty?" Dawn asked with her nose buried in the closet.

"No, Ta- the king," I replied.

"Oh, I'm not really sure. Greg didn't tell me much... just that they had this meeting to attend there." She replied, throwing more stuff out of the closet haphazardly. I didn't even know I had so much. "Maybe we could ask Cassie when we go down to the village."

"Have we been granted permission for that?" I asked with hope dancing in my eyes.

"Yes, princess," Dawn teased me.

I rolled my eyes as I walked over to her. "I think that's enough... we can come to pick up the rest of the stuff later," I suggested.

"Oh great! I was about to scream just now," Dawn complained, walking over to the bed and slumping down on it. I let out a small chuckle as I watched her.

She brought the idea of packing up and now she was complaining.

"You're one privileged werewolf, aren't you?" I laughed at her remarks.

"You got that right," she said with a small smirk. "What'd you want to do today?"

"Can we go to the village now? Maybe we could see Greg before he leaves..." I suggested, already growing tired of folding shirts and gowns. I didn't wait for Dawn's response as I pulled off the blanket I had wrapped around me and started shoving my legs into a pair of black leggings.

"Someone's in a hurry." Dawn teased as she got up from my bed, walking towards the door to open it. I rolled my eyes at her and paid her no mind.

"I am not sure they'll still be in town but yeah Talon has a track record of delaying these visits." She added and I nodded swallowing the lump in my throat.

I secretly crossed my fingers as we made our way out of the room and headed straight down the stairs, stopping at the kitchen to greet the maids and grab a few snacks. We walked out the palace gates and onto the unpaved trail that lead to the main village. I had never been out here before, though I had heard stories about the market and the village itself. Talon had finally permitted us to stroll around the village but made sure we didn't wander too far away.

Maybe he figured I'd be bored locked up in my room all day.

The village was lively today. After a few minutes of wandering around and interacting with the people of the pack, I had to admit -Southern Ridge was really lovely. I stared in awe as I watched little cubs running around, playing, and kicking dirt everywhere. It was really weird to see werewolves that size.

"They're still learning how to control their transformation," Dawn explained when she noticed me staring at the kids.

"They teach younger wolves to transform?" I asked in shock. This was definitely new information.

Dawn laughed as she rolled her eyes at me. "Of course they do. How else do they change forms?"

"But I thought it came naturally...." I could have sworn that was what Mrs. Jacobson said in class one faithful day.

Dawn stared at me like I'd grown two heads. "What the hell do they teach you in human school?" She asked. "They're kids, Avalyn. They have to teach them how to control it so that when they get older controlling their inner wolves wouldn't be a problem. Especially during full moons."

Oh. That made sense.

Dawn led me over to a couple of women who were seated around a huge tree, wool in hand as they knitted some really amazing fabric. They welcomed us happily as we sat down with them, showing us how to use a crochet pin. We spent the next hour knitting scarves. So far, I had come to love the pack and the people I had met today, they all seemed to welcome me with open arms.

I was in the middle of knitting another scarf when I heard Talon's voice in the distance. I looked up and saw him and Greg standing by an open car, discussing. There were maids and guards around them both, loading the boot of the car with various suitcases and bags.

My heart flipped over in excitement as I realized that I was lucky after all... they haven't left yet.

"They're sure going away for long if they're taking that much stuff with them." I heard Dawn's voice drawl out. She must have noticed them too.

Her statement filled me with worry as I didn't feel safe enough without the Alpha. I knew I didn't see him every day, but something about him being away from here filled me with worry. Greg must have noticed us staring because he excused himself from Talon and started making his way toward us.

"Avalyn. Dawn." He greeted me when he got to where we sat.

"Greg," I said softly. "Here." I offered him the blue scarf I'd just finished knitting. I honestly didn't know what compelled me to do it. It was like my hands moved without informing my brain. He looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "What's this for?" He asked.

"Hello... it's obviously a blue scarf. For wearing around the neck to prevent cold." Dawn replied, sarcasm dripping from her tone.

"I know what a scarf is, Dawn." Greg sighed as he gave her a hard glare, but it didn't seem to faze her one bit.

"Thank you, Avalyn," he said, turning back to look at me.

"It's all right..." I smiled softly.

"I can see you guys are getting ready to leave," Dawn observed, clearly fishing for more information. "So..." She started, dragging out the word, "how long are you guys staying there?" "Hopefully just a few days. We have some meetings to attend and-" Greg suddenly paused, before releasing a long sigh, "Shit." He cursed softly.

"What's wrong?" I asked in concern.

"It's nothing, Avalyn." He said with a small smile, before turning to look at Dawn. "Emily's in Dark-moon. I'd planned to tell you, but I guess it escaped my mind."

I watched as Dawn's eyes grew larger and she suddenly stood up, discarding the pins and wools that had been laying on her lap. "Are you serious?" She shrieked, drawing the attention of the nearby women who looked at her in irritation. "Yes, Dawn. I am." Greg rolled his eyes.

I couldn't help the small chuckle that left my mouth as I watched the siblings interact. Dawn was a hell of a lot to deal with, but Greg handled her well. He was a great big brother, anyone could see that.

"Well, I have to go. I'll see you guys in a few days," Greg said as he placed his hand on Dawn's head, ruffling her hair. "Make sure you guys stay out of trouble." He added, but I had a feeling he was referring to Dawn alone. Before he left, he turned to me, "Make sure you talk to Lydia if you feel weird or sick."

I nodded with a small smile. He returned the smile before he turned to walk away. I watched as he got into the car, along with Talon who turned back to lock eyes with mine before entering the car and slamming the door shut.

It was only after the car had driven out of sight that I released a long breath. I had a feeling the next few days were going to be boring as f**k.

"What do you want to do now?" Dawn asked, turning to face me.

"Uhm.... we could go see Cassie?" I suggested, standing up from where I'd been seated as I stretched my arm towards her.

"All right then," she accepted, pulling herself up using my outstretched arm.

As dawn and I made our way towards Cassie's, my steps suddenly slowed as a sudden wave of nausea came over me. I felt bile rise to my throat and I was hit with a sudden urge to empty all the content of my stomach. I quickly darted behind a couple of shrubs lined by the side and started throwing up, the acidic taste in my mouth making me gag in disgust.

"Shit!" I heard Dawn curse loudly and before I knew what was going on, a hand had pulled my hair away from my face, another patting my back comfortingly.

"I think Greg jinxed me." I groaned, causing Dawn to let out a small chuckle. I felt horrible, the taste in my mouth was anything but pleasant. My body felt weak like I had run a marathon all night -which I sort of did.

"We have to get you to Lydia," Dawn said as she tried to help me stand properly.

As I tried to comply, the blinding pain in my head intensified. It felt like my head was on fire and trying to stand only seemed to worsen it. Darkness slowly started clouding my vision as my name rang out in the distance, growing fainter by the second. The last image I saw before I blacked out was of Dawn trying to hold me up.
