The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 48

Talon's

POV

The smell of the clinic turned my nose up a bit. As I stood there staring at Avalyn's unconscious form on the bed, my blood boiled. I was filled with so much rage and I could tell everyone in the room felt it too.

I had been abruptly brought out of my slumber by Greg's frantic knocking this morning, with the worse news anyone could have ever woken up to. Avalyn was in the clinic, she has been found at the foot of the stairs, bleeding and unconscious.

I had wasted no time as I made my way to Lydia's, fury taking over me as I stormed to the clinic. What the hell had Avalyn been thinking? She had left her room late at night for whatever reason and had somehow managed to trip off the stairs, putting herself and the baby in danger. Goddess, I hoped the baby was okay.

I watched as Lydia tinkered with various tools and objects, taking down notes in her notepad and checking Avalyn's vitals.

"What is it, Lydia?" I snapped impatiently, I knew she was trying her best, but I didn't have it in me to feel any sort of empathy now.

"She's going to be fine, and so is the baby." She said, clearly trying to put off a brave face.

They were going to be fine, both Avalyn and the baby. I felt immensely relieved at the news, but the anger had not left, it wouldn't leave until I punished someone for this.

"HOW COULD YOU?!" I yelled, turning to Dawn who had her head bowed in fear. "HOW COULD YOU BE SO CARELESS TO LET HER WANDER OUT ALONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING NIGHT?!"

She trembled, dropping down to her knees as tears welled up in her eyes. "I'm so sorry Alpha. I-I'll take whatever p-punishment you deem fit." The girl whimpered.

All I could see was red. I knew Dawn was not to be blamed for this predicament, but logical reasoning had long since left me. Somebody needed to be punished for this, somebody needed to pay. I could feel Greg's intense gaze, I knew even he wouldn't dare interfere, it didn't matter if he was my Beta or not.

"SHE WAS UNDER YOUR CARE, DAWN!" I yelled. "WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!" I prowled forward, toward her trembling form.

Emily, however, quickly came to block my path. "I know you're upset, Talon. Trust me, we all are. But please do not blame Dawn for what is not her fault."

I felt my wolf howl in anger. How dare she question my authority? How dare she talk to me in such a manner? The tension in the room grew tenfold as my sister stood there, still blocking my path.

I felt my vision become red, a sign that my wolf was trying to take control, but I took in a deep breath and tried to calm myself. She was my sister. I couldn't harm her.

"You will not ever talk to me in such a way, ever again!" I hissed lowly, I couldn't even recognize my own voice.

"I'm sorry, Alpha," Emily said with a frown on her face.

We all stood there in tense silence, everyone trying not to cower in fear at the threatening aura my body was exuding. Emily slowly pulled Dawn to her feet and gave her a tight hug, I felt myself calm down a little bit as I watched this. "Hey Lydia," Greg called from beside me, breaking the tense silence. "Do we get to see the baby today?" He asked, piquing my interest. I had known Greg for a long time to understand that he was trying to get my mind off of how angry I was. "That's the plan. We'll try to get a proper ultrasound done today, I think now we'll be able to get a perfect picture." Lydia said, still on edge. "But, Alpha. Shouldn't we wait for Avalyn to wake up?" She turned to me, trying hard not to tremble. "We continue without her," I growled. Despite everything that had been going on, this was something I was kind of excited about, I wanted to see my child.

"As you wish, my king."

As Lydia walked over to start the procedure of ultrasound, it just didn't feel like the right thing to do anymore. Avalyn had to be present and conscious when we saw the baby for the first time. I had to at least give her this one moment to appreciate the baby since she was going to be sent away once the child was born.

"Wait," I called out, making everyone stop what they were doing. "We'll wait until she wakes up," I said, looking at the unconscious girl on the bed. I sighed softly, Avalyn was going to kill me with worry. "Just let me know when she's awake." With that said, I left the room, Greg following closely behind me.

As we walked back to the throne room, I broke the silence between us. "How could Avalyn be so stupid? She's carrying my heir for goddess' sake." I hissed.

"We should be grateful that she's fine, my King." He tried to reason.

"Of course I'm grateful, that doesn't make me less angry though." I hissed out, then paused as something came to my realization. "Who were the guards assigned to guarding her door last night?"

Greg also paused at my question. "The same ones as always."

"Send them to me. They have to pay for their incompetence." I ordered, leaving Greg to his duty as I made my way to my destination.

I stepped into my room, hands dripping with blood and shirt-stained crimson. Immediately Willow saw me, she dropped the book she'd been reading and ran over to me.

"What the hell happened to you?" She asked frantically, looking me all over.

"I'm fine. They're not mine." I assured softly. I had made sure to punish someone for Avalyn's sake.

"Whose is it then?"

"The guards." I stepped passed her, heading into the bathroom to wash my hands and get rid of my shirt. When I came back, she had a puzzled look on her face and so I elaborated. "The guards that put my child's life in danger. If they had been at their station, guarding her door, Avalyn wouldn't have gone out in the middle of the night. I just thank the moon goddess she and the baby are fine."

Willow took in a sharp breath. "So she didn't lose the baby?" She asked, staring past me and out the window. I knew she was deep in thought but I couldn't tell what was going through her mind.

"She didn't." I sighed watching her. Things had been kind of off between us ever since the day she'd confronted me about spending too much time with Avalyn. "Lydia's going to get an ultrasound done when she wakes up."

"Why not get it done now? To see how the baby's doing." She asked with a frown.

"I want her to have a form of closure. She has to be awake for this, it's her child too." I excused myself, already feeling the anger radiating from Willow's body, but she surprised me by giving me a small smile.

"You're right. It's her child too," she said, walking past me to get back on the bed and continue reading her book. "Let's just hope nothing else happens to her or her child."

My brows furrowed at her words. As I was about to ask her what she had meant, a knock on the door quickly snapped my attention.

"My King. The mage requests for your presence." I heard the voice of one of the guards from outside the door.

"She's probably awake." I turned to Willow, "Do you want to come with me to see our child?" I asked, but Willow shook her head 'no.' I didn't pressure her further, I understood if she didn't feel comfortable being in that position, in the same room with someone I'd defiled our marriage with.

As I walked down to the clinic, I was joined by Greg on the way. We walked in to replace Avalyn awake, teary-eyed as she conversed with Dawn and Lydia. Emily was nowhere to be found.

"Where's Emily?" I asked immediately after I stepped in.

"I saw her by the training room earlier. She did mention that she'd be back to help Avalyn back to her room." Greg replied.

I turned to Lydia and nodded my head, a signal for her to proceed with the ultrasound and finally show us what the baby looked like. It had been a little over six weeks since conception, even I wasn't sure it would have taken form yet. But we just had to be sure that nothing serious was wrong after Avalyn's accident.

As Lydia walked about to set things up, I could tell that Avalyn was nervous. She was fidgety and her hands would not stop shaking. She hadn't even looked me in the eyes since I stepped in, maybe she felt like I would punish her. I was sure they'd all heard of the news about what I'd done to the guards by now, news spread fast.

"All right Avalyn, let's do this," Lydia said, finally ready to start.
