The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 50

Avalyn's

POV

The night had seemed to pass by in a blur after the whole falling off the stairways shenanigan. I would be assigned two guards today that would go with me everywhere. I sighed, now feeling even more like a prisoner than before.

Honestly, it was starting to piss me off. Yes, I knew Talon meant well, but everything was starting to tire me out. I still hadn't told anyone that I was pushed off the stairs and that I hadn't tripped. Honestly, I didn't even know if I could, if anyone would believe me. "Avy?" Emily's voice called softly as she walked into my room, dragging me out of my thoughts. "I was coming to see if you wanted to go down for breakfast. I'm meeting up with Dawn, and since it's your last day of freedom... we could just sit down and hang out for a few minutes."

I knew very well that Talon didn't want me to leave my room without Dawn, but I really didn't care anymore. "That sounds wonderful," I replied, getting up from the bed. "Let me quickly freshen up and we can go."

If I was going to leave my child behind, then I would live the rest of my life the way I wanted to. I was grateful that I could still keep my friendship with Dawn and Emily, but I wasn't going to allow Talon to make me feel less than I was anymore. Even if I knew he was doing it to keep me safe.

I rushed to the bathroom and took a quick wash, pulling off the bandage Lydia had wrapped around my head. When I was done and fully dressed, Emily helped me cover the bruise with a small plaster, since it didn't look as bad as it had yesterday.

I made up my mind that I was going to confess what happened that night to Dawn and Emily once we got to the breakfast hall downstairs, I had to. Walking down the halls, I saw Greg approaching us from the opposite direction. His eyes landed on us and he immediately turned to me.

"Hey, what're you doing here?" He asked.

"I am-" I started before Emily cut me off.

"She's going to eat breakfast with friends. Is there a problem with that?" She asked, meeting his gaze.

Greg seemed surprised at her outburst, his mouth opened and closed He looked at me silently asking for help, but I shrugged my shoulders innocently.

In a voice I could barely hear, he replied. "She's not supposed to leave her room without Dawn."

"Why? Because Talon said so? She's pregnant, Greg. She wants food and company. Both of which are in the hall downstairs." She hissed. "Moreover we're headed to Dawn anyway."

She didn't wait to hear Greg's reply. Instead, she looped her arms through mine and started walking away. I felt bad for Greg, he was only following orders. I patted him on the arm comfortingly as we passed by him.

After we'd gotten a few more steps away from Greg, I turned to Emily with a look of surprise on my face as I asked, "What was that?"

"What the hell was what?" She chuckled. "I've told you, Avy, come out of your shell a little bit. Don't let Talon and Greg drag you around. He's not going to hurt you if you speak up."

I froze as I stared at her, then we both burst into laughter as we continued walking. As we walked into the hall, I thought about what Emily had said. She was right. I knew Talon would never hurt me, he cared too much about his unborn heir. "Good morning, Dawn. Emily invited me, I hope that's okay." I replied with an unsure smile.

"Oh goddess, of course, it's okay. I'm just surprised you were allowed to leave the room, I was about to bring up some breakfast for you."

Emily chuckled, shaking her head as Dawn turned to her, confused. "What?" She asked

"We ran into Greg on the way here, and in not so many words, I basically said 'fuck Talon'- gracefully, I might add," Emily explained, shoving her mouth full of food.

Dawn hooked on her water and tilted her head to the side. "Knowing you, I don't think that's all you said."

"I'm living how I want to, remember that," Emily said, pointing her fork to Dawn, drawing a small chuckle from her. "Now -shall we have some real food? I'm f*****g starving."

I was thankful that Emily was quick to change the subject. The last thing I wanted was to continue having a conversation about what I was and wasn't supposed to do. I had been quiet and timid my entire life, always scared of everyone around me. For once, I wanted to do something for myself. Plus, it wasn't like Talon was going to do anything about it.

We were still in the middle of breakfast when a maid came to our table carrying on one hand a single slice of chocolate cake. She gave me a small smile as she offered it to me.

"I-It's the last slice... I figured you'd want it, Miss Avalyn," she said shyly.

"Oh!" I exclaimed surprised. "Thank you very much," I said, giving her a smile in return. She looked really familiar but I just couldn't place where I'd seen her before.

As she shuffled away, Emily turned to me with a teasing smirk on her face. "Looks like Avy is getting pretty popular around here." She joked.

I rolled my eyes at her but smiled anyways. "She seems nice. I feel like I've met her before, but I don't know." I said, immediately digging into the desert. I felt my eyes widen at how tasty the cake was. It was really good.

"Hmm..." Dawn started, sipping from a cup of water. "Yeah, you're right. I think she's one of Luna's maids... probably," she said dismissively.

"Well whoever she is, she's my new favorite person. This cake is tasty as shit!" I said with a voice that was muffled around a mouthful of the chocolate treat.

Dawn and Emily gave me weird looks before bursting into laughter.

"Shit definitely doesn't sound like it'd be tasty, Avy." Emily chuckled.

"E" I groaned out loud, throwing a look of disgust at her. "You know what I mean, stop making it sound weird."

Breakfast with Dawn and Emily was lovely. Being able to do things I wanted to without having to follow anyone's orders was lovely. However, my joy vanished as soon as I saw Greg approaching our table with two people behind him, I had to squint my eyes almost shut before I realized that they were the two women that'd been with him the day he had come to retrieve me from my father's house.

"Avalyn." He called as he stopped in front of me. "I was hoping I'd catch you here. These are......."

I zoned him out as I began to feel my body tremble. Something was not right. All of a sudden it felt like my stomach was on fire, I immediately got up from the chair I'd been seated in. A rush of relief washed over me as I felt the pain subside, maybe I had stuffed myself too full.

I smiled at Greg, even though I hadn't heard anything that he said. I figured the two women -or werewolves- were my new guards.

"...so make sure you listen to whatever they tell you. And please, no leaving your room without them, okay?" He finished as if he had been talking to a child and not a nineteen year old.

I nodded my head as a sign of acceptance, knowing there was nothing else I could say or do to change his mind. Talon had spoken, and his command was to be obeyed.

"I'll be heading back to my room now. I think I ate too much, I want to go lay down for a bit." I said to no one in particular.

Emily nodded and Dawn gave me a smile.

"We'll be back later to keep you company," Dawn promised, making me smile.

As I walked back to my room, I pondered over everything that had happened in my nineteen years of life up until this moment. It hadn't been easy, but I had learned to live with the tribulations, and I had survived. Now that my days were counting down, I suddenly didn't want to be my usual timid self anymore. I wanted to be treated like everybody else. I would only live once, and I wanted more.

Increasing my pace as I walked down the hall towards my room, I heard one of my latest guards calling out my name as she ran towards me. "Miss Avalyn, please slow down."

"Look, you don't have to follow me around all day, you know?" I said knowing very well that they wouldn't listen.

They both stopped behind me before giving each other weird looks. "Miss Avalyn," The blond-haired one said. "You know we cannot disobey our King's orders."

I stopped at my door and turned to face them both, a sarcastic smile on my face. "You're right, both of you. But what you guys are failing to understand is that I am not a little kid that can't take care of herself." I said, feeling irritated as the pain in my belly returned. "We're just following orders, ma'am. The King will have our head if we don't." "Well he's not my king, so please leave me alone."

I knew I shouldn't have said that, but I was in so much pain that my brain hadn't registered what was pouring out of my mouth. I stepped into my room, slamming the door and locking it behind me. Slowly, the pain subsided and I let out a breath of relief. But as I turned around to walk to my bed, I came face to face with the Lycan king himself.

Talon growled as he stepped closer to me, his face pulled into an ugly scowl as he stared at me.

"What did you just say?"
