The Lycan Series -
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 8
Avalyn's
POV
Her voice sounded so sweet and melodic but cruel at the same time. Even I didn't know how that was possible.
Her blue eyes pierced into my very soul as she held our gaze. It took all of my willpower now to look away. Who was this woman? Was she also a werewolf?
She definitely was a werewolf too. And a powerful one at that. Maybe she was the alpha king? Were women allowed to lead packs? I had no idea, all this was still new to me. If she was the person Greg was referring to earlier when he was telling Lydia to hurry up, then maybe she was their leader.
"Welcome to Southern ridge." She proclaimed as she got closer to my bed, the others making way for her.
I looked on in confusion as I still had no idea what was going on or who this woman was. She must have seen it on my face because she sighed and sat on the edge of the bed staring at me intently. "You're confused," she said, stating the obvious.
"What do you want... from me?" I managed to ask, my voice a stuttering mess.
The woman smiled at my question. But there was something about the way she did it that made me feel very unsafe. I had been around really heartless and evil people my whole life, from the people at school to my stepmother, to even my own father but none had brought chills up my spine as easily as this woman did.
Something was lurking behind her eyes and I could tell she didn't mean well. All her bright and charming smile, a facade.
"Oh, Avalyn. What I want is something only you can give me. Something I've wanted for a very long time," She said manically. A 'sweet' smile on her face.
"But I don't understand what's going on. I don't know how I'm supposed to be of use here. I just want to go home," I whispered, more tears rolling down my face.
"Well, you can't. You're here now, aren't you?" she said, then gestured to Lydia. "How long until she's ready?"
Lydia trembled forward, "She needs time Luna. She's already suffered too much today -any more stimulation to her body might cause her to have a mental breakdown. Besides, you've seen the condition she's in first-hand. Due to her long-term abuse, she physically can't bear the burden of being a breeder right this moment." She recited, not daring to look at Luna -I assumed that was her name since that was what they all called her- in the eye.
But as the name 'breeder' resounded in my subconscious blood drained from my face. This was worse than I thought.
They were going to use me to make their babies! They wanted me to be a breeder? For who? How did they even breed with creatures like them? Did they have the same body structure as humans? All this was confusing, and no one seemed to be interested in making me understand.
"Hmmm, so we have to wait." The beautiful woman stood up abruptly and started to pace slowly across the room.
"We don't have much time to waste Lydia. We need this done as soon as possible. Can't you just cook her a potion to make her feel better?" She asked impatiently, clearly not satisfied with the reply she got.
"I'm afraid I cannot Luna. There are still some tests I have to take regarding her health," Lydia said unsure, "However, from what I can see right now -what I'm sure we can all see right now, is that the girl is malnourished, sleep deprived, and suffering from extensive abuse. Some of the internal wounds look old and repetitive. Just give me time to get her healthy enough to conceive."
"Yeah and she's bruised all over." Dawn who'd been quiet this entire time pointed out.
"In my professional opinion Luna, I believe Miss Avalyn needs some time to heal from her wounds. I would hate to see something happen to her or the child if she doesn't heal properly," Lydia drawled on.
She continued talking but at that point, I'd zoned out of the conversation going on around me. Pregnant... Child... Conceive.
All the words that had been so foreign to me were now repeatedly reminding me what a breeder meant and would be used for.
"Dawn, that's enough!" Greg's sudden low rebuke brought me back to my senses.
I looked up and saw that Luna had furrowed her brows, there was condensed anger on her face. The atmosphere in the room had become tense as Luna glared daggers at Dawn, she must have said something she didn't appreciate. I could tell that Greg's reprimand was not a reprimand at all, but a protection for Dawn before the woman could punish her. "Luna..." I held tightly onto the edge of the bed and tried to drag my weakened legs to stand on my feet.
I couldn't stand by and watch Dawn incur this woman's wrath because she was trying to protect me. Taking a deep breath, I tried to pull myself together.
"Please, I will pay off my father's debt. I swear I'll pay it off. Wh-whatever amount he owes. I'll work hard and pay it back." I stuttered, assuming this whole thing was a misunderstanding and hoping my father traded me to these people because he owed them some amount of money and not because he wanted me to become their breeder.
My words managed to draw the woman's attention away from Dawn, she turned to me and gave me an amused look, clicking her tongue maniacally. "Oh, you sweet girl. You think you're here because your father owes some debts?"
"I... my father must have been a debtor. He's an alcoholic... and... And he owes a lot of people money. I can work for you, I can work for weeks, months, and even years. Anything, I swear I'll pay off whatever my father owes you...I swear I will." I pleaded, tears rolling down my face. "Please..."
The silence was terrifying, and the cold glint in her eyes made me shiver. Everyone in the room, besides Luna, was looking at me with sympathy. If my legs weren't so sore and weak, I wouldn't have been able to suppress the urge to run away. Even though I had to brace myself on the edge of the bed to stand, even if her razor-sharp gaze tore at my soul. I gritted my teeth and straightened my back, using all my courage to look at her.
"Whatever it is... however much it is, I promise I'll pay."
One second, two seconds... five seconds passed.
Her gaze never left me. She looked amused like she was having fun at my despair. I felt sweat dripping down from my forehead, sliding along my cheeks and to my neck. It glided down into the open cuts on my face, bringing bouts of stinging pain. The air in the room suddenly turned suffocating, making me dizzy.
"You poor, poor girl." Luna's condescending voice drawled mockingly. "You don't know, do you?"
I turned to Greg questioningly but he looked the other way, avoiding my gaze.
"Know what?" I croaked.
"Guess nobody told you. You're not here because your father owes us money Avalyn. You're here because he sold you to us," The blond-haired woman said, a small smirk plastering her face. She walked closer to me, standing directly in front of the bed. "The only purpose you're here to serve is to birth a child. The king's child." She dropped the news like it was nothing.
"What?" I asked, stunned out of my mind.
"That's right. You should be ecstatic. Not a lot of girls get this type of opportunity."
I was supposed to get impregnated by a man -a werewolf I knew nothing about. How was that even possible?
He was a werewolf for crying out loud. I could die.
"That's not possible... I can't do that, I'm just a girl." I tried to reason.
"Well yes, you are. You're a human girl and he's a Lycan, blah... blah... blah..." She said with an eye roll. "Wouldn't that be perfect?"
I could only look at her in shock. This woman was crazy.
Had my father known what these people were going to do with me when he sold me to them?
I was overcome with anger and confusion. Anger at my father's selfishness, and confusion because I still had no idea how a human was supposed to conceive and birth to a werewolf.
Not any werewolf but their Lycan King!
I have read stories of humans being sold as breeders but Mrs. Jacobson told us it was just a decoy to make us believe they were doing us a favor and forming alliances. 'Every human they took got killed... Mrs. Jacobson's voice rang in my head.
"No! I won't do this! This is crazy! All of you are crazy-"
"You will not speak to my Luna in such a manner!" Greg's booming voice snapped, cutting me off. He growled, walking closer to me, but was held back by Luna herself.
"Let her be, Beta," she said softly, glaring daggers at me.
"It seems she doesn't know how things work here." She turned to Lydia and said, "Two weeks. I give you two weeks to get her ready." And with that, she made her way to leave the room, the guards trailing behind her, only stopping when she gripped the doorknob. She turned around to address me once more, "Welcome to the southern ridge, Avalyn." And then, she was gone.
