The Lycan Series -
Bullied By The Lycan King Chapter 21
Violet's POV
"What have you done?" The screeching voice screamed behind me once again and before I could respond almost the entire mansion surrounded me while more filled the corridor.
My heart dropped to my stomach and I turned around to see the person screaming, it was no other than Savannah. She was now dressed but she still seemed crazy. How could she be asking that question?
"I didn't do it!" I retorted, refusing to be blamed for a crime I knew nothing about.
"Oh, really! And why did you come here?" She yelled.
My mouth opened to reply to her but I closed it once her silly question echoed in my head.
"You asked me to come check on her..." She pointed out my brows rising in disbelief.
If I was having doubts before, now I was convinced that Savannah was crazy.
"Let me check her." Hilda pushed past me and moved to the lifeless woman on the bed, ultimately ending the exchange between crazy Savannah and me.
Hilda touched her left hand and felt for a pulse. Then slowly she turned to the people at the door and shook her head.
"She is dead," she whispered with a frown on her face.
"No!" Savannah cried out.
"Oh, dear goddess!" The others chorused.
Hilda raised her fingers, motioning to someone behind me to step forward. Soon the heavy sound of boots filled the space around me as two large guards stepped out from the crowd and got into the room. "Take her to the doctors, I want to know the cause of her death and make sure to check if she is pregnant," Hilda instructed and the guards nodded abruptly.
One of them marched around the bed and lifted Hera's body, using the bedcover to wrap her properly to avoid touching her skin. The way he moved her, it felt like she was a piece of paper.
With her body now secured over his shoulder, he started heading out of the room and his partner followed closely behind.
"Everybody return to your duties," Hilda suddenly said and slowly shuffled the feet of the maids and some other guards filled the room as they made their way out.
I also turned to leave but Hilda's deep voice stopped me.
"Not you, Violet."
A large lump sat in my throat and I turned to look at her. She didn't take Savanna seriously, did she?
"Hilda, it was her! Oh, goddess!" Savannah cried out as she too moved back to the room.
"Where is Lady Thalia?" Hilda's focus was now on Savannah.
Savannah ran her fingers into her hair and looked around her. "I don't know. Why are you asking me?" Hilda's eyes were darkened with an emotion I couldn't really put a finger on but she wasn't happy at all.
She pulled out her phone and stepped out of the room.
"You seem to have a lot of opinions to give and I need to speak to you all, right Now!" She hissed.
"Come with me, two of you," she ordered.
"And?"
I looked over at Savannah who made a face but still followed. I was amazed at how much power Hilda had over everyone. It was fine that she ordered the slaves and the maids but the concubines too? Who was she exactly?
She came to a stop at a door that had a strong scent of Jasmine oozing around it. Then she gave a sharp knock before pushing it open.
Lady Thalia was on her feet at once.
"Sorry to barge in on you but there is an emergency. When last did you both see Hera?" Hilda asked, pointing a finger at them.
"Come on, Hilda, you don't have to question us in front of the slave!" Savannah hissed.
Hilda's dark eyes seemed to spark as she snapped her head to Savannah. Her hands were pulled into fists and her temples had veins in them.
Savannah had successfully angered her.
"Right now, you are all suspects and I will not hesitate to throw any of you into the dungeon if I don't get a befitting response!"
My heart skipped a beat at her words and my eyes blinked with worry. How could she consider me a suspect? All I did was replace the body and it took less than ten seconds for the whole mansion to be there. "I saw her two days ago," Thalia's shaky voice filled the room.
Hilda pulled out her phone again and started typing into it.
"What was she doing when you saw her?" Hilda asked again.
Thalia's cheeks turned pink and she dropped her eyes to the ground. "We were with the King."
Hilda paused her notes and looked up at her. "You were both with the King?"
Thalia nodded positively and Hilda let out a sigh before turning to Savannah. "And you, when did you last see Hera?"
"Look, Hilda, it is clear here that Thalia was the one who saw her last. Please, if you need to arrest anyone, it should be her and this slave girl!" Savannah said, gesturing with her hands.
Hilda's tall frame seemed to grow even bigger as she glared at Savannah. Her eyes were no longer just black they now had a tiny hue of red to them.
"I am going to ask you one more time, when did you last see Hera?"
Savannah stopped her antics at once. "I saw her yesterday okay?" "And?"
Sweat appeared on her forehead as she looked around helplessly. I didn't know Hilda or the kind of control she had but I could tell Savannah was scared.
"She was holding out her stomach and heading to her room. I asked her what was wrong with her and she said she was fine! I didn't think she would die! She couldn't have died, I think this slave killed her!"
"That is not for you to decide. You should worry about your head," Hilda hissed. "You saw her in pain and didn't bother to tell me. Why?" Hilda's voice was no longer harsh, it was stern but I could feel the pain in it. "I didn't... I was-"
"Just stop! Savannah I have grown sick and tired of you! Just pray that you have nothing to do with this because if you do, I swear on my mother's life, I will-"
Thelie quickly nodded end jumped to her feet to come end lock the door behind us.
I couldn't see the king. He would kill me.
"You will what?" Savannah screeched. Her features suddenly changed. She no longer looked scared or intimidated.
"You can't hurt me, Hilda. I will carry the King's heir and my status will be lifted... By that time, I will request your head as a gift!" She threatened before walking out of the door.
"Oh, goddess... This is bad," Thalia cried out, falling onto her bed. She hugged herself and shook her head from side to side like a person who had gotten a terrible dream.
Hilda flexed her fists, closing and opening them. Then she heaved a sigh and turned to me.
"Come with me," she said and we started heading out. As we got to the door, she paused and turned to Thalia. "Keep your door locked until the King returns."
Thalia quickly nodded and jumped to her feet to come and lock the door behind us.
As we started walking down the corridor, the scent of the flowers no longer seemed appealing to me anymore. My heart was thumping and racing as I feared what would happen next.
I didn't even know where Hilda was taking me.
"Hilda, I didn't kill that lady... Hera. I met her sprawled on the bed and before I could do anything Savannah screamed down the whole house. I swear on my parents, I didn't do it," I whispered to her as we walked. "I know. But you will have to explain that to the king," she said and my blood turned cold in my chest.
I couldn't see the king. He would kill me.
"But I can't see the king," I mumbled, unable to stop myself.
Hilda stopped walking and turned to glare at me. "I don't know how you were brought up princess but doesn't this whole situation tell you that the rules have changed?"
"I don't... But Axe-the King himself asked me to stay away from him. I can't present myself before him..." I desperately tried to explain to her.
Her eyes trailed off my face and it landed on my shoulder. Her frown deepened as she moved closer. She shifted my torn clothes and saw the cut Savannah had made. "Savannah did this, didn't she?"
I looked at the cut and then at her face. "Yes, but that isn't important right now. What I am trying to say is that I can't see the King."
Hilda's face pulled into a smirk and she tapped my uninjured arm. "I like you, Violet. I don't usually like humans, but I like you," she said and turned around to continue moving. So she wasn't a human. No wonder her eyes could change color like that...
"Uhmm, so what are you saying? Can I return to the quarters now?" I followed behind her and continued pestering her with questions. My life and my parent's life, depended on it. "As I said, you will remain here until the King returns," came her swift response.
