Chapter 66

Katrina's POV

His brow came up as he waited for me to speak, taking a step closer.

I wasn't certain what to say or what to do, so I just said the first thing that came to mind.

"Thank you for saving me,

His eyes widened slightly as they softened but he merely grunted in response.

You should thank Alisa not me. She was the one who came to me crying about how she couldn't get to you and how you needed help. U only came because of her,

He looked away awkwardly, rubbing his neck slightly.

I was certain he was only using Alisa to cover up but I nodded. My head nonetheless.

He didn't say anything else after that, just watched me quietly.

I felt weird under his gaze, my eyes darting between him and the door.

Has he ever stared at me this way?

Not at all

Does this mean that he hates me less now? And doesn't think I tried to kill him?

"Do you still think I tried to kill you?" The question was out of my mouth before I could stop myself and I stared at him waiting for an answer.

"What?" His head snapped up in surprise, as if he was never expecting me to ask that

And I wasn't expecting myself to ask as well.

"You sent me off to him to replace out if I gad actually tried to kill you or not. Do you still think that I did?" I repeated, replaceing it too late to change my question.

It would keep eating at me if I don't replace out and I needed to know.

"No. I don't..." His reply came almost immediately, but it sounded like a close lie.

"Are you sure?" I asked once more, replaceing myself stupid for even asking.

Silas stared at me wordlessly, not even bothering to answer.

The older man seemed to be tired of me at this point.

I had nothing else to say as well, so my grip on my bedsheets tightened and I looked away.

I couldn't tell what he was thinking, but something about him being here with me made me feel safe, even if my heart was Mill unsure

He had rushed down immediately Alisa had told him I was in danger, coming into Marco's territory once more just to save

I wasn't certain where Marcos was at that moment or Davien, but I was happy that none of them were there to stop him.

Chapter 66

As I laid there, memories from my father's house came flooding back in deep waves.

Marcos had said that he didn't care if I died, and then he had gone ahead to repeat in to my face once more.

I knew from the way he treated me that he didn't care about chat happened to me.

But hearing it to my face had killed the last bit of hope I had for him.

It seems that my father was totally dead to me and what stood in his place was a cold heartless man.

Marcos never really acted kike a father, so it wasn't hard to convince myself that he was the enemy right now.

G

The bruises on my body reminded me of every cruel word he II said and the twisted look in his eyes as he hit me.

The fact that my own father could hurt me like that, treat me like a pawn in some cruel game, hurt deeper than any wound he had ever gIVEN ME

It made me question everything, especially the people around m

And then, there was Silas. The man who had kidnapped me.

He saved me, yes, but I couldn't shake the questions swirling in my mind.

Did he care, or was I just another piece in his plans, just like my father?

He had hinted that he rushed over to me immediately he heard that I might be in danger, but what if it was all part of his ploy

A piece to use, a pawn in hand

That was all I ever was to people.

1

I pushed those thoughts away for now, knowing they'd resurface later when I was alone.

After a few minutes, Silas pushed away from the wall where he rested.

"1

I need to go do something, you can come to my office if you need me," He stated and I nodded my head, watching him leave

Unsure of what to do. I wanted to call Alisa to thank her for saving me, but I didn't want to bother her.

Pulling my blanket over my bed, i let myself fall asleep once more.

My eyes pulled open and I blinked back against the darkness.

How long have I been asleep for?

I wasn't certain but I was getting tired of sleeping.

Filled with the need to see Alisa, I pushed up from the bed. With careful hands, I lowered my feet down to the floor, ignoring the shaking of my arm

My legs gave off beneath me and I immediately fell to the floor

My whole body was weak and I strained to push myself up.

After a few unsuccessful tries, I managed to steady myself on my feet, walking to the door.

I'd barely gotten out of my room when Maria found me in the hallway.

Chapter 66

This wasn't what I needed right now. I thought to myself, trying to increase my pace but it was of no use.

If I tried to walk faster than a turtle, my broken skin would move and my entire body would scream in protest. Seeing the state I was in, her cold eyes scanned me from head to toe, her lips curving into a mocking smirk. She was going to say something, that I was certain about.

I prayed I would be able to walk away without saying anything her, but it seemed that wasn't what she wanted...

"Back so soon from Daddy's little house of horrors?" she sneered and I paused in my tracks.

I turned my attention to her, letting out a sigh.

Siner she wanted ut so bad, why don't I give it to her.

"Must be nice to have everyone fawning over you now, poor Katrina, the tragic little damsel."

Her words hit hard, but I forced myself to stay calm.

Everyone fawning over me?

Was that what she thought?

I couldn't think of a particular per

person who had fawned over me but I kept my peace.

"I don't know what you're talking about," I replied instead, keeping my voice steady.

ww

"Oh, don't play innocent, she rolled her eyes, stepping closer to me.

"Any closer and I might see the pores in her face, the words slipped out of my lips before I could stop myself and I took a step back Her face twisted in annoyance, but she didn't reply to that

"Silas might feel sorry for you, but I see right through it. You're using those bruises, that pathetic look in your eyes, just to manipulate him." This again?

She felt that this was all a ploy to get Silas on my side?

How do I get beaten up this badly just to get a man's attention? That seemed like something she would do but still a little too much.

"Did daddy finally decide that he didn't need you?"

I clenched my fists, the sting of her words making my heart pound.

She went low with that one, bringing my father into this when she knew I was clearly having Daddy issues.

She wanted a reaction, something she could twist, but I wouldnt give it to her.

"I'm not here to argue with you, Maria," I said instead, gritting my teeth.

She let out a laugh, throwing her head back.

I was tired of people laughing for no reason, and so I crossed my arms, waiting for her to finish.

Chapter 66

"Of course, you wouldn't You're too good at playing the victim. But just know this, Silas isn't as blinded by you as you think. I'll make sure of it," Silas? Blinded by me?

That was the most absurd thing I had ever heard, but I let her think whatever she wanted.

When she realized that I wasn't going to say anything to her, she brushed past me, leaving me standing there.

I turned as I watched her walk away, her hips swaying

Did she stop here just to ask me that and then walk away? I couldn't help but wonder as she walked out of sight.

How long had she veen standing tho?

I couldn't help but wonder.

After a few moments of gathering my strength, I continued on the way to the kitchen.

As usual. I felt eyes on me as I walked but none of them stepped in to say anything.

I could hear the whispers of each maha member I had walked past, their eyes following me as I walked.

"Can people stop staring at me, Texclaimed, plopping down on a stool close the counter.

Startled, Alisa turned to me with a jolt, her lips widened in fear. She hadn't heard when I had come in because she was focused on what she was doing.

"Kat-katrina?" She asked, her lips quivering

"Who else would it be? You didn't even come see after 1 got back I'm hurt I faked sadness, placing my

hand

my chest.

"No, it's not that way. Don't misunderstand. I've been busy and I was planning on coming soon, but I wanted to be done with what i was doing and... Her words came out in a tumbled rush and I laughed, raising my hands to calm her down.. Tm just messing with you, relax."

She immediately kept quiet, her eyes glistening with tears.

"Don't cr-" before I could finish my sentence, she closed the distance between wrapping her arms around me.

Do you know just how much I was worried when you didn't pick my calls. I feared Marcos might have hurt you terribly and I immediately went to Silas," She sniffled, tightening her hold and me.

My arms were stuck to my side, my brain blank.

She was... Worried about me...

I didn't know what to think about that, I didn't know what to say

I wasn't used to being worried about, and so I didn't know how to console her.

Slowly. I brought my arms up, wrapping it around her body.

Tm sorry I apologized.

What was i apologizing for? I had no idea

You're terrible at consoling people, and so awkward too, Alisa sported, raising her head off me and I chuckled lightly.

I couldn't ignore the pain I was feeling all over from when she threw herself at me but I couldn't complain either.

Realizing what she had done, the instantly pushed away from

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't thinking."

Bat I didn't mind so I told her it was alright.

"Silas looked scared when I told him you were in danger, Alisa whispered and my head stapped to her.

What

Silas Scared because of met

I bound that hard to believe and so I was unsure of what to say

"You think I'm lying don't you?" She asked and I shook my head

"I just had it hard to believe it all

She opened her mouth to say something but then closed it immediately.

Her eyes focused behind me and I spun around to see who she was looking at and why it made her stop talking.

Silas stood at the entrance of the kitchen, his eyes on us,

"Katrina, can I see you in my office?" He asked.

His face was blank so I wasn't sure what he was thinking.

I turned to look at Alisa and she looked as confused as I was

"Are you coming or not?" Silas asked and I immediately followed after him unsure of what he wanted.

I followed Silas silently to his office, maintaining a steady distance from him.

1 hadn't forgotten what Alisa was saying before Silas walked in.

He was scared?

I found that really hard to believe.

We got to Silas office and I sat on his sofa right before he could s down

His eyes fell on me but he said nothing, moving to his chair.

"How are you feeling?" He asked and I shrug

ged.

How was I feeling?

Tobviously felt like shit, but I didn't say that.

I guess you can say I'm okay. I replied instead

"Good enough to walk? You'd be following me out for an event tomorrow."

My head snapped to hun, my eyes widening in shock.
