Chapter 7

"Go after her Someone yelled from behind me, a dog barking lolly.

Did they send a dog after me? The distant barks were enough to answer my question.

My heart jumped at the thought of that, and just like that. I could see my chances of escaping dwindling.

It didn't make it better that I had no idea where I was running to but I wasn't going to give up just like that.

I picked up my pace as I ran off the pathway, running into the woods. It would be more difficult for them to replace me here and I would be able to escape too

The air was thick with the smell of damp soil and branches whipped against my skin as I ran.

But I didn't stop or slow down.

Whoever thought it would be a great idea to plant so many trees on personal property?

My legs ached as Iran, but I didn't stop. The sound of twigs snapping under my foot, mixed with the rustling of leaves and the distant shouts coming behind me.

I couldn't afford to stop.

I've tried running away from home before, but gather caught me almost immediately.

I can't relive the torture I went through that day, so I better not get caught

Putting the small knife I stole at the dinner table into my pocket, pushed myself further.

I had no idea where I was running to. I didn't know if I was going the right way or if there was a dead end. I just listened to the voice in my head telling me to keep going.

I could feel stone dig into my bare feet and I gritted my teeth in pain.

Running without shoes was not the best option, but I didn't own any that I could wear.

I've been indoors since I got here, and Silas didn't think it was wise to provide me with suitable shoes.

But then again, he didn't really think I was going to run away,

The voices behind me were getting louder and it was as if they knew exactly where I was and kept following me.

It felt like a game of cat and mouse and right now, I was the mouse.

"Don't think you can run from me,

little one. I heard Silas' voice echo from what seemed to be speakers, and I halted.

Where did that come from?

My eyes darted around the trees desperately, searching for any source of sound. It was dark, but I strained my eyes to see.

A light gasp escaped my lips and I took a step back in shock.

There was a tiny camera and speaker on a tree. I turned only just to replace an exact replica of it on another tree.

You wouldn't replace it unless you knew what you were searching for

He could see me but I couldn't see him. He knew exactly where I was and yet he hadn't caught me.

The realization that I never had the chance to escape hit me, and my heart sank.

It was like he was toying with the.

Turning to the camera, I raised my middle finger with a glare.

I was tired of everyone playing with me like I was some kind of chess piece. At least a pawn is useful in chess.

I wasn't useful to anything for them.

"You should know by now that there's no escape from here, Silas said from behind me and my back stiffened. When did he get here? I didn't even hear him. My heart raced in my chest, my eyes shaking.

Slowly, I turned around to come face to face with him, my body trembling slightly.

CH

Wondering if he could hear my fast-beating heart, Tried to stop my trembling fingers, clenching my hand tightly.

I couldn't help the gasp that escaped my lips when our eyes connected.

The moon rays fell on him, illuminating his figure. His hair was let down, falling to his shoulders in loose waves.

I wonder what it would feel like to run my fingers through it.

I couldn't help the thought that came to mind,

Realizing what I was thinking about, I shook my head to clear the thoughts, taking a step back.

"Go ahead and run. I'd still replace you, I felt chills run down my spine, Silas's cold eyes on me, waiting for my next move.

He stared at me, daring me to move. I could escape from him, but I never had the chance to.

And besides. I was legally married to him. The only thing that could do was die.

A thought came to mind and my lips pulled into a small smile. Fightened my grip on the knife handle, hiding it behind me.

I only had one chance, and if I missed it I would be dead."

Swiftly, I lunged at Silas, pressing the neck into his neck.

If I ran just like he asked me to, I would only be providing entertainment for him and his men.

I didn't want to be the source of their sick entertainment.

Silas stared down at me boredly, a brow coming up. His arms lay limply by his sides and he didn't even bother to stop me.

If he wanted, he could have grabbed my hands when I lunged at him. But he didn't.

Why?

"Careful, or you'll cut yourself, He sounded as if he was talking to a child, and it got me infuriated.

Silas's face held no emotions, his blank face staring at me like I didn't have a knife in

my hands.

He paid little importance to the small knife and stared at me like I held little significance.

Am act that fueled my anger even more.

Pressing the knife down on his neck, I smiled when it drew blood and I raised my eyes to meet his own.

He should have been scared, but he didn't show any reaction.

There wasn't a look of surprise on his face when I lunged at hitn, he didn't look as though he was scared with a knife pressed against his neck.

If anything, he looked interested.

What am I talking about! This was a mafia boss. He has killed countless and has been in a life-or-death situation plenty of

times.

Why would I expect him to be scared of me?

"It's right on your jugular, I could kill you now if I wanted, 1 threatened, pressing the knife down a bit harder.

I wanted him to be afraid, but Silas Morreti didn't look like one to fear.

I wasn't really going to kill him like I threatened, I just wanted him to let me go.

"Do you think you'd be able to escape if you killed me?" His brow came up as he asked. He stared at me like I was the stupidest girl he had ever come across, And maybe I was

Father has taught me never to threaten a mafia don, and yet I had gone and done it again.

In a flash, he grabbed my wrist, twisting my body and pulling me against him.

My ass was placed against his front, and my hand twisted, so 1 held the knife to my own neck.

His hands were wrapped around mine and I could feel my heart racing.

In fear or excitement! I had no idea.

"Now what do you think would happen if I slice your neck right here?" He whispered in my eyes, his breath warm against my skin, making my body tingle.

Taking deep breaths just to calm my racing heart, struggled in his hold.

When he pressed the knife deeper into my neck, I stopped moving.

I couldn't ignore the fact that my ass was pressed against his front and something poked me through his trousers.

Swallowing thickly, I sort for what to say.

I had a knife to my throat and yet I could still get the thoughts I was getting.

One day, my thoughts would be the death of the

"You wouldn't kill me though, would you?" I whispered back, taking the risk of turning my head to look at him.

The knife blade broke my skin, blood seeping through and I stopped the movements 1 made..

Silas wasn't someone to be trifled with that I've learned already. He doesn't make empty promises, nor does he forgive easily.

I have been locked up for a few days, and I learned that much about him.

I wasn't even certain about what my father had done to him to make him transfer his anger to me, but I knew he really hated my father.

And I wasn't sure if I wanted to replace out. I just needed to leave asoon as I could.

But he was my father's enemy, and an enemy an enemy

should be a friend.

Right? Wrong.

He married me to make my life hell just because he thought my father treasured me.

He didn't even look into the kind of man I was getting married to and just how well I was being treated all these years.

He just came in sweeped me off my feet, and forced me to get married to him.

Thinking about it made my blood boil.

To outsiders, I was trained to be the perfect daughter, hiding my bruises from the world.

But even the maids in the house didn't respect me because of how my father treated me.

And to think I was forced to get married to a man who treated me worse than my father did.

Staying here would only mean death and I very well wanted to live.

"Do you want to test that out?" Silas' voice sent shivers down my spine as he answered the question I had asked earlier.

uld be

He had killed one of his men who served him for how long, God knows just how easy it would be for him to kill me

I could barely think of the right words to say at this moment, my body refusing to move

He wasn't even holding me tightly but I knew that one wrong move and I would be choking on my own blood.

To say I was frightened would be an understatement.

Silas could easily kill me and get rid of my body and no one would care. To him, I was another person he killed.

"What? You won't beg me to let you live? Silas mocked, pressing the knife harder. 'Beg me to let you go," he ordered, waiting for me to grovel Does he get off the thoughts of me begging?

I raised my head up, trying to increase the distance between my neck and the blade.

He wanted to see me beg and grovel for my life. Wanted to see ine how my head low to him, but I refused to give him that satisfaction.

Bowing down to someone who would kill me was something I was never going to do.

And I was always known to be proud.

I would choke if I swallowed my pride and I wasn't going to do that.

If I died I would prefer dying with my dignity in tact.

The knife was removed from the neck and something hard connected to the back of my head.

My head started to spin, and I struggled to keep my eyes open. Istumbled, trying to get away from Silas

My eyes started to feel heavy, the darkness wrapping itself around me.

"Good night, princess,"
