The Mafia’s Good Girl – Chapter 31

~ Violet ~
Time seemed to pass so slowly for Violet. After the night Damon tied her up in the secret room, everything was a blur of nothingness. Her days were filled with anxiety, wondering when and what Damon would do to her in the night, and the nights were worse. She could never guess what he wants with her and how he wants it. He seemed to have endless ways and methods of torturing and breaking her apart. Violet had spent a total of six days since she got here but it felt like an eternity. Damon really wasn’t kidding when he said he would get three million dollars worth of her time.
Violet’s body, time, and energy were all spent to please Damon. To say that her body was sore through and through was an understatement. Yesterday, Dr. Lee came to check up on her and she was shocked at the number of bruises on her body. Violet thought that the doctor wouldn’t be surprised because she probably had dealt with these kinds of things before, but Dr. Lee was genuinely concerned for her. She went as far as telling Damon to stop any s****l activity for some time and give Violet’s body a chance to heal and rest.
Damon went and fired Dr. Lee after she said that. The fifty year old house doctor who had served the estate so loyally was sent packing that very night. Violet felt guilty for what happened, but Dr. Lee reassured her that it wasn’t her fault.
After Dr. Lee left the estate, Violet thought that her doom was coming since it was nighttime. But funnily enough, Damon followed Dr. Lee’s instructions even though he fired her. He didn’t call Violet into his office or showed up at her room unannounced. He didn’t touch her that night and the next day too. He really was giving her body a chance to rest and heal.
This should’ve made Violet happy, but she was still as restless as ever. She could never rest easy not knowing when Damon would ask for her next. It could be in an hour or in a day. The anticipation made every minute that passed was torturous and maddening.
And worse of all, Violet couldn’t see her mother and brother in this state. Dylan came around and offered to come to visit her, but Violet said no. If her mother and brother saw her with all these bruises and marks on her body, they would freak out. Violet couldn’t do that to them, so whenever Dylan called her, she pretended like everything was fine and she was just busy.
Violet tried her best to keep busy and distract herself. She would go read a book, take a walk around the garden, or have tea with Talia every chance she could. Talia was the one person that kept her sane in the midst of all this craziness. She was also so kind and understanding, patiently listening to Violet and her dilemmas like a therapist.
“I don’t even care about the money anymore at this point,” Violet sighed and slumped back at Talia’s couch. “Maybe I should just stop doing this? End the contract?”
Talia almost spat out the tea in her mouth. She quickly grabbed a napkin and wiped her lips. Putting her cup down on the table, she shook her head at Violet from side to side.
“No, Violet, that’s a big no,” she said.
“Why not?”
“Breaking a contract with Damon Van Zandt is not something you wanna do. There are consequences for that,” she replied, pausing for a beat before adding, “People have died from that,”
Violet rolled her eyes in response. He’s not actually going to kill me… is he?
“Whatever the consequences are, do you think it’ll be worse than what he’s doing to me right now?” Violet asked.
“Yes,” Talia said without hesitation. “Much, much worse,”
Really? What could be worse than this?
Violet’s lips turned to a frown and she crossed her arms. “So what do you suggest I do then? Just endure this for the next… 24 days?”
Talia let out a sigh. She thought for a moment before suggesting, “He told you to have a safeword, right? Why don’t you try using it?”
Violet thought about her safeword. No matter how rough Damon was with her, she never used the word once. It wasn’t because she didn’t want to use it, but she never got a chance to. The way he touched her was always so hypnotizing, Violet had no choice but to obey.
“I don’t think using the safeword would matter,” she said. “He’ll probably stop one specific action, but it’s not going to stop him from… breaking me in other ways,”
Violet put her head down and avoided Talia’s gaze. She never explicitly told Talia the things that Damon did to her behind closed doors, but she figured Talia knew enough. She had been living in this estate all her life and she had witnessed the slew of girls coming in and out of Damon’s office. This kind of thing was probably not new to her.
“It’s that bad, huh?” Talia asked.
Violet shrugged and sighed again. “I just feel so… used, you know?”
Of course, Talia wouldn’t know. She was happily married to the love of her life, Adrian. They had been in love with each other since they were sixteen. She wouldn’t know what it felt like to be used and abused like a ragdoll. She wouldn’t know what it felt like to have no control over her own body, to feel so dirty and violated.
“Like, I know this is just a job. I should just turn a blind eye and keep on keeping on,” Violet said again. “But the more I do this, the more I feel… like I’m dead on the inside,”
The worst part about this deal wasn’t the physical pain Damon brought on her, but the psychological aspects of it. Sure, there were moments of euphoria when the dopamine hits during an órgasm, but Violet felt like trash whenever Damon was done with her. She felt like her existence was reduced to nothing more than a s*x toy to please him.
Violet grew up in the Christian church and she often heard people say that s*x is only meant for the married couple. s*x was a holy act, a blessing from God. It was meant as something beautiful and it shouldn’t be perverted in this way. Though she grew up with this idea all her life, Violet never really understood this until she met Damon.
This is a mistake. I shouldn’t have made this deal. I should’ve never stepped into this hell.
“These days I don’t even feel like I’m a human,” Violet’s voice was cracking as she spoke. “And I know I’m still new to this whole s*x thing, but I don’t think this is how it’s supposed to be,”
Tears were brimming in Violet’s eyes and Talia put a hand on her shoulder, squeezing it in a supporting act.
“I’m really sorry for how he treats you,” she said, pausing for a beat before adding, “Damon… he’s got issues,”
Oh, he’s got more than issues.
“I don’t know how people do this,” Violet said as she wiped her eyes. “Maybe I’m just not meant for this kind of thing,”
Maybe no girls are meant for this kind of thing.
Talia gave her a sad smile and squeezed her shoulder tighter. “It’s only twenty-four more days, Violet. Hang in there. You can do this,”
Right… twenty four more days to go…
“Thanks for listening to me,” Violet said as she stood up from the couch. “I think I’m gonna outside and take a walk,”
“Do you want me to come with you?”
“No, it’s okay,” she shook her head. “I kinda wanna be alone right now,”
“Alright, well, see you tomorrow?”
“See you tomorrow,”
Violet nodded at Talia one last time before she headed out the door. Talking to Talia was nice, but it wasn’t enough. Violet needed a safe space where she could pour her heart out. So after she left Talia’s cottage, Violet found herself wandering to the old abandoned small church.
Violet stared at the cross adorning the roof for a moment before pushing the door open. The wooden creaked back and Violet stepped inside. The moment she stepped foot into the church, Violet felt a wave of emotion washing over her. She was reminded of her innocent self, the person she was before she met Damon, and she felt so much shame.
Violet burst into tears and her knees hit the floor. She kneeled in front of the cross at the altar and cried her heart out.
Forgive me, Lord, for I have sinned.
I’ve lost my way.
And now I don’t know where to go.

~ Damon ~
The demons, they’re coming for me…
Damon tossed and turned in his sleep as she heard a girl’s voice ringing in his ear. In his dream, he saw a girl in a white dress running into the forest. He couldn’t see her face, but she sounded familiar. Damon felt the urge to chase after her, and so he did.
Help me, Damon! Help!
The girl’s voice kept calling out for him. Damon ran as fast as he could to get to her. He slipped past the row of trees in front of him and ran with all his strength. He got so close and he almost touched her, but no matter how fast he ran, he could never reach her. She was always just an inch away too far.
I’m scared, Damon. I’m so scared.
“Isabella! Wait!” Damon yelled as he continued running.
The girl finally stopped and turned around to see him. But before he could get a good look at her, a loud banging sound was heard and she fell right to the ground.
* BANG! * BANG! * BANG! *
More shots were heard and Damon’s eyes widened in shock. He raced to replace the girl lying facedown on the dirt.
“No!” he screamed and bent down to get her.
Damon turned her body over and wiped the hair covering her face with shaky hands. Her eyes were shut closed and there was b***d covering her long white dress. Damon put his hand on her cheek and shuddered when he felt how cold her skin was.
“Isabella!?” he screamed again, hoping that she would wake up.
After a few moments, the girl moved a little and Damon was instantly relieved. She was struggling to open her eyes.
“Damon…” the girl could barely speak. “Help me…”
The girl’s hand reach up to touch Damon, but before she could do so, her hand fell limply to the ground.
“No! Isabella!” Damon shook and wrapped her body in his arms tighter. “Hold on, I’m gonna get some help,”
“Don’t leave me,” she said softly. “I’m scared…”
Damon’s heart was breaking into pieces as he held the love of his life dying in his arms. He could see the life draining out of her skin and there was nothing he could do.
“Don’t go,” he said as he held her face close to him. “Please…”
The girl used all her strength to open her eyes and gave Damon one last smile. Her eyes were the most beautiful shade of purplish-blue. Damon was caught off guard when he saw it.
Violet?
The girl then closed her eyes again and she was gone from this world. No matter how many times he shook and moved her head, she was not responding. She was dead.
“NO!” Damon yelled and his body jerked up.
He was sweating, his heart was racing, and his breathing was ragged. Damon took a look around and realized he was sitting on his bed, alone in his room. He wasn’t in a forest and there was no dead girl in his arms.
Fúck.
Damon took a moment to calm his breathing before getting up from the bed. He went to the bedside drawer, grabbed a tube of pills, and poured them into his hand. He swallowed the pills and washed them down with some whiskey. Damon felt much calmer after that his heart was going back to its normal pace.
Damon turned to the clock and saw that it was 3 AM. It was too early to wake up now, but there was no way he was going back to bed. Damon wandered aimlessly to the window, checking to see the situation outside. Everything seemed normal and there was nothing out of the blue, but then his eyes landed on the small church out in the garden and he noticed the door was slightly ajar.
No one’s supposed to go in there!
Not wasting another second, Damon went to grab his gun and he exited the room. His steps were full of conviction, he looked almost angry. He went straight towards the church and pulled the gun out in front of him.
“Who’s there?!” he demanded.
There was no light inside and the only source of light was through the small broken windows. Damon stopped his tracks and saw the figure of a woman kneeling by the altar. She turned her head around but he couldn’t see her face. Damon pulled his lighter out and flicked the fire, and he realized who she was.
“What are you doing out here?” he asked.
Violet was staring back at him with a look he couldn’t decipher. Her eyes were wet and they looked tired.
How long has she been in here?
Damon took a step closer and put his gun away. Violet didn’t move or say anything, so he spoke up again. “Shouldn’t you be in bed, sleeping?”
Violet shook her head lightly and said, “It’s hard to sleep when your heart is at war with your mind,”
Keeping his eyes locked on hers, Damon kept walking until he was standing at an arm’s length away from her. Then he bent down to her level and cócked his head to the side.
“Why is your heart is at war with your mind?” he asked.
“Because I don’t know who I am anymore,” she replied, her voice was slightly cracking. “Because you broke me apart, Damon,”
Damon was taken aback. He wasn’t expecting this kind of answer. He was frozen for the longest time. He couldn’t do anything but stare into her eyes. There was a glimmer there and it made him feel a certain way. He didn’t know it then, but it was at that moment that something inside him broke apart too.
