The Mafia's Good Girl
The Mafia’s Good Girl – Chapter 51

~ Violet ~

The first thing Violet noticed when she opened her eyes was the darkness. She was sitting down but she couldn’t move her hands or feet. There was something covering her head and face, something like a burlap sack.

Oh. Crap.

Violet replayed what happened several hours ago. She was in the back of a cab, inside the Holland tunnel, and the driver filled the car with smoke until she passed out.

Who is that guy? What does he want with me?!

Though she couldn’t see anything, Violet could hear voices talking in the room. She recognized one of them to be the driver. Her first instinct was to panic, but she knew that wouldn’t be wise, so she stayed completely still pretending like she was still passed out.

“You sure no one followed you here?” a man said.

“I’m sure,” the driver replied. “There was one car following us, but I lost him in the tunnel,”

“Good job, man,” another guy said. This one’s voice was raspier. “Here’s your cut,”

“Thanks,” the driver said.

Then there was a beat of silence before the raspy voice said, “What are you still doing here?”

“What are you guys gonna do to the girl?” the driver asked. “I mean if you don’t mind, I’ll stick around and watch,”

“Ha, you want in on the action, huh?” the other guy laughed.

Action…?

“This is a private party, Mario. Go replace some other place to jerk off,” Raspy replied.

Wait… what?

Moments later, there was a sound of metal doors being opened and closed. Violet assumed that the driver had left because only the two guys were talking now.

“Damn. We got lucky,” one of them said.

“There’s no such thing as luck,” the other replied. “We were there at the right place and the right time,”

“So, you got the girl,” suddenly there was a female voice talking. “What now?”

Her voice sounded familiar too. Violet could’ve sworn she had heard it before. But where?

“We set the trap and wait until he shows up,” Raspy said.

“I told you guys, it’s useless, he’s not gonna look for her,” the girl scoffed mockingly. “She’s just another one his whores, she means nothing,”

Wait… that’s… Sabrina’s voice!

“I have a feeling this one’s different though,” the other responded.

“Yeah,” Raspy laughed. “You’re just being salty ‘cause she’s the one who got you kicked out, huh?”

“Whatever, I was bored out of my mind every day in that prison anyway,”

Yes, that is Sabrina. Unmistakably.

Violet gasped instinctively and that was a mistake. Her body was moving slightly and the guys seemed to notice it.

“Yo, I think she’s waking up,” one of them said.

Violet’s heart was beating fast as she heard footsteps approaching her. She held her breath and pretended to still be unconscious, but it was no use. One of the guys pulled the burlap sack from over her head and the harsh fluorescent light from above struck her eyes.

“Rise and shine, princess,” Raspy said, smiling menacingly.

Violet pried her eyes open and saw two guys and Sabrina standing before her. The two guys looked very similar except for their hairstyles. They must be brothers. Behind them were several other guys dressed in black. Violet had been around Damon and his men long enough to know that these guys were most likely part of a mafia family.

Violet was sitting down on a chair with her hands and feet tied up. She was in the middle of the room and everyone’s eyes were on her. All of them were inside some kind of old factory warehouse. The walls were red bricks and there were no windows. There was one metal door on one side of the walls and that was the only access in and out.

“Dark hair, nice eyes,” one of the brothers said he studied Violet’s face. “He definitely has a type,”

“Yeah,” the other one agreed. “She could be my type too,”

“Get in line Luca,” Raspy laughed. “The oldest has first dibs, alright?”

“Screw you, Leo,” the other rolled his eyes.

Luca… Leo… where have I heard these names before?

“I hope she does,” Leo smirked, shooting a look at Violet.

Violet was frozen stiff. These guys were looking at her like she’s a piece of meat. She was so confused and overwhelmed. Scared to her very bone.

“W-who are you?” she croaked. “Where am I?”

“Yeah, like we’re gonna answer that,” Leo laughed.

“Look, you don’t need to know who we are. Just know that we’re very dangerous and very angry,” Luca added. He sounded a lot calmer than Leo.

Violet didn’t know what was happening. Who were these people and what did they want with her? Her gaze then traveled to Sabrina who had been watching silently on the sideline.

“…Sabrina,” she said.

“Oh, look, she recognized you,” Leo said.

“Whatever, who cares?” Sabrina rolled her eyes.

“Still being salty, I see?” Leo laughed again.

“I’m not being salty,” Sabrina argued, but clearly she was. “Seriously though, why are we even keeping her? Let’s just kill her off. He wouldn’t know the difference,”

“She’s an asset to us, we can’t just kill her off,” Luca interjected. He then put a hand on Sabrina’s shoulder and she calmed down. She rested her head on his chest and linked her arms around him. Sabrina was staring down at Violet and smirking triumphantly.

Violet realized that Sabrina must have been working with these guys after she left Damon’s estate. Maybe she was jealous of Violet and that was why she was so vicious. Talia did mention Sabrina was a very scornful girl.

And while thinking of Talia, Violet remembered a story she told her once. It was about the Maranzano family. Victor Maranzano had three sons. The oldest were twins, and their names were Luca and Leo.

Wait, they are Victor Maranzano’s sons…!

Violet’s eyes widened in shock at the realization. The Maranzano family was Damon’s number one enemy. They almost succeeded in eradicating the Luciano family if it wasn’t for Damon who took over. These two warring families wouldn’t stop at anything until one of them was completely wiped off the earth.

And now they have me… which means…?!

“Hey, don’t look so scared,” Leo said, catching the fear in Violet’s eyes. “We’re not gonna hurt you if you’re nice to us,”

“Yeah, we just wanna ask you some questions,” Luca added.

“W-what questions?” she stammered.

“Straight to the point,” Leo commented. “I like her,”

“We know that you went to Italy with Damon Van Zandt,” Luca ignored his brother and remained serious. “He was meeting a lot of important people out there. What is he planning to do with all these connections?”

“I… don’t know what you’re talking about,” Violet said.

“Oh, come on. Don’t make it harder on yourself,” Leo spoke in a threatening manner. He also started walking circles around her, his gaze was dark and hooded.

“Yeah, just tell us the truth and we’ll let you go,” Luca said.

“But lie to us and there will be consequences,” Leo continued.

Violet realized that they took her to get information. She knew about Damon’s alliance with Hugo DeSantis and how they were working together to bring down the Maranzano family. This was a crucial piece of information with very big consequences. If she told them this information, that could mean Damon and Hugo’s downfall. But if she didn’t tell them, they might just hurt her…

“I…” Violet started to speak, but she couldn’t continue her words. “I really don’t know,”

The best thing for her right now was to tell these guys about Damon’s plan, but Violet couldn’t bring herself to do it. She had no problem seeing Hugo DeSantis being brought down by these people, but she didn’t want that for Damon. She couldn’t betray him, even if that meant her safety was in danger.

“You know what I think?” Luca said as he studied her face. “I think she’s lying,”

“I’m not lying!” Violet defended herself, trying to sound as convincing as possible. “Damon never told me anything about his business,”

“Damon?” Luca narrowed his eyes. “You two are on a first-name basis?”

Oh, shoot! I shouldn’t have said that!

“Not even you get to call him that, right?” Leo laughed tauntingly at Sabrina’s expense. Sabrina rolled her eyes again, ignoring him.

“He must like you a lot. He keeps you around, brings you to Italy, lets you call him by his first name,” Luca brought the tension back to Violet. Violet couldn’t say anything in response. A lump was stuck in her throat.

Standing right in front of her, Leo tilted her chin up and said, “Look, things are gonna be a lot easier for you if you cooperate with us,”

“Yeah, we have no reason to hurt you. You did nothing wrong to us,” Luca added.

“But your boyfriend, on the other hand, killed our brother,” Leo said.

“Which means he has to pay,” his brother continued.

The two guys were glaring daggers at Violet and she realized how serious they were being. This was more than just mafia business, it was personal. Her knees started to shake and she wondered if they’d ever let her out of here alive.

“Come on, just tell us,” Leo pressed. “What do you know about him and Hugo DeSantis? Are they friendly? Are they working together on something?”

Violet’s brain was telling her to speak, to tell Leo and Luca everything and beg for them to let her live. But her heart couldn’t do it. She promised Damon she wouldn’t tell a soul.

“Why are you being so stubborn?” Luca sounded irritated. “Stop protecting him. He can’t do nothing for you here!”

Violet closed her eyes and Damon’s face came to her mind. She wished so much that he was here. If he was here, he would’ve saved her so easily.

Damon… tell me, what should I do…?

“She’s not gonna break it seems,” Luca said after a while of silence.

“Well, I can help with that,” Leo snickered.

Violet’s eyes jerked open as she felt Leo’s hand landing on her shoulder. His gaze was making her uncomfortable and it made her wish she could close her legs further, even though her legs were already tied together.

“Last chance. You really don’t wanna tell us?” Leo asked, and he gave her a moment to respond. But when Violet was still radio silent, he let out a sinister smile and said, “Alright, it’s your funeral,”

Before Violet could say anything else, Leo took the burlap sack and yanked it roughly down her face. She couldn’t see anything anymore, but she felt two strong hands lifting her off the chair and throwing her over his shoulder.

“Don’t damage the goods, Leo,” Luca said. “Not too much at least,”

~ Damon ~

“You’re walking into a fúcking trap!” Adrian yelled from over the phone.

Adrian was still in Italy, finishing up their last meeting when he heard about Violet’s kídnapping and Damon’s mission to get her back. Damon and his men were now huddled a few blocks down from the warehouse in question. They were waiting for more reinforcement to come from all over New Jersey. Some families from Pittsburgh and Philadelphia also came to his aid. In total, he gathered about sixty men and countless guns and armors.

“You don’t know how many people he got in there,” Adrian tried to reason with him. “Or what if you go in there and they light the place up like we did his brother?”

“Well, then I guess we’re all dead,” Damon’s response was cold and unforgiving. Adrian couldn’t tell if that was a joke or not, but it sounded too serious to be a joke.

“Damon, as your consigliere, I’m advising you to stand down,” Adrian said with a long sigh. “Let them take her. Once they found out she doesn’t have much information on our alliance with Hugo, they’ll let her go,”

“And what if they don’t?” Damon argued. “Do you wanna be responsible for her life?”

“It’s collateral damage, Damon. Happens all the time,” Adrian said.

Damon paused for a beat before deciding, “Not this time,”

Not giving Adrian any more explanations, Damon turned off the call and threw his phone inside the car. Then he stepped outside and greeted the army that was waiting for his orders.

“Boys,” he said to all of them, and they all waited at his every word. “I know a lot of you gathered here because I called you, I hired you, or I asked for your help. But what we’re about to do here is dangerous. Some of you might not come back alive, or maybe all of you won’t,”

Damon threw his gaze at the sea of people to see if any of them flinched, but none of them did.

“I don’t know how many people they got in there, I don’t have a plan, and I’m not about to wait for any more reinforcement. I’m going in,” he declared. “Now, I’m not going to ask you to give your life for me. If you don’t want to do this, if you want to go home to your wife and kids, you do that. I’m not going to stop you,”

Damon waited to see if any of them moved, but none of them did.

“But if you’re ready for hell and you want to do this with me,” Damon’s lips twitched into a smirk. “I won’t forget it until the day I die,”

“Boss,” one of his men spoke up. “We’ve been ready for hell since day one,”

“Yeah. These people killed our family,” another one said. “No one messes with our family,”

“All in favor of going in say aye,” Beau led the charge by lifting his hand.

“Aye,” everyone said in unison.

It was a beautiful moment. A sea of guys were pledging their lives and alliance to Damon and his cause. As for Damon himself, he was never afraid of death since the beginning. Death was only an old friend and he was already dying to meet him anyway.

“Alright then, boys,” Damon said with a proud smile on his face. “Take two seconds to say your prayers, and let’s bring ‘em hell,”
