The Mafia's Good Girl
The Mafia’s Good Girl – Chapter 55

~ Damon ~

Violet opened her eyes and found Damon staring right at her. She gasped in shock and pulled away instantly. She was staring at him in disbelief, not knowing how to react. But Damon, on the other hand, was as cool as a cucumber.

“Who said that you could stop?” he said, though his voice was weak and coarse.

“Damon?!” she gaped. “You’re awake!”

Violet’s hand went to cover her mouth and her eyes were filled with tears. Happy tears. She stared at him for another moment, and once she got a good enough look at him, she lunged her hands around his neck to hug him.

Damon stifled a laugh and stroked her hair in response. “Wow, are you that happy to see me?” he said.

“Of course,” she sobbed into his chest. “I’ve missed you so much,”

Damon smiled and held onto her tighter. “I’ve missed you too, sweet girl,”

Hearing him calling her with that name, Violet sobbed even harder into his chest. Damon realized how Violet must be so worried about him. The last thing he remembered was falling asleep with her next to him outside that warehouse. Then he saw flashes of being brought into Dr. Lee’s home and Dr. Lee doing an emergency surgery to get the bullet out. The anesthesia must’ve been very strong because after that moment, he was completely knocked out for days.

Damon didn’t remember much about the days when he was out. He might’ve had some dreams, but he couldn’t remember any of them. Sometimes he overheard snippets of conversations, but he couldn’t tell which ones were real and which ones were dreams. And even right now, he had to stop and look at her face for a while to make sure that this wasn’t a dream.

How lucky am I that your face is the first thing I see and your lips are the first things I taste?

“…It’s been three days and we’re all waiting for you to wake up… Adrian… Talia…” Violet said in between her sobs. “And I was so scared that you weren’t gonna…”

Damon pulled her face up and kissed her forehead reassuringly. “Ssh, it’s okay,” he cooed. “I’m here now,”

Violet’s lips twitched into a smile and she wiped her tears away. Studying his face and body, she then asked, “Do you feel okay? Should I get Dr. Lee?”

Damon shook his head and smiled. Holding her face in the palm of his hands, he told her, “I feel perfect,”

Violet’s smile grew wider and her cheeks blushed bright pink. Damon took a good look at her face and body, and then he noticed the bruises weren’t healing.

“Hey, you didn’t get these treated?” he said as he pulled the sleeves of her sweater up. “Let me look at them,”

Violet pulled her sweater sleeve back down and took a step back, clearly avoiding him.

“No, it’s fine,” she shook her head. “It looks worse than it actually is. It doesn’t even hurt anymore,”

Damon let out a long sigh and stretched out his hand. Violet paused for a beat before putting her hand on his. He pulled her closer to him until she sat down next to him on the bed. Then he pulled up her sleeves again and noted the dark bruises all over her arms and body.

“What did they do?” he said through gritted teeth.

“Damon,“ she sighed.

“I need to know,” he said rather sternly. “What did they do to you?”

Violet was reluctant to speak, but Damon wasn’t taking no for an answer. She threw her gaze down and stared at the floor. Her eyes became glassy as she remembered the things that happened that night.

“…They asked about you. About your relationship with Hugo DeSantis and why you were in Italy…” she trailed. “I didn’t tell them anything and Leo started using his whip…”

“But you knew I was working with Hugo,” he said matter-of-factly. “Why didn’t you tell them?”

“Because I promise you I won’t,” she said.

“But they—!” Damon stopped himself before he was shouting too loud. “They could’ve killed you,” he said in a calmer tone.

“But they didn’t,” she argued. “They almost—“

“They almost what?” he asked when she couldn’t finish her sentence.

“They almost raped me, but you came right before it happened, so…”

“Fúcking hell, Violet!” Damon g*****d in anger and frustration. It was hurting him to speak so loud, but hearing her say those words hurt even more than the bullet wound.

Why do you have to be so good to me?

“Are you mad at me?” she asked cautiously.

“Am I mad at you?” he asked back. “No,” he said firmly.

Oh. You’re just too good to be true.

Using all the strength he had, Damon pulled himself up until he was sitting up on the bed.

“I’m mad at them though. I’m gonna kill them all,” he said as he reached for her face. There was a clear bruise on her cheek and it was making his b***d boil even more. “Every last one of them, I’ll send them all to hell,”

Violet let out a small smile and rested her face into his hand.

“I think you already did,” she said.

No. Not quite yet.

Damon pulled her face closer and planted a quick k**s on her lips. After pulling away, he let his thumb graze her chin and he noticed the small cut on the side of her lips. Damon clenched his jaw instinctively and staggered to get up from the bed.

“What are you doing?” she asked in protest. “Dr. Lee said you should rest,”

“Rest is only for the dead, not for the living,”

“But—“

“I can’t rest until all of them are burning in hell,” Damon said in a firm and commanding tone.

Violet couldn’t say another word because she knew she couldn’t change his mind. She only stared at him with a worried expression as he stretched his hand out to her.

“Come on,” he said, asking her to take his hand. “We need to get those bruises treated,”

Much to her protests, Damon insisted that he was fine and he wanted to take her to see Dr. Lee. Dr. Lee was staying at one of the cottages in the back garden and it was a long walk away. Damon wasn’t strong enough to walk that far, he was already out of breath trying to get to the door.

Finally, Violet agreed to go to her room and call Dr. Lee to come and see her. Damon didn’t want to go back to his room to rest, he insisted that he waits until Dr. Lee was done.

Dr. Lee came in minutes later and she did a full body examination on Violet as she lay on the bed. Damon was watching everything while sitting back on the corner chair.

“Physically, I think you’re fine. Luckily there’s no internal damage to your organs,” Dr. Lee concluded after a thorough check-up.

Violet was putting back her clothes and Damon watched her like a hawk. His eyes zeroed in on all her bruises and she couldn’t help but feel bad. The bruises didn’t actually hurt that much compared to the pained look on Damon’s face.

“But, I’d still like to monitor the cuts for signs of infection,” Dr. Lee continued talking. “I’ll come back tomorrow for more tests, okay?”

“Okay,” Violet nodded her head.

Violet thought that the check-up was done, but Dr. Lee suddenly put her hand on Violet’s arm to see something. Violet was caught off guard and she ended up flinching away when the doctor touched her.

“I’m sorry, does that hurt?” Dr. Lee asked.

“No,” Violet replied. “I just…”

I just don’t want anyone to touch me.

Violet didn’t know why she flinched back. The same thing happened when Dylan tried to touch her last time. After that night at the warehouse, every time someone touched her, she remembered the feeling of being groped by Leo and it was making her skin crawl in response.

“It’s alright, Violet. It’s normal to feel some kind of trauma after what you’ve experienced,” Dr. Lee said as if she knew what Violet thinking.

Damon stood up from his seat and walked closer to Violet. She looked up at him and smiled, and he smiled back. Putting a hand on her shoulder, he squeezed her gently and somehow it made her feel a lot better.

Anyone but Damon.

Dr. Lee collected her bag and medical kit. She told Violet to rest before heading to the door. Damon walked her out and Violet could hear a little bit of what Dr. Lee was telling him.

“…She just needs to rest. The ointments will help heal the physical wounds, but as for the trauma… it’s going to take some time…”

Violet let out a long sigh and lay back on the bed. The moment her head hit the pillow and she closed her eyes, she immediately felt at rest. She didn’t remember the last time she slept on a bed. For the past few days, she was sleeping on that chair next to Damon’s bed. It felt so nice to finally lay her head on a comfy bed and pillow.

I think I’ll just close my eyes for a second.

That second turned into minutes and it didn’t take long before she drifted into sleep. Violet was already deep in her sleep when she suddenly felt the bed dipped. Then she felt two arms wrapping her body and Violet flinched in response. Her eyes jerked open and she was about to scream, but then she saw Damon’s warm brown eyes staring right at her.

“Damon?” she croaked.

“Ssh,” he cooed and kissed her head. “Just sleep, baby girl. I got you,”

Violet’s body relaxed instinctively. She rested her head on his chest and inhaled his familiar scent. Feeling safe and warm, Violet held tightly onto his arms and fell back into a peaceful sleep.

When Violet opened her eyes next, it was daylight outside and the first thing she saw was Damon’s sleeping face. She noted his sharp jawline, that gorgeous nose, and lashes so long they should be illegal.

Violet’s lips curved up a smile and she snuggled deeper into his chest. Damon must’ve felt her moving because he stirred in the bed and slowly opened his eyes.

“Hey,” Violet greeted him.

“Hey,” he smiled back.

Violet noticed that he was grimacing as he smiled, and then she realized she was putting her body weight on his wound.

“Oh, no!” she gasped and jerked away. “Did I hurt you?”

“No,” he said and he pulled her closer again.

“I’m sorry,” she said. She was wiggling to give him some room.

“Don’t move,” Damon hissed and gripped her body tightly against his. “Just stay with me,”

“Damon…”

“Stay here,” he said. “With me,”

Damon was talking about her staying in bed, but Violet heard the double meaning behind it. It sounded like he was asking her to stay forever.

“Okay,” Violet nodded her head at him. “I’ll stay,”

Damon’s lips curved up a smile and he put a hand on the side of her face. He stroked her chin gently and his eyes pierced into hers. His gaze was normally dark and serious, but this time it was warm and tender. That made the butterflies in her stomach flutter hard.

“What?” she asked him. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“I…” Damon opened his mouth to speak, but he stopped himself from continuing.

Violet just raised her eyebrows and waited for him to continue. Damon then started smiling from ear to ear. It was like he knew something she didn’t.

“What?” she pressed again, looking up at him in confusion.

Damon stifled a laugh leaned his face down to her. He captured her lips with his and kissed her slow and tenderly. Violet let out a sigh and she started kissing him back. After not being able to k**s him for so long, Violet felt like she could finally breathe again. Her hands clung onto his chest and his hand pulled her face up so he could k**s her deeper.

“I love you, Violet Rose Carvey,” he said through the k**s.

Violet gasped in shock and pulled away, but Damon wasn’t having it. Smirking victoriously, he pulled her back down and closed the distance between their lips, sealing her fate with another k**s.

“I love you so much, my sweet girl,”
