The Mafia's Good Girl
The Mafia’s Good Girl – Chapter 63

~ Violet ~

The dress Violet ordered online came right on time before New Year’s Eve. Since going out shopping with bodyguards was a big hassle, she opted for online shopping instead. Violet picked this gorgeous silver sequin long dress with slits on her thighs and matching heels. When they finally arrived, she was worried that the dress size might not fit her right, but when she tried it on and the dress fitted perfectly, she knew it was about time to slay.

Making her way down the long staircase, Violet took slow and careful steps in her new Manolo Blahnik heels. Talia, who spent all morning getting ready with Violet, walked behind her in a red Gucci dress and black pumps. Meanwhile, the guys were all ready with their sharp black tuxes, waiting for the girls downstairs.

“Alright, who’s ready for a party?” Talia squeaked happily, causing Damon and Adrian to look up.

“Oh, fúck me,” Adrian chuckled, wearing the biggest grin on his face as he stared at his wife.

“Don’t mind if I do,” Talia winked and planted a quick k**s on her husband’s lips.

Violet noticed how Damon’s eyes were glued on her, and he looked as if he had been struck by lightning. Walking towards him, she blushed a little as his mouth was gaped open.

“Hey,” she said.

“Uh, hey, wow…”

For the first time ever, Damon Van Zandt was stammering. He just kept staring at her, blinking rapidly, and swallowing hard.

“What is it?” she asked him. “Are you okay?”

Damon stifled a laugh and shook his head.

“No, I think you just gave me a damn heart attack,”

Violet’s cheeks burned hotter and she threw her gaze down to the floor. This wasn’t the first time Damon ever complimented her, but every time he did, it always got her stomach flipping and knees shaking.

Now you’re giving me a heart attack.

“Ready to go?” Damon said as he stretched his hand out to her.

“Yes, sir,” she took it gladly and they walked hand in hand towards the door. Talia, Adrian, and all the other guys followed closely behind them.

“Hey, wait a second, are all of us going?” Talia asked when she saw all of Damon’s men exiting the house. Only Elena and the maids were left behind. “Why is no one guarding the house?”

Damon and Adrian exchanged a knowing look. Talia gave her husband a confused stare but Adrian kept silent and he continued walking to the cars that were waiting for them.

“Is no one gonna tell me anything?” Talia pressed again.

“Do you know how magicians do magic tricks?” Damon said to her. Clearly, this wasn’t the response she was expecting.

“What?” she responded, still looking very confused.

“They’ll tell you to focus on something while they do something else behind your back,” Damon explained rather cryptically. Opening the car door for Violet, he waited until she got inside the car before closing the door and turning to Talia. “We’re gonna be doing a little magic trick tonight,”

That was all that Damon was willing to tell them. With a bright smile playing on his face, he walked around got inside the car, and the row of black SUVs drove out of the estate.

Violet had never been on a yacht before, certainly not one that looked like the Titanic. After about half an hour of driving, the cars pulled up at a private dock where this huge ship was waiting for them. Violet’s eyes were wide as saucers as she made her way into the boat. She felt like she was transported into a Hollywood movie set as everyone was dressed like movie stars, smiling, and laughing with glasses of champagne in their hands.

“It’s some party, huh?” Adrian commented as they stood watching the people standing around the rooftop deck.

“It’s whatever,” Talia rolled her eyes dramatically. She knew that Violet felt uneasy around Hugo and she was trying to be supportive. If her best friend hated the party host, she was going to hate the party too. “We’re only here for an hour, right?”

“Yeah…” Adrian said as he checked his watch. “About an hour or so,”

“And then we can leave?” Violet asked Damon.

“Of course,” he said reassuringly.

Violet and Talia exchanged a relieved glance. The less time she could spend with Hugo DeSantis the better. No matter what Damon felt about him, Violet still refused to trust the man.

“Holy— Is that Robert DeNiro?” Talia gasped as she pointed to a man with greying hair, talking to one of Hugo’s men. Violet turned her head in the direction and saw the great actor laughing merrily.

“Yup, and there’s Sarah Jessica Parker,” Adrian pointed to the beautiful blonde lady standing across from them.

“Oh my God, I watched every episode of s*x and the City, she’s my idol!” Talia was full-on fangirling now, forgetting that she was supposed to not enjoy being here.

“You wanna go say hi?” Adrian asked.

“Can I?”

“Why can’t you?”

Not giving her a chance to back out, Adrian pulled Talia’s hand and they walked over to Sarah Jessica Parker. Adrian greeted her and he did most of the talking as Talia froze in her spot. The lovely actress seemed nice and friendly, and she even shook Talia’s hand. Talia was giggling and started babbling. Violet couldn’t do anything but watch in somber silence as her best friend completely forgot about her.

“So, what are we supposed to do here exactly?” Violet said with a sigh.

“Nothing, we just have to enjoy ourselves,” Damon shrugged.

Yeah, like that will happen.

Violet didn’t know how she could enjoy herself at Hugo DeSantis’s expense. She couldn’t even drink the alcohol because she was underage. And everywhere she looked, she felt anxious that Hugo would pop in at any moment.

“Boss,” Liam whispered into Damon’s ear. “One o’clock,”

Just as she feared, Violet looked up and saw Hugo walking across the boat. He was heading into one of the VIP rooms inside the ship. There was also another man walking behind him, and as soon as Violet saw his face, she went completely pale.

“D-Damon, is that…?”

“It’s starting,” Damon nodded and turned away.

Violet looked at him with a horrified look on her face. After her kídnapping, Violet got a crash course about the Maranzano family from Talia. She even went on Wikipedia to read all about Victor Maranzano. Violet saw pictures of Victor on the internet, and the man walking with Hugo DeSantis was him.

That’s Victor Maranzano…

Damon gave Liam a knowing look and Liam nodded his head. Within seconds, all of Damon’s men dispersed into various directions. Violet watched in confusion as they seemed to be marching with a designated purpose.

“Hey, what’s happening?” she asked.

“Relax, it’s all part of the plan,” Damon said simply.

What plan?! Is there gonna be a full-on war on this ship?

But before Violet could express her concerns, Damon had pulled her hand and led her to the dance floor.

“Can I have this dance?” he said, pausing to see her reaction.

“Here? Right now?” she gaped.

“There’s no time like the present,”

Damon didn’t give her a chance to say anything else. Putting her hands on his shoulders, he then put his hands on the small of her back and started swaying their bodies together.

Damon seemed cool and calm, while Violet couldn’t comprehend how they were slow dancing under the moonlight with his mortal enemy roaming the ship. All of his bodyguards were also out of sight, which would be bad if Victor’s men appeared out of nowhere.

“Damon, are you gonna tell me what’s going on?” she pressed, looking worried and nervous.

“Sssh, just dance with me,” he said.

He skillfully twirled her body around and caught her when she came back to him. For a moment, Violet forgot that they were in the same boat as their enemies. Damon’s body was moving with such style that she couldn’t help but smile. She also felt the urge to show him what she got, so she swayed her h**s and moved in a way that got him to smile.

“I didn’t know you’re such a good dancer,” he said.

“I did ballet as a kid,” she replied. “What’s your excuse?”

“Isabella made me take lessons for our wedding dance,”

Violet’s smile instantly fell flat.

“Oh,” she muttered.

“We never got to do it,” he said with a half-smile.

There was bitterness about the way he said it, but his eyes remained cool like it didn’t faze him. Then as if something caught his eyes, Damon turned to look to the end of the ship. Violet followed his gaze and saw several men dressed in black suits entering the VIP room.

“Damon?” she asked.

Damon turned his gaze back to Violet and smiled.

“I told you that everything would be done today, so here it is. I’m delivering that promise,” he said.

“What are you talking about?” she stared at him quizzically.

Meanwhile, people in the background started cheering as the countdown was about to begin. They were being so loud that Violet had to shout her question.

“10… 9… 8…”

Everyone started counting in unison and Violet felt the atmosphere turning chaotic. Drunk people were shouting all around and everyone was moving to get to one side of the boat where they could see the firework show.

“Count with me,” Damon said as he cupped her face with his hands. “5… 4… 3…”

Violet didn’t understand what was happening. She wanted to turn her head to the side, but Damon kept her face looking straight right at him.

“…2… 1…”

The crowd roared in cheers and shouts. A triumphant smirk was playing on Damon’s face as he closed the distance between their lips.

“Happy New Year!”

Violet closed her eyes as Damon’s lips landed on hers. He kept his hand on both sides of her face as he deepened the k**s. His k**s was hot and demanding, and Violet couldn’t do anything but surrender completely to his demands.

* BANG! * BANG! * BANG! *

Violet’s eyes jerked open as she heard the loud booming sound in the air.

“What was that?” she asked, pulling away.

“The fireworks,” he said as he turned her body around. “Magical, isn’t it?”

The firework show was starting and the bright colors burst into the sky. Violet’s eyes were open wide and a smile crept up her lips. Damon stood right behind her and he put his arms around her waist, pulling her close.

“Oh my God…” she gasped in disbelief. The fireworks were so big and beautiful, they demanded her full attention.

“Just keep looking at the sky, sweet girl,” he whispered to her ear.

* BANG! * BANG! * BANG! *

Don’t look anywhere else.

The fireworks continued and the thunderous sound filled the air. Damon kept his eyes on Violet as she kept hers to the sky. She was absolutely mesmerized by the show, but he was only mesmerized by her.

“Happy New Year, angel,” he said once the fireworks died down and everyone clapped and cheered. Tilting her face to the side, he placed a quick k**s on her lips and smiled.

“Damon…” Violet looked like she wanted to say something, but she didn’t continue.

“It’s over now. Everything’s done,” he said.

Violet narrowed her eyes at him and turned around, fully facing him. Damon just kept smiling and he tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear.

“No one will hurt you ever again,” he stated matter-of-factly. “And nothing can stop us now,”

Violet was staring at him like she wanted an explanation, but he didn’t say anything. On the corner of his eyes, Damon saw a group of his men walking out of the VIP room. Liam was amongst them and he stopped and stared at Damon. They exchanged a knowing look and Violet caught it too.

That’s right. Happy fúcking New Year.

“Is it really over?” she asked him, sounding rather cautious.

Damon gave her a reassuring smile and said, “It’s nothing but the past now,”

Violet let out a sigh of relief. Her eyes turned glassy as this was making her feel emotional. But Damon, on the other hand, was more than just relieved. An enormous weight had been lifted off his shoulders and he felt ecstatic. All those years of plotting and hard work finally paid off. It felt absolutely liberating.

Rest in peace, Isabella. You can rest easy now.

For five years, this revenge mission was all that Damon could think of. He didn’t have any other life purpose except for this. But everything changed when Violet came along. She gave him hope and vision for a life after this darkness.

And now that it’s over, it’s time for a new chapter.

Damon grabbed two champagne glasses from a waiter who passed by and he gave one of them to Violet. She took the glass happily and smiled as he raised the glass to her.

“Here’s to our future,” he said.

“To our future,” she agreed.
