The Mafia's Good Girl
The Mafia’s Good Girl – Chapter 70

~ Violet ~

“So, Damon and I met at a fashion show three years ago when he first visited Italy to meet my dad,” Celina said with that bubbly tone. “I was modeling for Armani at the time. We hung out at the after party and we became friends,”

Violet rolled her eyes internally and Celina smiled proudly. She told stories after stories about her and Damon and Violet didn’t what the purpose was. Was she trying to get her jealous?

And why is it working…?

As Hugo, Damon, and the other guys went into the study, Violet and Talia were stuck with Celina in the living room. Elena brought out some tea and snacks and Celina seemed to be enjoying herself. However, the same couldn’t be said about Violet. She tried her best to stay polite and answer questions, but her eyes kept going to the second floor to see if Damon and the others were done.

“Anyway, Damon’s the best,” Celina continued. “My dad even said that he’s better than Joe Luciano in his prime,”

“Your dad must really like Damon,” Violet commented.

“Oh, we love Damon,” Celina gushed. “The DeSantis and Van Zandt family will be an ally for a long time to come,”

Oh God, I hope not.

Celina didn’t catch the awkward expression on Violet’s face as she was too busy talking. Violet gave Talia a quick glance and Talia could only shrug.

“So, how did you and Damon meet?” Celina turned to Violet again as she sipped her tea.

“We met at a bar downtown,” Violet answered. “I was working a shift there and he came with his guys,”

“Wait, you worked at a bar?” Celina scoffed and she started looking at Violet up and down. “As like a… waitress?”

“No. A bartender,”

Celina blinked a few times before muttering, “Oh,”

Her voice was so condescending, the ‘oh’ sounded more like an ‘ew’. Celina was clearly looking at her with a judgmental look and Violet couldn’t help but feel insecure. Celina was a gorgeous girl, she was even a model. She met Damon at a lavish event, they’d probably have fancy dinners and parties together. But Violet, on the other hand, was just some bartender working at a local bar. She didn’t wear heels or diamonds like Celina, and the circumstances that brought them together were nowhere as glamorous. Violet’s mind started going places and a difficult question popped into her head.

Wait a second. Were Damon and Celina ever a thing…?

“Do you wanna know the story of how they got together? It’s pretty romantic actually,” Talia spoke up suddenly, pulling Violet’s train of thought. She was referring to Damon and Violet’s love story.

“Of course,” Celina said. “Spill the tea,”

“Oh, no. It’s totally not romantic at all,” Violet interjected, shaking her head.

“But it is,” Talia argued. “You see, when Damon and the guys were at the bar, somehow the cops got tipped off and they had to escape. Violet here saved everyone. She helped Damon escaped the cops and boom! He fell in love with her and the rest is history,”

“That’s not exactly how it happened, but okay, I’ll take that,” Violet laughed. She was afraid Talia would bring up the whole thing with the contracts, but of course, Talia knew better.

“It’s pretty romantic, right? Just like in the movies,” Talia said to Celina.

“Sure,” Celina didn’t sound convinced. “The mafia king and the waitress. Sounds like an epic love story,”

Celina continued sipping her drink with an innocent smile but Violet was fuming. She knew Celina said it on purpose like she was taunting her. Violet clenched the cup in her hand and Talia gave Violet a ‘please calm down’ look.

Take it easy, Violet. Take it easy…

“Hey! It’s almost dinnertime. Let’s go get changed,” Talia said quickly to ease the tension. If it wasn’t for Talia pulling Violet away, Violet might’ve jumped at Celina and a whole fight would break loose.

Violet really didn’t want to go to this dinner. Not only that her family’s arch nemesis, Hugo Desantis, would be there, but Celina was not Violet’s favorite person in the world right now.

Standing inside the closet, Violet went through the row of dresses wondering which one to wear. And then she remembered how pretty Celina looked in her dress and she wondered if Damon noticed it too. Without her realizing it, Violet’s eyes grew green with jealousy.

“Hey,”

Suddenly, she heard a familiar voice and whipped her head around. Damon was standing at the doorway, he was about to get ready too.

“Hey,” she said.

“Are you going with that one?” Damon was referring to the dark blue satin dress Violet was holding. “I’ll get a tie that match,”

Damon went to the tie drawer and Violet stayed still as she held the dress in her hand. She had mindlessly picked it out, having zero excitement about the dinner.

“Damon,” she said with a sigh.

“Yeah?” he replied, pulling a matching tie out.

Putting the dress down, Violet stood in front of him and stared into his eyes. Damon gave her a confused look as he waited for her to speak.

“I need to ask you something and you have to answer honestly,” she said.

“Okay,” he replied, sounding rather cautious.

“Were you and Celina ever a thing?”

“A thing?” Damon looked absolutely taken aback. “What do you mean?”

“A thing, you know,” she muttered. “Like… dating,”

“Hell no,” he scoffed.

“Or not even dating, did you ever sleep with her?” she pressed on.

“Slee—Fúck no!” Damon looked disgusted and clearly offended by this question.

“Really?”

“I never saw her that way,” he grimaced. “She’s just a little kid,”

“She and I are pretty much the same age,”

“But that’s different,”

“Different how?”

Damon didn’t answer right away. He narrowed his eyes at Violet and knew something was up. She was not usually the jealous and angry type, unless provoked.

“Sweet girl, why are you so upset?” he said with a sigh. He then grabbed her face with his hand and pulled her close. “Listen, there is nothing going on with me and her. Ever,”

Violet could see the sincerity in Damon’s eyes. She believed him when he said nothing ever went down between him and Celina. But still, Violet wasn’t thrilled about this whole situation.

“Hey, I know why you’re so upset. You never like Hugo and they just came unannounced, ruining our day off,” he said again, resting his forehead on top of hers. “I’m sorry,”

Violet took one look into Damon’s dark piercing eyes and all that anger faltered away. His eyes told her that he also didn’t like this situation, he’d much rather be in that playroom with her instead of here, picking out ties for dinner.

“Why are they here, Damon? And why do we have to have dinner with them?” she sighed.

“The dinner thing came out of nowhere, I don’t know what to do either,” he shrugged.

“You can’t tell them to leave?”

“That’s bad manners, baby. Hugo doesn’t like that,”

“So you care about what Hugo thinks and not me?”

Damon exhaled and pulled away slightly.

“Listen, it’s only business. You don’t have to come to dinner if you don’t want to. I’ll tell them you’re not feeling well,”

Violet thought about the idea for a moment. It would be nice for her to skip dinner. She’d much rather stay in and watch Bridgerton on Netflix than hear Celina calling her a waitress one more time.

“But that means you’ll go to dinner with them without me,” she frowned.

“Well, yeah,” he said. “But it won’t take long. It’s only dinner,”

Violet’s stomach fell to the ground as she thought about Damon, Hugo, and Celina having dinner together. She could imagine Celina sitting next to Damon. She’d laugh and giggle at everything he says and maybe she’ll put her hand on his body. The b***d in Violet’s body boiled at the thought. Suddenly, staying in and watching Netflix was not an option anymore. She couldn’t possibly let Damon be alone with those people.

“No,” Violet said firmly and shook her head. “I’ll go,”

“Are you sure?” Damon asked cautiously, confused by her sudden change of attitude.

“Yeah, it’s only business, right?” she said as she grabbed the dress. “I’m still not happy about it, but there’s no way I’m leaving you alone with that fox!”

“Fox?” Damon narrowed his eyes in confusion. “You mean Hugo?”

Violet and Damon came down the stairs moments later. She was wearing the blue dress and he was wearing the matching tie. They looked like an absolute power couple, beautiful, and radiating with confidence. The people that were waiting downstairs couldn’t help but look up in awe. Violet noticed that Celina was also looking at them, and she tightened her grip around Damon’s arm.

If this dinner is business for Damon, it’s business for me too!

“Where’s Hugo?” Damon asked when he noticed that Hugo and his men weren’t in the living room. Only Celina was there with Talia, Adrian, and Damon’s other guys.

“Dad just left,” Celina answered him. “Oh, I get sick easily riding in dad’s convertible. I was thinking if I can ride with you guys to the restaurant,”

Is she seriously batting her eyelashes at my fiancé?

“Sure,” Damon shrugged nonchalantly. “Everyone ready?”

“All set, boss,” Liam answered.

Violet didn’t know what came over her, but she felt the need to show Celina who was boss here. Suddenly and without warning, she stopped Damon from moving and put a hand on his cheek.

“Wait, you have something on your face,”

Damon stood in silence as Violet rubbed his cheek. There wasn’t anything on Damon’s face, but she just felt like touching him. She was taking her time on purpose too, making sure Celina was watching. And as everyone’s eyes were on them, Violet stood on her tippy toes and planted a k**s on his lips. Damon was caught off guard at first, but he quickly returned the k**s when he got the chance.

“Hmm—what are you doing?” he asked, he was pleased about the k**s but shocked all the same.

“I’m marking my territory,” she said simply, not giving him any other explanation. She then rubbed the lipstick mark on his face, but she didn’t wipe them all the way, making sure it was visible for other people to see it.

Damon could only stare at her in confusion as the other guys in the room cheered and clapped for them. Everyone in the room was cheering except for Celina. She just rolled her eyes and looked away.

That’s right, look away. He’s mine and mine alone.

With a triumphant smile playing on Violet’s face, she grabbed Damon’s hand and said, “Let’s go,”
