Originally, when the attacking soldiers realized that there was completely no resistance to their charge, they thought that the enemy had already been maimed by the rounds of artillery bombardment and that it would be impossible for them to launch any effective resistance anymore.

Therefore, all of them began relaxing their vigilance, and all of them simply thought about rushing up in one go so that they could take Hamed's base out completely with just a single charge.

But who would have imagined that just when they thought that this was a battle that they were bound to win, a large number of machine-gun muzzles suddenly erupted from the rocky crevices on the high ground on the mountain!

The entire mountain was rife with the sound of gunfire, and the soldiers rushing in at the front fell down like rows and rows of wheat.

All of the soldiers at the back were stunned!

They raised their guns in a hurry because they wanted to return fire, but they could not see anyone at all!

The only thing they could see was the muzzles that were coming out from the rocky crevices everywhere.

And whenever they saw the muzzles coming out of the crevice, there would be a group of people who would get hit by the bullets coming out of the muzzles before falling to the ground.

In less than a minute, the attacking party had already lost at least five or six hundred soldiers.

Some of the soldiers subconsciously returned fire in the direction of the muzzles, but their weapons had no practical effect on Hamed's permanent fortification at all. 6

At this moment, the frontline commander shouted out for the soldiers to replace cover as soon as possible.

However, what was most damaging was the fact that Hamed had already asked his men to deal with all of the possible hiding places on the mountain slope a long time ago. All of the previous portholes had been filled up, and all of their previous boulders had already been blasted into pieces directly. 2

In short, these thousands of people who were on the mountain slope at this time simply could not replace any shelter to avoid these bullets! 1

And Hamed's troops were still firing back frantically from inside the permanent fortifications!

His troops were heavily armed with a large number of Russian-made weapons. Each permanent fortification was equipped with multiple 7.62mm caliber aircooled Russian PK general-purpose machine guns as well as a handful of 12.7mm anti-aircraft heavy

machine guns. 2

The former had a fast firing rate and wide coverage of firepower that was very lethal to ordinary soldiers after multiple machine guns formed a cross firepower network.

Although the latter had a slower firing rate, it was extremely powerful, and it was basically very deadly. What was even more ruthless was that when there were many people, the penetrating ability of this weapon would far exceed that of an ordinary machine gun, and one shot could easily penetrate the bodies of several soldiers.

The combination of these two weapons in this kind of highland battle was simply invincible. In addition, the enemy simply had no place to hide at all, and thus, they were completely passively beaten and defeated. 4

As these enemies wanted to charge, they had made the mistake of underestimating their enemies, and they did not carry any heavy equipment with them at all. At this time, their firepower alone was already completely different as compared to their opponent.

The greater disparity lay in the fact that the attacking party was completely defenseless and could only use their bodies to fight the bullets.

However, it was different for Hamed's soldiers. They were all hiding in the permanent fortifications that were constructed out of rocks and concrete. The front of the fortification was also reinforced with steel plates, and at the same time, there was also a layer of soil covering it from the outside. When the bullets hit the fortification, it was just like a mosquito biting an elephant, and there was no lethality at all.

When their frontline commander saw more and more soldiers falling down around him, he realized that their opponent was already long prepared and that it would be impossible for them to withstand such a strong attack. So, he shouted immediately, "Retreat! Retreat to the back of the armored vehicles!"

So, the remaining three to four thousand soldiers began fleeing frantically.

With this retreat, the soldiers who had already rushed to the front exposed their backs completely to the range of Hamed's soldiers, and so, they lost several hundred more men as they retreated.

All of the soldiers retreated to the back of the armored vehicles, and the frontline commander immediately began counting the number of people.

Very soon, the attrition was reported from each company. Five thousand men had launched a charge, and one thousand and three hundred men had died at one go.

Amongst them, there were more than five hundred mercenaries from Ten Thousand Armies.

Ten Thousand Armies had sent ten thousand mercenaries to Syria this time. 2

In principle, these people would have to obey the command of the Syrian government and cooperate with them in the extermination of the antigovernment forces. 3

The Syrian government had split these ten thousand mercenaries from Ten Thousand Armies, and these ten thousand men had been divided into four equal parts so that they could cooperate with the four divisions of the government in a multi-faceted manner. 4
