The Many Faces of Tully -
The Prophecy
March Sixteenth. On this day, a Great Evil will rise. She will murder millions, level cities, destroy towns, and obliterate metropolises. She will be a danger to the country of the United States. No one is safe from her powers.
I wake with a start. I’m breathing heavily and shaking uncontrollably. Jace is already sitting up with me.
“Are you okay? Were you having another nightmare?” he asks me, putting his arms around my shoulders protectively. I’m still gasping for air and I realize that I am sweating profusely. Do I have a fever?
“No. I don’t know.” I shake my head, trying to clear it. The voice is still ringing in my ears, 'On this day, a Great Evil will rise’. I check my watch and its 12:01 in the morning. Today is March 16th, the day of our battle. “Did you hear that?” I ask him.
“Hear what?” He rubs his face to try to wake himself up some more.
“Th-the voice? The…” I flounder for a word, “Prophecy?” I think that describes what that was. She will murder millions.
“A prophecy? What are you talking about, Tully?” He groans as he stretches his arms above his head.
“I heard- It was- I…” No one is safe from her powers. I climb out of bed. “I can’t sleep anymore,” I tell him.
The voice said she, her. The great evil is a girl. Not a boy like they all seem to think she is. Just like they thought I was a boy, too. Something clicks together in my head and I go numb all over. I can feel my powers spread throughout my body and take over my limbs, my mouth and my mind.
“Do you want me to get up with you?” Jace asks us, pulling the covers off of him.
“No, thank you. Try to get some sleep. Today is going to be a long day. I’m just going to go get something to eat or something. Drink some coffee,” my powers tell him.
He leans back, his eyes glazing over just slightly. My powers did that to him. They put clothes on my body, straightening my necklace and adjusting my belly button ring. They tuck my hair behind my ear, showing off the earring as they lean in and kiss Jace goodbye. They let me look over him one last time and leave.
The next thing I know is that I am in the middle of a flea market. It's inside a large, abandoned industrial building. It's dark and musty and loud. It's nearly dawn, no sunlight filters through the cracks in the ceiling and the flickering lights hardly ease the darkness. There is a lot of shouting, bargaining, haggling, and fighting going on. How did I get here?
I search my memory and I see myself taking a Taxi, and then walking into the flea market. It’s still chilly outside, and hardly warmer on the inside. Despite the cold, the flea market is busy. Hundreds of people, all around me. She will murder millions, rings through my head again and I feel my power building inside my chest.
My heart starts beating faster from the pressure on it, and I start gasping for air because of the pressure on my lungs. The power keeps building up though, until it fills my chest, and I finally understand why it’s so painful. The pressure of my insides as the power fills up any space inside by chest warrants pain.
I look at all the people around me, walking around me, going about their own business. They aren’t doing anything wrong, but they feel wrong to me. Something about them feels dark to me. This isn’t a flea market, it’s the black market. These are all criminals. That’s why they feel bad to me.
My powers smile in anticipation. My heart is beating too fast now. Soon, it’ll stop. They might be criminals but they don’t deserve to die. My powers think otherwise. They are the judge and the executioner.
When my heart stops I can feel them rejoicing. Just like the time when robber attacked Jace and I, they yearn for the death that's about to come. They force me to breathe out and I explode. It's chaos. Bodies and stalls fly away from me, smashing into the thin metal walls, denting them. One side starts to collapse.
I killed everyone here... I could I do that. These people had families, loved ones, husbands, wives, children, parents, and I killed them all. They’ll never know what happened to them. No one will understand what happened here. What strange occurrence killed all of these people.
Jace! Nash! Calchas! They’ll understand what happened. They’ll know what I did. Will they know that I am the Great Evil though? How will they replace out? How will they fight me?
My powers erase the thought from me. They take over my mind completely and I can’t even fight it. They are stronger than I am. I just sit here and watch them terrorize the world, sinking in and out of consciousness.
I feel myself turn into a rhinoceros and ram cars on a busy street, steadily heading away from the busy town. To which I am grateful for. I can’t hurt anyone if I’m not near them.
When I come to again I take in my surroundings. I’m in a large field. Quite possibly the field I’m supposed to be at today to help defeat the great evil. I try to recall how I got here but nothing comes to mind. I look around and no one is here. Where is everyone?
My arms start moving by themselves suddenly. I put my pointer finger up and start twirling my wrist around as if I’m trying to tell someone to spin around. I watch as miraculously a tornado starts to form from the tiny air current I’m creating. I keep twirling my wrist and the tornado gets bigger and bigger, blowing my hair around wildly, and whipping my clothes around but I stand solidly on my feet.
When I’m satisfied with the size I blow at it. It starts to move away from me. I know where I’m sending it. It’s going northwest, heading towards Canada and hitting every state it possibly can before then. I watch as it blows slowly away, leaving destruction in its wake. I smile in approval and turn towards the east.
There are a lot of large cities in that area. I think an earthquake would do a good job at leveling them. I lift up a foot and hold it up for a little bit, feeling the power build up inside of me. When it’s getting too painful I stomp my foot into the ground, shooting the force forward towards everything in the east. The ground rumbles forcibly away from me and I nod at my handiwork. I turn around and face the west now.
I can feel the ocean over there and I know a tsunami would do perfectly. I start pushing and pulling, copying the motions that Hutsi does when he is creating waves. I can feel the water building with my motions, back and forth, back and forth, until a huge wall of water is formed. I give one final pull as hard as I can, pulling the tsunami towards the west coast.
I face the south now. What destruction should I cause here? A storm. Thunder and lightning. Pouring rain and softball sized hail. I start thinking of the most wretched things possible. Anything horrible that I could think of pops into my head and I can feel the clouds rolling together above. Building up into a black wall of gloom with thunder rolling through it, and lightning ready to flash down. It gets heavy with rain and hail and I force it away from me too, still steadily building into a large enough storm to cover all of the south.
I stand in the middle of my field and listen to the destruction and terror I have caused. People are screaming, crying, or taking their last breaths. Buildings come crashing to the ground or are torn apart. My tornado rips everything from the ground, tossing them into the air before they come crashing back down to the earth. My earthquake splits the world apart, pulling buildings, cars, and people into the crevices. My tsunami floods everything, tearing apart towns and families, leaving everything soaked and destroyed. And my storm flashes lightning so bright that it’s blinding. The thunder is so loud that it’s deafening. The rain starts to flood the streets and the hail breaks glass, dents cars and makes holes in the roofs of houses. My chaos is beautiful.
In the midst of my marveling at my glorious creations, I notice something. In the past five minutes people have shown up in my field. I can feel their presence dimming my revelry. I want them to leave. They don’t belong here. They don’t agree with what I’m doing. They need to leave. I open my eyes to confront them.
