Chapter 1370 To Beat Her At Her Game
"But, the Timber Deity Empire's defensive line is stronger than that of the Holy Dragon Empire and the Magic Phoenix Empire. I'm afraid that we can't break it so easily," Marcia said worriedly.
"That's why I asked the West United Army to ambush Magic Phoenix Empire's Heavenly Dragon Border. Alyssa is confident in Timber Deity Empire's defensive line. Therefore, once the Magic Phoenix Empire is attacked, she will mobilize troops to support the Heavenly Dragon Border. In this way, there will be fewer troops guarding Timber Deity Empire. I also asked Chief Bryant to besiege the Timber Deity Empire's White Dragon Slope. This step will pin down the spiritual race army Alyssa placed there to guard that line of defense. Once the spiritual race army is restrained, it will be difficult for the enemies to resist the attack of the United Army, no matter how solid the Timber Deity Empire's defensive line is," Rocky explained. Confidence oozed from his every word.
Relief coursed through Marcia as she heard his clarification. Rocky seemed certain of their results in the upcoming battle.
A few days later, all deployments were ready as per Rocky's orders.
Isis led one group of the West United Army to launch a strong offensive at the Timber Deity Empire's and the Magic Phoenix Empire's borders. As instructed, they stalled half of the troops guarding the Magic Phoenix Empire.
Simultaneously, the other group of West United Army, which had been instructed to ambush the Magic Phoenix Empire's Heavenly Dragon Border, snuck into their territory. With lightning speed, they destroyed two camps and then attacked other bases.
Soon, the Magic Phoenix Empire found itself besieged on two fronts.
After receiving news of the invasion, Alyssa responded by quickly gathering fifty thousand soldiers from the Timber Deity Empire to support the Magic Phoenix Empire.
Even before she could relax knowing that she had handled that crisis, Bryant led the East United Army to launch a fierce attack on the Timber Deity Empire's White Dragon Slope. The White Dragon Slope was located on the northwest border of the Timber Deity Empire. The territory was barren and sparsely populated. Moreover, it faced the end of the Wild Spirit Land. Almost no army was willing to travel thousands of miles to battle under such conditions. Therefore, Alyssa only sent a small army to guard the area.
Rocky had perceived such a reaction from Alyssa's troops, which was why he commanded Bryant to lead the East United Army to attack the White Dragon Slope. Once the spiritual race army reached the White Dragon Slope, it would be difficult for them to return quickly should other places be attacked.
Since fifty thousand soldiers of the Timber Deity Empire had been transferred to Magic Phoenix Empire, there were no extra troops for Alyssa to mobilize to defend against the East United Army led by Bryant. However, Alyssa had expected such a situation. And, so she arranged for a contingency wherein the spiritual race army would guard some critical positions, thereby allowing them to retain their mobility. Once the East United Army launched a fierce attack on White Dragon Slope, Alyssa did not hesitate to mobilize five hundred members of the spiritual race to support that front line.
The spiritual race army had unparalleled mobility. Although support was expected to reach within a few days, the spiritual race army arrived in a day and two nights. Thus, they could join the others to defend against the East United Army led by Bryant. As an added measure, Alyssa dispatched troops from other fronts to the White Dragon Slope to stop the attacks of the East United Army.
While she was occupied with these military strategies, the South United Army led by Rocky and Marcia approached an essential strategic position of the Timber Deity Empire. This strategic position was two days' journey away from the White Dragon Slope, and the spiritual race army sent to reinforce the defenses at the White Dragon Slope had been transferred from this strategic position. When Rocky and his troops arrived, only about ten thousand soldiers were guarding this strategic position.
"Basil, the spiritual race army has been moved from here. Should we finish the battle as soon as possible?" Marcia asked Rocky as she studied the topographic map.
"No." Rocky shook his head unexpectedly.
Marcia immediately glanced at him, confusion evident in her expression. The East United Army and the West United Army had successfully drawn Glory Army's mobile forces and a part of the spiritual race army. At present, this strategic position was only guarded by humans. With the South United Army's strength, it was easy for them to control this strategic position. However, Rocky did not intend to finish it quickly.
Of course, Marcia also knew that Rocky must have other thoughts, and so she looked at him with the expectation that he would explain.
"Do you believe that Alyssa would only leave just over ten thousand soldiers in this strategic position? Don't underestimate her. Since she has sent the spiritual race army to the White Dragon Slope, it means that she has enough confidence to defend this strategic position," Rocky said unhurriedly. It was almost as if he knew what Alyssa had thought when she mobilized the troops.
"You mean this might be a trap?" Marcia asked as her beautiful eyes narrowed.
"It must be a trap," Rocky said with certainty.
"If you knew what Alyssa was thinking, then why did we try so hard to lure the spiritual race army away from this strategic position?" Marcia asked, puzzled.
"We have to beat her at her game. Alyssa can easily guess what is on my mind. Her understanding of me is no less than yours, especially on the battlefield. So, Alyssa can guess any of my plans, especially in such a large-scale action. I wouldn't be surprised if she could also imagine my purpose," Rocky replied calmly.
"Then how can we fight this battle? If Alyssa has set an ambush here, then once we attack, will we throw ourselves into the trap? Doesn't that mean that we are doomed?" Marcia glared at Rocky. She didn't understand why he was not worried at all.
"Haven't you always been very smart? Why have you suddenly become so stupid? Who said we must fight this battle?" Rocky asked as a sinister grin tugged at the corners of his mouth. "What? Are we not going to fight?" Marcia was even more confused now.
"No. We just need to wait. When Alyssa can't hold back, then we will get our chance to take action." Rocky nodded.
"But our time is limited. What if Alyssa brings other troops there?" Marcia asked.
"If Alyssa wants to get her revenge, she will never let go of such a good opportunity." Now it became clear to Marcia that Rocky intended to use himself as bait to lure Alyssa into his trap.
Upon hearing that, Marcia was at a loss whether to laugh or to cry. Although Rocky was no longer the same person she once knew, in some aspects, his nature remained the same, such as his willingness to risk his life. Of course, with Rocky's current strength, few people could hurt him. And so, there was no need to worry.
Meanwhile, several miles away from the South United Army's hiding place, a commander walked into a camp.
"Commander in Chief Alyssa, the patrol team just reported that they found traces of the United Army four miles away," he reported to Alyssa, who was deploying tactics with several commanders. "Really? I knew Rocky wanted to lure the spiritual race army away from White Dragon Slope, which is why he first attacked the Magic Phoenix Empire and forced me to transfer Timber Deity Empire's mobile forces there. Then he instructed the East United Army to attack the unimportant White Dragon Slope and forced me to send the spiritual race army there as support. All the while, he intended to seize this strategic position and fracture Timber Deity Empire's defensive line," Alyssa sneered.
Just as Rocky expected, Alyssa had already guessed his plan.☐☐
