The Medallion
Chapter 1373 Unable To Escape

"So, we're not going to chase them?" the commander confusedly asked.

"Well, if we don't chase them, they will have a chance to regain their strength. We are already short on our soldiers too. If we continue to defend, our defense line will be broken through sooner or later. So, we must attack instead of defending ourselves. Give me one thousand soldiers who are willing to follow me. Then ask several commanders to lead their own troops and be on standby. On my signal, we will immediately launch a surprise attack all at the same time. This will take the South United Army by surprise!" Alyssa explained. She seemed to have taken control of the whole situation already. Although she knew that Rocky must have set a trap for her, she still planned to push through with the ambush of the South United Army. She would fight against Rocky to death. That was how much she hated him. In fact, Alyssa had planned to fight to the end from the very beginning. She would rather fight till there was no soldier left than let Rocky break through their defensive line and take this strategic position. Because once the South United Army's plan failed, the whole United Army would fall into a greater predicament.

With that, Alyssa led one thousand soldiers to chase after the retreating South United Army. The other commanders also quickly gathered the remaining soldiers, leaving five thousand soldiers to guard the camp. The rest followed closely behind Alyssa, waiting for the opportunity to act.

Meanwhile, Rocky led the rest of the South United Army to retreat all the way back to their base. However, the speed of their retreat was rather slow. When Alyssa and her army caught up with them, they had only retreated for less than a mile.

When Rocky saw that Alyssa chased after them with her troops, he smiled wickedly. He knew that she fell into his trap in the end. He knew that Alyssa would suspect that the South United Army had set an ambush, and that she would play along and seize the opportunity to finally defeat him. So, it was completely within his expectation that Alyssa would come after them. Besides that, he was sure that Alyssa was the perfect bait. The enemy's major forces would come if the ambush of the South United Army were prevented.

Yet, the smart Alyssa didn't realize that she missed one important thing. Rocky was also a bait. His real purpose was to lure out the enemy's remaining forces and let Marcia take the opportunity to attack and seize the enemy's military camp.

Of course, what Rocky did was putting himself in a dangerous situation. He had less than ten thousand soldiers left, while the enemy was almost in full force with at least twenty thousand soldiers. With Alyssa's strength, even Rocky could not use such a small number of soldiers to turn the tables. So, there was no way that he and his remaining soldiers could defeat them. They had no way to retreat and the only thing they could do was to buy more time so Marcia could lead the army to successfully occupy the enemy's military camp.

Before long, the soldiers led by Alyssa finally arrived. With that, Rocky and the South United Army immediately stopped.

Seeing that Rocky had suddenly stopped, Alyssa guessed that Marcia and the rest of the South United Army must have been hiding nearby. So, she waved her hand and signaled for her soldiers to stop as well.

"I didn't expect you to really chase after us," Rocky coldly said as he stared at Alyssa.

"Well, it's because I don't want you to run away like this," Alyssa snapped.

"Aren't you afraid that I set an ambush and I'm just waiting for you to fall into the trap?" Rocky menacingly sneered.

"I don't care about that. I still need to try," Alyssa answered without showing any fear. She was not only not afraid, but also anxious as she waited for Marcia and the rest of the South United Army to show up. In this way, she would at least have a chance to fight against the South United Army to the end.

"It's really a pity that you are not smart enough. I think there must be more than twenty thousand soldiers behind you, ready to launch a surprise attack at any time. The twenty thousand soldiers should be almost all of your soldiers. If my calculations are right, then there are only a few thousand soldiers left to guard your camp," Rocky slowly said as he stared down on Alyssa.

"Wait, what do you mean?" Hearing this, Alyssa immediately felt that there was something wrong.

"I didn't plan to fight you from the very beginning. I know that with your ability, if we fight head-on, I don't think the South United Army will win even though we have more men. That's why I halted and patiently waited for you to make the first move. Then, you were impatient enough and deployed your men just as I hoped. I did what you expected which was to let the South United Army launch an attack when they were forced to do so. You really waited for the attack with ease. And by taking advantage of the terrain and the defensive line, you defeated the South United Army and made them retreat," Rocky frankly said. "So, all my actions were within your expectations." As soon as Alyssa heard that, she knew that Rocky had already seen through her mind completely, just as she could see through his.

"Well, my ideas were within your expectations too, weren't they? However, you still made a huge mistake. You correctly guessed that I would set an ambush, but you wrongly expected that this ambush was aimed at you. The truth is..." Rocky trailed off as he wickedly smiled and then looked towards the direction of the enemy's military camp.

Almost at the same time, fireworks suddenly lit up from the enemy's military camp.

Following Rocky's gaze, Alyssa saw that their military camp seemed to have been attacked. She suddenly realized that she indeed made a grave mistake. She didn't expect that Rocky's target was not her but their military camp.

Alyssa knew that once their military camp was occupied, they would lose the terrain and defense line's advantage. If the two armies were standing on the same running line, the South United Army would have the upper hand especially with their advantage in military strength.

"So, what's the big deal if you occupy the military camp? If Marcia is leading the army to occupy the military camp, then you don't have any support now." Alyssa knew that Marcia was worthy of being regarded as the queen in the battlefield. However, she immediately judged the situation and found out the biggest weakness in Rocky's plan. He led an army with less than ten thousand people who were in a state of helplessness now. If she gathered her forces and went all out, the South United Army led by Rocky would be annihilated.

"Yes, you're definitely right. If you want to get your revenge, this is probably your only chance. Of course, it depends on whether you can kill me or not," Rocky calmly said. He had used himself as a bait to lure Alyssa right into the trap.

Alyssa already knew that the military camp would be occupied by Marcia. It was better to destroy Rocky and his men first than to send the troops back to rescue the military camp. After she dealt with Rocky, she would try to gather some troops from the other positions to encircle the South United Army that occupied the military camp.

So, without any hesitation, Alyssa ordered her people to send out the signal.

Soon enough, nearly twenty thousand soldiers swarmed over from three directions. In the blink of an eye, they encircled Rocky and his men. Even if they had wings, Rocky and the South United Army would be unable to escape.☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
