The Medallion
Chapter 1455 The Surprising Attacks

The martial spirit was caught off guard upon the sudden attack that was hurled at it. Before it could even react, the Spirit-restricting Disk already hit it. The next moment, countless spiritual marks spread all over its body and bound it tightly, rendering it motionless. No matter how hard it struggled to break free, it couldn't get rid of the restrictions made by the spiritual marks.

"Great! It worked perfectly! That was easier than I expected," Uriel said excitedly. It was obvious that he was surprised at the turn of events. Although he had already captured a lot of martial spirits in the past, this was his easiest catch ever. Normally, he would fail a dozen times first before he could finally land one.

But of course, even though the martial spirit was now under their control, this didn't mean that they had fully succeeded in their mission. After all, someone among them should be able to match it. Otherwise, al their efforts in catching it would be worthless, and they would need to look for other ones.

Immediately after, Rocky and the others surrounded the bound martial spirit.

"Hurry up. Make turns fusing your spiritual power with the martial spirit to see who would succeed to be its master. Who will go first?" Uriel asked his team.

"I think we should let Miguel try it first," one of the warriors at the King Realm immediately proposed, trying to ingratiate towards Miguel.

At the same time, several of them expressed their agreement. Miguel was an elite disciple whom the Sword Spirit Sect had a lot of expectations on. Besides, he was the adopted son of the sect leader; thus, there was a huge possibility that he would inherit the position one day. Hence, everyone wanted to be on his good side.

"You guys flatter me..." Miguel replied. However, despite what he said, he didn't really care about them. At the back of his mind, he thought that he obviously deserved to be treated this way.

Then, he stepped forward. With brimming confidence, he shot out a stream of spiritual power and tried to merge with the martial spirit. But not long after, his power was bounced away by the martial spirit. "What happened? Did I just fail? But I didn't do anything wrong!" Miguel was in disbelief after realizing that he couldn't match with the martial spirit. He clenched his fist in humiliation and didn't want to accept it. After all, it was such a rare opportunity to replace and subdue a martial spirit this easily. They even let him go first just to fail like this.

Even though he forced it repeatedly, the result was still the same. So, he finally gave up and turned to Tessa. "Tessa, come here. Why don't you give it a try then?" Now that he couldn't acquire the martial spirit, he just used the opportunity to gain Tessa's favor.

Tessa was the daughter of the city governor, so the rest of them naturally didn't have any objection to Miguel's suggestion.

"Huh? I don't think I'm quite prepared. You guys can try first!" Apparently, Tessa was still a little nervous. Besides, she thought that because she was a junior among the team members, she wanted to humble herself and give them the opportunity to go first.

"All right. Just take turns and give it a try," Uriel said, urging them not to waste any time.

Immediately after, Xavier and the other warriors at the King Realm scrambled and attempted to try infusing their spiritual power with the martial spirit, but none of them were able to succeed.

Seeing this, Uriel was a little disappointed. If none of the remaining people managed to do it, they just wasted a lot of time and effort. Then, he looked at Rocky and said, "You go on and try it. Only three of you are left now."

"Humph! Of course, he won't be able to do it also," Miguel snorted with disdain in his eyes.

"Captain Ramon, why don't you try it first?" Unexpectedly, Rocky turned to Ramon and asked him to give it a shot while he cast an indifferent glance towards Miguel.

"Why? I think you're more likely to fuse with it than me," Ramon replied with furrowed brows as he denied the kind offer of the young man.

"Come on, don't be too humble! Elder Uriel said to hurry it up, so just give it a try," Rocky urged with a bright smile.

"Fine!" Ramon finally agreed. He then released a stream of spiritual power and directed it to the martial spirit, but to their dismay, it was also bounced away.

"This isn't good. Now, there're only the two of you," Uriel remarked as he stared at Tessa and Rocky. He was starting to get nervous that no one in their group would really be able to match with the martial spirit.

"Basil, go for it," Tessa immediately urged him.

"No, you do it. Besides, I can tell at first glance that I won't be a match with this martial spirit," Rocky answered with a faint smile. He was partly saying the truth because he thought that the martial spirit looked too ordinary to interest him.

"Well then, I guess I'll try it." Tessa hesitated for a moment before she stepped forward and walked up to the martial spirit.

Then she put her fingers together and released a stream of spiritual power that immediately shot towards the martial spirit. To their surprise, as soon as the martial spirit was hit, her spiritual energy immediately encircled it and made it colorful.

The previously manic and restless martial spirit, which had been bound by the spiritual marks, gradually calmed down.

"Tessa, you did it. You are a match with this martial spirit!" Uriel exclaimed in elation. As someone who had done this several times, he could tell at a glance that they had finally found the one who could match with the martial spirit that they caught. He was so glad that their efforts weren't in vain.

"Really? It chose me?" Tessa was still in a daze and the thought hadn't fully sunk in her mind.

Seeing this, the other warriors naturally became envious. After all, they did not have many chances to enter the Martial Spirit Graveyard. Moreover, it was just Tessa's first time to come to the place, but she was lucky enough to replace a suitable martial spirit for her on her first try.

"Now, Tessa, follow my instruction. The next thing you need to do is to use your spiritual power to lead this martial spirit into your body and let it merge with you. While you're doing that, we'll stay here and guard you. So, all you need is to focus and complete the process," Uriel clearly instructed.

"Okay. I'll do my best!" Tessa answered energetically and couldn't contain her excitement. She was more than thrilled to experience such a rare moment that almost everyone was dreading to. However, there was still a possibility that the process of merging with the martial spirit couldn't be completed, so it would solely depend on her effort to accomplish this. Then, under the guidance of Uriel, she began guiding the martial spirit in front of her into her body. Little by little, it slowly approached her as it followed her spiritual power.

At the same time, Uriel, Rocky, and the rest of the team surrounded Tessa to ensure that nothing could interfere with the process.

However, while Tessa was busy luring the martial spirit, they heard terrifying screams that came from various directions, causing them to panic.

"Elder Uriel, what's going on? What are those?" Rocky asked as he tightened his guard further.

"All of the martial spirits inside this graveyard are connected with each other. Once one of them is caught and is about to be merged with someone, the others are also notified. At that moment, they will go berserk and attack the warriors responsible for capturing the martial spirit," Uriel explained briefly.

Not long after, a dark green spiritual shadow quickly floated and shuttled through the mist. Since they only had a single Spirit-restricting Disk, there was no way for them to subdue the other martial spirits that were about to attack them.

In the blink of an eye, the dark green shadow rushed towards them aggressively, like a savage roc. An astonishing spiritual aura surged out from it that even Uriel was taken aback.

"What a powerful spiritual aura!" Rocky's eyes narrowed as he perceived the rapidly approaching shadow.

"Everyone, be careful! I won't be able to move freely for a while since I have to drive the Spirit-restricting Disk while Tessa is trying to merge with the martial spirit. You have to use your maximum spiritual power and activate an enchanted barrier to resist its attack." Uriel instructed them at once of what to do.

With that, the rest of the team nodded at each other and immediately unleashed their spiritual power to create an enchanted barrier.

However, they didn't expect that the power of the dark green martial spirit was far stronger than they initially thought. Even with their joint efforts, the spiritual barrier that they had put up easily suffered a lot of damage from the martial spirit's violent power.

At the same time, more martial spirits were constantly appearing from all directions and were continuously attacking the spiritual barrier that they created to protect themselves.

Seeing this, Rocky shook his head lightly, fully aware that their spiritual barrier wouldn't hold on for a long time. He glanced at Tessa and saw that she was still a bit far from completing the procedure. Hence, he made up his mind, and decisively said, "We can't go on like this. Someone has to draw them away from here. I'll go out and lure them."

"Are you insane? That's too dangerous!" Ramon, who was standing next to him, opposed at once.

"Basil, don't act rashly! Did you forget what I told all of you before we entered here? You can't go alone in this fog!" Uriel reminded him sternly.

However, Rocky had always been a stubborn person and had the tendency to act on his own. If he thought that the advice he heard wasn't going to make any difference, he would still go with what he thought was better. Thus, he immediately rushed out of the barrier and released his spiritual power to attract the attention of the martial spirits that were profusely attacking them.

Because of the unique spiritual aura that Rocky was giving off, several martial spirits quickly diverted their attention to him and began to chase him.

Upon seeing that he had successfully caught their attention, he hurriedly dashed away from their current location.

Uriel's face became extremely gloomy. He knew that there was just a very slim chance that Rocky could still make it back alive after the stunt that he pulled off. At the same time, because Rocky lured most of the martial spirits away, the spiritual barrier still held on. However, some martial spirits still remained there, attacking them, and he couldn't be sure how long the barrier would hold. They could just hope that Tessa could merge with the martial spirit as soon as possible.
