The Medallion -
Chapter 1514 The Team Task
The most interesting thing about the team fight was that they were allowed to fight with each other. Since all four teams shared the same tasks, they would need to compete for the sole task item from their mission. Of course, if one team wanted to get ahead, the abilities of the team leader would be crucial in determining how the strength of their team could be maximized.
An hour before the start of the first round of the newcomer contest, the roster for all teams was announced. Soon, all the strong warriors at the King Realm were seated with their teammates. Rocky got assigned to the red team with Carla, while Eunice was in the blue team.
Given that all four teams had senior King Realm masters, especially ones belonging in the top ten on the ranking list, deciding which one of them would command the team was tough since they were all equally matched.
Nevertheless, some of them were already born with admirable leadership and were backed up by the forces behind them.
For that reason, it didn't take long before the leaders for each team got selected. The blue team was going to be led by Moore, and Carla would be commanding the red team.
Not a minute later, the first round commenced.
The team fight was held in a very famous maze in the Sky-suppressing School called the Mirage Maze.
Just as the name implied, all kinds of mirages awaited anyone who entered the maze. Needless to say, they would surely struggle to figure out if what they were seeing was real or not.
On top of that, spiritual beasts filled the entire Mirage Maze. Their strength ran from the Spirit Realm to the King Realm, and they were all ready to attack the warriors who set foot in the maze whenever they wanted to. Therefore, despite it being only the first round, all four teams would be in for a huge challenge.
Without wasting any time, the four teams headed for the different entrances of the Mirage Maze.
The maze was built between the valley cliffs with complex terrain, so the spectators who got stationed at the top of the cliffs could get the best view of the maze.
At the entrance, the disciples of the four teams each took a deep breath as they waited for their leader's cue.
Finally, all teams, led by their leaders, entered the maze at top speed and started carrying out their tasks.
The mission of the red team was to collect five items in the Mirage Maze, but they would be considered done if they managed to acquire three of them. Among those three items, two must be obtained from spiritual beasts with Spiritual Infant at the advanced stage. Clearly, it wasn't an easy task at all.
"Listen up. We'll be starting with the simple ones first. It would be best if we can quickly and successfully collect the other three since two of these items will definitely be difficult to acquire. Keep in mind that the other three teams also have the same tasks as us, so we'd better have a backup plan." Without further ado, Carla started drawing up their plan.
"Yes, Miss Yu. We're at your command."
"Indeed. Just say the word. We're willing to go through fire and water for you."
"Just tell us if you need anything! We'll do what we can to win!"
Sure enough, Carla was greatly respected by her team members as their leader.
"Well, then. Let's start assigning roles." Carla was born to be a leader. With just a wave of her hand, she instantly arranged the whole team into eight or nine members per group. They were divided into the vanguard, the main force, and the backups. Apparently, she put the weaker ones into the backups.
"I will take charge of the command of both the main force and the vanguard. As for the backups..." Knowing that it wouldn't be easy commanding all three groups at the same time, she decided to delegate someone for the job. She scanned the faces of those in the backups and finally caught sight of Rocky. "Basil will be in command."
The mention of his name immediately caused an uproar among the team members. Everyone looked at Rocky with envy, jealousy, and resentment. They didn't expect that Carla would choose someone they deemed weak. After all, being chosen to lead the backups meant that she trusted him, no matter how puny the overall strength of the backups was. They couldn't understand how she decided to put Rocky in command when there were lots of others who were stronger than him.
"Is there a problem?" Carla spoke in a stern, authoritative voice as she took a gander at her disgruntled members.
Everyone quietly exchanged looks. Although they actually had some objections, they didn't dare say a word. They didn't have the nerve to stand up to Carla since she was their leader.
Even so, the disciples who were assigned to the backups sneered at Rocky and didn't take him seriously. Rocky, however, kept silent. He simply glanced at Carla and wondered why she wanted him to take command of the backups. 'Does she replace out that I'm good at fighting? Nah. I'm sure there's no way she'd think that.'
Trying to lighten the tension he felt from all the stares and glares, Rocky thought he'd crack a joke in his mind. He figured that the reason why she chose him was that she simply didn't have any direct contact with the others. She might have been worried about handing the responsibility to them when she knew she could easily rely on him.
"Good. Let's get moving!" After arraying her members, Carla led the team to start searching for some specific items for their mission.
Instructions were given to them as a guide to tracking down the items they needed to collect. As long as they could comprehend and follow them, they should be able to locate and grab the items despite treading through a maze.
However, they were actually traversing a maze where many spiritual beasts dwelled. Naturally, all four teams would face and fight them, eventually consuming much of their strength.
True enough, in just a couple of hours, the red team had already encountered several groups of spiritual beasts in a row.
Although they had anticipated their presence, it still took them a lot of strength and difficulty to move forward and rush out. Yet, when they arrived at the first prompt point, they found beast corpses scattered all over the ground and an open box that should have contained the item they needed. It was plain as day that another team had gotten there before them.
Carla's eyes flickered in frustration, but still calmly motioned for her members to move along.
Despite their team leader's composure, the morale of the red team undeniably got affected since they failed to secure their first task item. Several members started blaming each other-especially the ones in the backups thinking that their incapacities were dragging the whole team down.
Before long, disputes within the team intensified. Many of the King Realm warriors even refused to cooperate, so the team had lots of trouble making headway.
As much as Carla wanted to put an end to the growing conflict, there was nothing she could do. After all, these powerful masters at the King Realm were instinctively arrogant. Even if she said something, there would be no assurance that they would calm down.
Witnessing all the contention, Rocky discreetly shook his head. He had been keeping a low profile since the other members expressed their resentments towards him.
However, at this rate, he thought that the red team would be in grave danger if they went on like this. That was why, when they had just repelled a wave of spiritual beasts and stood still to rest, he finally had the chance to walk up to Carla.
"Oh, what's up?" Carla asked, surprised to see Rocky approaching. Her arms were crossed over her chest.
"We can't go on like this. If we still don't get our hands on the second task item, I'm afraid everyone in the team might flip out. We have to do something. Otherwise, we might lose our chance of entering the las round," Rocky reminded in a hushed tone.
With her brows almost pushed together, Carla also narrowed her eyes when she heard what Rocky said. "That's true. What do you suggest?" Apparently, they were thinking the same thing.
"Punish someone as a warning to others. Don't give out any commands when the next wave of spiritual beasts attack and just let everyone defend themselves right on the spot. That way, we can all replace out which of the arrogant ones keep on talking the talk but can't walk the walk. After that, you can show them your strength and maintain your authority." Rocky shared his suggestions, keeping his voice muted to keep others from hearing.
When Rocky finished talking, Carla glanced at him and asked, "Do you think that will work? And... are you sure that's a good idea?"☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
