Chapter 1561 Make A Feint To The East But Attack In The West
"The troop of the spiritual race is far more powerful than we are, and it's not possible for us to break out of the prison using force. Therefore, our only chance is to make a feint to the east by creating a diversion in the west. Once they are distracted, we will take the opportunity to escape!" Rocky explained in a low voice.
"We're going to make a feint to the east but attack in the west? Are you kidding, Spiritual King Basil? How do you plan on doing all of this?" Deputy Commander Ma said. His face darkened because it sounded like Rocky was just joking.
"There's no need to worry. I've figured all of this out. Now, let's choose the route that we will use to retreat," Rocky replied, turning and drawing a simple topographic map on the ground that included what he could remember from his journey.
"The troop of the spiritual race used the precipice to the west of the Crescent Gorge and this cluster of rocks to set up this camp. With the way that the terrain is laid out, it makes it easy to defend and difficult to attack. So if we can escape from the camp, it will not be easy for them to catch up to us, especially under the dark of night."
"But with so many people fleeing at once, it will be easy to pursue us," Eunice worried aloud.
"Yes. That's why we have to divide into three groups. One will be led by Deputy Commander Ma and they will go to the south. One will be led by you and they will go to the east. The rest will be led by Kye and will go to the north. Once we lose the pursuers, all three groups will meet at this place!" Rocky said, pointing at a position on the topographic map.
"What about you, Rocky?" Eunice asked, furrowing her eyebrows at the seemingly gaping hole in his plan.
"I'll stay here to cover for you in case you need to retreat," Rocky replied.
"What? You are going to cover for us by yourself? It's too dangerous," Deputy Commander Ma said. Some admiration still poured over him because he hadn't pegged Rocky for the type to sacrifice himself to cover for someone else.
"Yes, it's too risky. I will stay with you," Eunice said immediately.
"I can do it alone. Besides, if you stay, who will lead the second group?" Rocky shook his head and narrowed his eyes.
"But..." Eunice wanted to say something more, but was immediately stopped by Rocky waving his hand.
"We don't have a lot of time to do this. We will take action tonight. A fire will be your signal. That's my job. When you see it in the camp, prepare to break out," Rocky said.
After a brief exchange of looks, Eunice and Deputy Commander Ma nodded in agreement. They had no choice but to agree. After all, they couldn't come up with better escape plans.
"Great. I'll begin now." The moment that Rocky finished speaking, he started activating the Earth-diving Skill that he had learned from a martial spirit in the Scarlet Heaven Jade a few days ago. Suddenly, he leapt into the air and dove into the ground, disappearing like a mole tunneling beneath the earth.
"Let's start making preparations too!" Deputy Commander Ma said.
Eunice nodded slightly, but she couldn't erase the worry from her eyes. Within seconds, she pulled herself together and began gathering everyone to prepare them for the escape.
Soon, Rocky popped up from the ground on the west side of the camp, also known as the deepest part of the camp. The area was used as the grain warehouse for the spiritual race army. Since the west side was built on a precipice, they didn't need to worry about being attacked and they believed that their grain warehouse would be safe. As he approached, Rocky saw that the soldiers that were guarding the grain warehouse were asleep on the side.
Without saying a word, Rocky waved his hand and pushed a brazier closer to the grain warehouse. The brazier fell on the ground, causing a small explosion. The grain warehouse was instantly ignited. Soon, a big fire was roaring. The flames reached the sky. They were so hot that the guards were woken. When they saw the fire in the grain warehouse, they were too stunned to move. A few seconds later, they ran to pick up some buckets filled with water to put out the fire, but obviously, it was not enough to extinguish it.
When the guards discovered that the fire had gotten out of control, they beat on the gongs for help.
Soon, the entire camp of the spiritual race was awake. Many soldiers emerged from their tents and saw the fire in the grain warehouse. Their eyes nearly popped out of their heads.
Meanwhile, the commander of the spiritual race walked out of the largest tent in the center of the camp. He was wearing thick, silver armor and a dark helmet.
"What are you waiting for? Hurry up and put out the fire!" the commander shouted at the soldiers who were standing outside the tents with messy clothes and hair.
They were both half-asleep and shocked from the sight of the fire. Eventually, they snapped out of it and rushed to the grain warehouse.
Perhaps it was because of his arrogance, or perhaps it was because he was very confident inside his own camp, but the commander did not suspect that this was a feint in the east while others were attacking in the west. After giving out orders, he headed for the grain warehouse.
Back in the cage, Deputy Commander Ma and Eunice saw the fire blazing in the sky and realized that Rocky had taken action, so they turned and started destroying the cage.
It was made of simple, thick wood. With the combined strength of Deputy Commander Ma and Eunice, they could easily destroy it, but once they broke the cage, the soldiers of the spiritual race would be alerted, which was why they didn't make a move before.
After carefully destroying their prison, Deputy Commander Ma and Eunice divided the remaining soldiers into groups and led them out.
Seeing that they were breaking through, the soldiers of the spiritual race immediately blew their horn for help.
But the fire in the grain warehouse had attracted so many soldiers already. When they heard the horn, they were confused and didn't know whether they should go to put out the fire or to stop the human soldiers from escaping.
Their hesitation gave Deputy Commander Ma and Eunice the best chance to escape. A moment later, they led their groups and broke through the block of the spiritual race guards. Once they were out, they ran in two directions.
The guards of the spiritual race could only divide into two groups to chase after them. They also had to send someone to report to the commander of the spiritual race.
However, the commander was standing in front of the burning grain warehouse with a livid look on his face. The stock of the grain warehouse was supposed to supply them over the next three months. Once it was burned down, their soldiers could not continue to ambush people in the Crescent Gorge, waiting for the right time to execute their plan.
Finally, the guard arrived and explained the situation.
"What? They broke out?" The commander was shocked when he realized that they had been tricked. The prisoners had lit the warehouse on fire so that the camp would turn to chaos and they could escape undetected.
"Send the annihilation squad after them. Kill them all. Don't give them any chance to escape from the Crescent Gorge. Otherwise, our troop will be exposed," the commander ordered.
Soon after, the group of spiritual warriors who had caught Rocky and his companions received their orders and headed after Eunice and the others.
In the meantime, Rocky realized he had succeeded in creating an opportunity for Eunice and the others to escape, so he swaggered in front of the commander of the spiritual race. Because if they wanted to escape from the Crescent Gorge, breaking through the siege wasn't enough. Rocky had made up his mind to catch the commander.☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
