The Medallion -
Chapter 1689 Stories
Gilbert, who flew into a colossal rage earlier, was now at a loss for words upon realizing Gloria's true identity. He didn't expect the Godly Genius of the Genie Fief to hinder their alliance with the Flower Fief in such an unpredictable manner!
"Leader Gilbert, I question the validity of this engagement covenant! It's ridiculous!" Elder Leticia complained furiously. She could tell that Gloria came to intentionally hinder their alliance.
"Well..." Gilbert found himself stuck in a dilemma. Although he didn't want to acknowledge the engagement covenant Gloria clutched in her hand, their signatures and fingerprints on it were undeniable. But if he did confirm it, he would gravely disappoint the Flower Fief.
"Give me that engagement covenant!" Valeria furiously commanded. She was so enraged at Gloria trying to ruin her engagement that she suddenly lunged at her to reclaim the covenant.
However, Gloria quickly braced herself and swiftly tucked the covenant into her sleeve as she hid behind Gilbert and exclaimed, "Leader of the Ghost Fief, I know you and my father have known each other for a long time. Although we've never met, would you have the heart to allow the daughter of your old friend to be hurt by others?"
She looked at him with a delicate charm that allured the hearts of many of the men present.
"Come out and face me!" Valeria grew even more infuriated when Gloria hid behind Gilbert.
Gilbert knew he was in deep trouble, but Gloria was right. He and the leader of the Genie Fief, Adrian, shared a bond. However, both of them had gone their separate ways and didn't interfere in each other's business for quite some time. Gilbert knew that Gloria had gone too far. But if she was hurt in his territory, it would inevitably cause disputes between the two fiefs.
Gilbert thought about it for a moment before he waved his hand at Valeria and said, "Godly Genius of the Flower Fief, please calm down. I will deal with the engagement covenant. Since you have signed the engagement covenant, you are naturally Odin's legitimate fiancee. Everyone present was a witness to this. No need to worry!"
"But what about her?" Valeria questioned as she shot Gloria a venomous glare.
"Gloria is... also Odin's fiancee now as well since she has signed the engagement covenant, too," Gilbert revealed. It was a fact that the covenant had been signed by three people. He said those words as well to calm Gloria down.
"What?! This is unacceptable! If that's the case, I will call off the engagement!" Valeria firmly and furiously declared.
"She's right. We, the Flower Fief, won't allow such ridiculousness to happen!" Elder Leticia chimed in.
"Please don't worry, Elder Leticia and Valeria. Let me have a thorough talk with Gloria to sort this all out. I'll persuade her to give up and hand over the engagement covenant," Gilbert informed them. He needed to stabilize the situation first before talking with Gloria alone.
"But..." Valeria still wanted to add something, but Elder Leticia realized that if they continued to argue in the presence of so many people, they would turn themselves into a laughingstock. So she interrupted Valeria and said, "Godly Genius, let's go. I trust that Leader Gilbert will provide us with a reasonable explanation for all of this later."
The more experienced Elder Leticia maintained her composure. Even if they came to blows, it would all be useless.
As for the protagonist of this farce, Rocky stood aside and watched in silence. He knew that Gloria would manage to impede the engagement ceremony. But he never expected that she would go so far as to take away the engagement covenant and sign her name on it to turn it into an engagement between him, her, and Valeria. This was no different than her sacrificing herself into a roaring pit of flames.
Nevertheless, he was impressed by Gloria's courage and boldness.
While Rocky was thinking, Valeria had already left with Elder Leticia.
Gilbert turned around and glanced at Gloria. He shook his head and sighed before he said, "Go and get some rest too, Godly Genius Gloria. Let's talk about this later."
"Okay!" Gloria answered enthusiastically with a smile and eyes beaming with pleasure. Judging from Gilbert's attitude, she knew she had little to worry about. He needed to show her and her father respect. Gilbert nodded and ordered his men to escort Gloria and Purple to the guest hall to rest.
He then looked around the square, cupped his hands, and announced, "I apologize for the incident just now. Today's engagement ceremony is over. Thank you all for attending!" Gilbert then arranged several elders and a few senior followers to see the guests out. He turned to Rocky and said, "Follow me."
Rocky nodded and accompanied him. Not long after, they arrived at the conference hall.
Once Gilbert was seated, he immediately asked Rocky, "Odin, how did you and Gloria get to know each other?"
"We just met a while ago," Rocky admitted.
"So you never knew her true identity. Then why did you take her to the square and say that she was your younger sister?" Gilbert asked suspiciously.
"Here's the thing. Before the engagement ceremony, I was cultivating in a lake not too far from the Ghost Palace. I was about to end my cultivation when I saw them sneaking into your mansion. I thought they were up to no good so, to protect myself and hide my identity, I showed them a white feather in surrender. Then, I took them to the square as they requested. I thought they wouldn't have the audacity to do anything bold in front of everyone. I neither expected them to try and hinder the engagement ceremony nor expected that the Godly Genius of the Genie Fief would sign the engagement covenant," Rocky revealed to him.
"Oh, I see. You did the right thing. It's just that Gloria is too reckless." Gilbert thought that Rocky's explanation was reasonable enough. After all, if Rocky revealed his identity earlier he might have been taken away by Gloria. He did the right thing. However, Gloria's behavior was out of line. Gilbert didn't even know how to deal with the mess at the moment.
"What are you going to do, sir?" Rocky asked.
"Well, what else can we do? All that's left is to persuade her to hand over the engagement covenant. You will need to sign a new one with Valeria as well." The entire situation gave Gilbert a headache. He wouldn't allow Gloria to get her way and ruin the alliance that would unite their two fiefs.
"I'm afraid she won't hand over the engagement covenant so easily!" Rocky expressed with a grin.
"I'll deal with it myself. Don't worry about it. You need to rest well and prepare. In three days, you will go to the Nether Fire Land with Valeria," Gilbert reminded him.☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
