The Medallion -
Chapter 1849 Some Dangers
Needless to say, it was just the real beginning of the journey for Rocky and Valeria.
It had not been easy for them to escape from the Ghostly Worm, but it seemed that they had no time to rest just yet. After they ran for only a few miles, the ground under their feet suddenly shook again. This time the tremors felt more like a wave.
"This is different. Is it an earthquake?" Since Rocky had lived in modern society before being reborn as Basil, he knew what earthquakes felt like. Therefore, when he felt the unusual trembling, this was his first reaction.
Sensing that it might become even bigger, he immediately took Valeria's hand and took out the holy treasure from the palace that enabled them to fly for a short period. Then, they quickly soared into the air to avoid being caught up with the quake.
Just before they could fly, the ground already began to crack. However, a few moments after they flew up, the ground beneath them suddenly stopped vibrating.
They observed it for some time, but it had already calmed down.
Seeing this, Rocky and Valeria could just look at each other in confusion. They assumed that it might have just been a false alarm.
Since there was no sign that the ground would move again, the two of them landed on the ground already. However, the moment their feet touched the ground, the strong shaking of the ground began again. Soon enough, the earth split apart and it was instantly on the brink of collapse.
With this, Rocky had no choice but to carry Valeria again into the air. Just a few seconds after their feet left the ground, everything became calm again. Because of this, the two became rather pissed, not understanding what was going on.
"What the hell is happening?" Valeria asked in an annoyed tone.
"I'm not sure. But it seems that a ghostly demon under the ground can sense our spiritual power when our feet are in contact with the ground. So, when we stand on the ground, the ghostly demon reacts, producing those massive quakes." Although he was not a hundred percent sure, Rocky thought that it was the only logical explanation.
"Then, how are we going to move forward? What should we do now?" Valeria could not help but let out a frown. They had already wasted a lot of time. If things continued this way, she was worried that it would be too late when they joined with Princess Layla and the rest of the team.
Of course, Rocky also knew that they could not go on like this. Hence, he entered the palace through his spiritual sense and met with the guardian. "Is there a treasure here that can release a strong spiritual power enough to attract the attention of the ghostly demons?"
Upon hearing Rocky's request, the guardian instantly brought a palm-sized stone base with four human-shaped statues on each side.
"What does this treasure do?" Rocky asked with furrowed brows.
"This is called the Sculpture of Four Deities. With this treasure, you can summon the deities in charge of wind, fire, rain, and thunder to assist you. However, you can only use it for two hours. It will be up to you how you can use them effectively," the guardian briefly explained.
"Only two hours? Well, I don't have any other choice, do I?" Soon enough, Rocky withdrew his spiritual sense and took out the Sculpture of Four Deities.
Upon seeing that Rocky brought out another strange-looking treasure, Valeria could not help herself from asking, "What is that?"
"We are about to know!" As soon as Rocky said this, he infused his spiritual power into the treasure that he got from the palace.
In an instant, a golden light shone brightly and enveloped the Sculpture of Four Deities. Then, the statues on the stone base turned into light shadows and came to life. They rushed out, eventually transforming into human figures.
The four human-shaped figures came in four different colors which signified their nature.
"Please pave the way for us!" Rocky uttered, addressing the four deities.
Immediately after, the deities surrounded Rocky and Valeria. First off, the Deity of Wind released a strong wind that lifted and carried them across the air.
Then, the Deity of Thunder also released its power of thunder that protected Rocky and Valeria.
Next, the Deity of Fire turned into a ferocious fire dragon, moving in front of them. Wherever it passed, the ground instantly became scorched soil. At the same time, harsh howls could be heard from beneath the ground as if the ghostly demons were being burned to a crisp.
"This is amazing! We might be able to get out of here in no time!" Valeria exclaimed. Under the protection of the four deities, Rocky and Valeria could safely move forward. They did not need to walk through the yellow sand where the ghostly demons were waiting for them.
With the help of the Deity of Wind, they moved at an incredible speed. Hence, not long after, they got out of the yellow sand area and entered a primeval forest. The trees here were so huge that they already reached the clouds. At first glance, they could tell that it existed since ancient times. All grasses and trees were unusually large, making them feel like they had stepped into the world of giants.
Upon entering the forest, the power of the four deities was also exhausted. The next moment, the treasure turned into ashes and was dispersed by the wind.
"Just how many treasures do you have? We are lucky that you always have something to keep us away from danger. Otherwise, we might have been killed by the ghostly demons by now." Valeria gasped for air and continued, "I wonder where Princess Layla and the others were teleported. We don't even know if they are safe or not."
"That's right. If all of them were together, then we should not worry too much. But if they were also dispersed, it is even more disadvantageous for the whole team," Rocky said while shaking his head. After they had gone through the yellow sand area, Rocky had been more cautious. He assumed that there were more areas in the Ghostly Demon Land that might be more dangerous, so he could not afford to be careless. After all, he could not die before he accomplished his mission.
As they wandered around the forest, they noticed that it was very dense. It also meant that its topography was more complicated than the previous area. Ghostly demons might be lurking everywhere, so they needed to be extra vigilant as they moved forward. Moreover, it was already dark. At this point, they could not risk going on. Thus, they immediately looked for a relatively safe place where they could rest and wait until the sun rose again.
After securing a tree hole, Rocky took out a stove from the Magic Spiritual Space and decided to cook something. Although they did not really have to eat anything because of their current strength, he thought that it would be an effective way to ease the atmosphere and let Valeria relax. Since they entered the Ghostly Demon Land, she had been too nervous and scared. She did not need to say it because he could see it in her eyes.
If she continued to be like this, it would affect their journey. She might get into unnecessary danger because she did not have a clear head. Hence, Rocky was trying to calm her down.
When Rocky was still living in his original world, he loved cooking for himself, so he could easily make good dishes.
After an hour, he was able to finish cooking a pot of delicious soup. Obviously, it also smelled very nice.
It did not take a while before Valeria's attention was caught by the fragrant aroma. Then, as soon as Rocky finished filling up a bowl, she quickly took it from his hand. As she took a sip, a look of surprise and extreme satisfaction appeared on her face.
"It's so delicious! I did not expect that you will be good at cooking! Wow... I don't even remember the last time that I ate ordinary food; but I still remember when I was a kid, I would just go to the kitchen and replace something to eat whenever I was hungry," Valeria said in a low voice. She let out a gentle smile as she felt nostalgic. Before she was adopted by Flora, she had been living an ordinary life, and she hadn't had to worry about any kind of complicated responsibility. Looking back, she thought that it might not be bad if she still had that kind of life.
"I haven't eaten any normal food for a long time either. I just thought that it would be the perfect time to do it." Rocky smiled while filling up a bowl for himself.
"I'll go ahead and eat first." It seemed that Valeria could not resist the temptation of eating the delicious soup anymore. In fact, she finished the bowl rather quickly and filled her bowl again.
"You don't need to rush. No one will take it away from you." Rocky chuckled, elated at the fact that he was seeing a childish part of Valeria.
"I'm not sure about that! You might eat it all, so I have to finish my part!" Valeria stuffed her face while blushing. She was not really hungry, but she felt so contented with the warmth of the delicious food. Eventually, she forgot all the fears and dangers that they had encountered not long ago.
