Whatever the case might be, Janet was very excited to see that Allie had replied.

She immediately texted back to set up a meeting with her.

Seeing the excited look on Janet's face when she looked at her phone, Brandon narrowed his eyes at her in suspicion. "What's making you so happy? Did Draco text you?" What a jealous bastard!

Janet deleted the message quickly and then stuck out her tongue at him.

She tapped on some unimportant message and held up her phone in front of him. "This store I'm interested in is having a sale. Now I can buy their clothes at a discount, so of course I'm happy!" She smiled, lying through her teeth. Recently, because of Charis's death and Garrett's abrupt resignation, Brandon had been neck-deep in work. Janet didn't want to cause him any more trouble. Brandon chuckled and ruffled her hair playfully. He didn't doubt a word she said.

In fact, before leaving for work, he even handed her a credit card so that she could go shopping to her heart's content.

Later that afternoon, Janet arrived at a restaurant actually owned by the Larson Group.

This was where she was going to meet Allie. She had been through too much to be careless and had learned to take every precaution when meeting people she didn't trust. This restaurant was run by the Larson Group, and some of the employees even knew her. Even if Allie wanted to hurt her, it would be difficult for her to do something and get away with it.

Half an hour later, Allie cautiously poked her head into the private room.

As soon as she came in, Janet saw that she didn't look too good.

"Mrs. Larson, why did you choose this restaurant?" Although Allie looked as calm as usual, there was a faint trace of anger in her voice that Janet picked up.

Allie sat opposite to Janet and asked coldly, "Are you so afraid of me? Worried that I'll take revenge?"

After pouring her a cup of tea, Janet said calmly, "Allie, you worked for Charis, so you know the history between us. You asked me out all of a sudden. Naturally, I should be on guard. You can't blame me for being cautious, can you?"

Embarrassed, Allie lowered her head and didn't say anything.

Fortunately, Janet was patient. She had learned to protect herself. Charis had set a precedent for her, so now, even when a stranger took a few more glances at her, she would be on guard.

Allie could tell that Janet would be difficult to deal with, but there was nothing she could do for now. Since she was already here, she had to get what she came for.

After pouring herself some tea, Janet sat back down. She cut to the chase and asked, "Why did you agree to meet me?"

In fact, she had thought Allie wouldn't want to see her even when she asked if they could meet. Allie had a good relationship with Charis and she had been fired by the Larson Group after Charis died. Naturally she should have a grudge against the Larson Group, its CEO, and the CEO's wife.

"I'm short of money. I can't replace a job. My parents and two younger brothers rely on me to support the family," Allie started to say in a low voice. "After reading the message you sent me, I hesitated for a long time. After all, I worked for Miss Turner for three years. I would never want to betray her, even after her death. But..."

As she spoke, Janet observed her carefully. It didn't seem like she was lying.

"I can help you with the money." Janet took a sip from her tea. "But that'll depend on whether you can help me or not."

Allie didn't seem perturbed in the slightest. She raised her head and said confidently, "I know you're looking for her computer, although I don't know what you'll do with it. But she had a spare laptop and usually I was keeping it for her. After... the incident, I secretly took it with me when the Turners weren't looking. I can give it you if you want. Would that be enough?"
