When they arrived at the hospital, Laney was immediately wheeled into the emergency room. Scared out of her wits, Janet hurriedly called Garrett.

At this time, Garrett was in a meeting. When he saw that it was Janet who was calling him, he wondered if it had something to do with Brandon. "What's wrong, Mrs. Larson? Does Brandon need my help again?" Garrett asked playfully. He had thought that the Larson Group must really need him since everything was chaotic now that he had left.

"No, no. Laney's in the hospital. Come here quickly. It's an emergency. I'll explain everything when you get here." Things were happening too fast. There was no time for Janet to explain. Without waiting for a response, she hung up the phone.

The smile on Garrett's face instantly disappeared. He immediately suspended the meeting and rushed downstairs to drive to the hospital Janet mentioned.

Janet anxiously paced the hospital corridor back and forth. What was going to happen to Laney?

After what felt like an eternity, the door was pushed open and a doctor came out, followed by a nurse, who wheeled Laney out.

Janet ran over to them to ask how Laney was.

"We've done a thorough examination for her. Fortunately, she's not seriously injured; she just bled a little. I do recommend that she rests for a while."

With a good-natured smile, the doctor explained everything to Janet before she could even ask.

Hearing this, Janet let out a long sigh of relief.

"That's good. That's wonderful. Thank you so much, doctor." Janet looked at Laney's pale lips and felt a tinge of guilt.

Seeing the anxious look on her face, the doctor tried to comfort her. "Don't worry too much. She will be fine. Just make sure she gets lots of rest, okay?"

Janet nodded obediently.

Just then, Laney slowly peeled her eyes open. She had a serious stomachache just now and had passed out from the pain. Looking around, she soon realized that she was in the hospital. When her eyes landed on the doctor next to her, Laney bit her lip nervously. "Doctor, how's my baby?"

Although her pregnancy was unplanned, her love for the baby had grown deeper and deeper with each day that passed. Her maternal instincts made her want to protect the child at all costs. The doctor gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry. The baby is fine. Everything is perfectly fine. I can see that you had taken good care of yourself even before pregnancy, so the baby's also healthy. You're going to have one tough baby, ma'am. But you have to be more careful in the future. After all, you're pregnant now. You shouldn't strain yourself."

Then, after making sure Laney was okay, the doctor left.

The nurses then pushed Laney into a private ward and left as well.

Now that the dust had settled, Laney slowly recalled what she had just gone through.

The weird phone call, the woman in black who was spying on Janet... It was all so strange.

"You have to be careful, Janet. That woman in the restaurant..." she held Janet's hand worriedly. "I fought her, and I can tell that she's a trained fighter. You have to catch her before she does you any more harm. Only by catching her can we replace out who is behind this."

Janet smiled bitterly. "Don't worry about me. The bodyguard has told Brandon everything. I think he'll get to the bottom of this soon. You should worry about yourself, Laney. God, I was so scared just now!" Laney squeezed her hand reassuringly. "I didn't know that you'd still be surrounded by danger even after I left. It's not that I don't trust Brandon, but... I don't trust in anyone else to protect you." If Laney hadn't been pregnant, she would've caught the woman in black.

Janet was her best friend and she never would've forgiven herself if something bad happened to her.

Tears welled up in Janet's eyes. She wiped them away with the back of her hand and smiled wistfully.

No matter how many etiquette courses Laney took, in the real way, she would never change. She was still the honest and brave woman she always had been.

The two women were talking when the door to the ward was suddenly pushed open from the outside.

Garrett burst in and threw his arms around Laney without saying anything.

It all happened so fast that Laney was too stunned to speak. Ever since she married into the Harding family, she had always felt watched, so she seldom openly showed affection to Garrett and vise-versa. Tears welled up in her eyes all of a sudden. She clenched her fists and punched him. "You bastard, what took you so long?"
