The Mysterious Luna
Chapter 74

Alpha Colton POV

It had been a couple of days since the attack. Things were settled down and getting back to normal.

I brought the surviving members of Alpha Philip’s territory to mine and gave them the option to pledge their allegiance to me or go rogue. The majority accepted my offer without hesitation and a handful refused to submit. They chose to live as rogues instead of accepting me as their Alpha. That did not bother me one bit, they chose their fate and it likely would end in death.

Alpha Philip’s warriors who fought against us in the war have been sentenced to death. They didn’t deserve anything less after putting my men in harms way.

Alpha Peter and Beth have been staying with us for the past few days. He’s really come through as an ally lately and I owe him so much for his help. I’ve figured out something to gift him as a small token of my appreciation. After all, I’ve gained quite a bit of territory and new members over the past few weeks. Maybe even more than I can handle at this point.

I was in my office waiting for Alpha Peter, I asked for him to meet with me since he was getting ready to return home later today.

Right on cue, there was a knock at my office door.

“Come in.” I announced.

The door opened and Alpha Peter walked in.

“Colton. You wanted to meet with me?” He asked. We were now practically family and in private, we started addressing each other without titles.

“Yes, have a seat. I wanted to run something by you before you left.” I replied, while he got comfortable in the seat across from me.

“You have been a loyal alliance to my pack and I. We probably wouldn’t of survived the past few weeks if it wasn’t for you and your men. I don’t know how I will ever repay you for your help.” I started to explain.

“Nonsense, there is no need to repay me. One day, it will be me who will need help and when that time comes, I hope you will remember our alliance.” Peter replied.

“Of course, we will always fight by your side. But I would also like to gift you The Cold Stone Pack. Your territory borders it and you could easily remove the border and extend your territory, while absorbing their pack into yours.” I continued and Peter’s eyes widened in surprise at my offer.

“Colton, that’s really not necessary. You won that territory in a challenge.” He replied.

“Yes I did, but now that I have also absorbed Alpha Philip’s territory and remaining pack members, I could use your help. I figure since your territory is right next door, this makes complete sense. The only thing that I must warn you about, is Alpha Marco. He does have his eyes set on that land and he may cause some problems. Having said that, if you merge the two packs together, your numbers would be more than double his and he wouldn’t stand a chance at defeating you.” I said and I could see Peter pondering my offer.

“Of course, if you’re not interested, I completely understand. I just figured the extra land and added warriors would strengthen your pack.” I added. I didn’t want him to feel obligated. This is suppose to be a present of sorts, not a favour.

“That’s very generous of you, Colton. If you are sure about your decision, I would be more then honoured to take over the Cold Stone Pack. My men get along quite well with their warriors. I’m sure it would be a simple transition for everyone.” He replied, with a smile.

“Good, then it’s settled. Now, I must go to the dinner hall. Heather’s trial is about to begin.” I said, while standing from my chair.

“Aw, yes. We wouldn’t want to miss that. My men and I will be leaving once it’s over.” Peter replied, while also standing from his chair and following me out of my office.

We made it to the dinner hall and everything was already setup. The majority of the pack was present and chatting amongst themselves.

I spotted Jess, Beth, Sam and Josh sitting at the front facing way from us and I quickly made my way towards them.

“Did you miss me?” I whispered into Jess’s ear before she heard me approach. I felt a shiver rundown her spine when she felt my breath against her skin.

“Mmmm, I did.” She breathed, while leaning her head back against me. I kissed her neck before sitting next to her.

“You ready for this?” I asked, in a slightly more serious tone.

“Yes, I can’t wait for this to all be behind us.” She replied, with a sigh.

“I think they should let me punish Heather. Human or not, I would break every bone in that b***h’s body.” Sam spat out, while pushing her sleeves up her tiny biceps, trying to look threatening. We all busted out laughing. Sam certainly acts tougher than she is.

“Don’t you laugh at me. You guys are always underestimating the measly human. I’ll show you guys.” Sam grumbled.

“Oh trust me, I know exactly what your capable of, my love. I have the bite marks on my a*s to prove it.” Josh teased, while wrapping his arms around her shoulders and pulling her into his chest.

“If you’re not careful you’ll get much worse than a bite.” She threatened, but I could hear the amusement in her tone.

“Silence, everyone. The trial is about to begin.” One of the elders announced from the front of the room.

The crowd went quiet and everyone’s attention was turned towards the door. Two warriors dragged in bitter looking Heather.

“Let go of me! I’m the daughter of an Alpha.” She shouted, while trying to break free from their hold.

“You’re the daughter of a coward!” Someone in the crowd shouted.

“You’re all going to burn in hel…” she started to speak, but quickly stop. Her face drained of colour and she tried to stop her body from moving forward, but the warriors kept dragging her along.

I watched her inhale deeply before one word left her lips.

“Mate!” She whimpered.

I followed her gaze and noticed she was looking at one of Alpha Peter’s warriors. His eyes were dark and he had the same intense look on his face.

The warriors that were escorting her, ignored what was happened and continued dragging her to the front of the room, were they sat her on a chair in front of the crowd. They secured her hands to the chair to make sure she couldn’t go anywhere.

I watched the warrior, that Heather referred to as mate, stand from his chair almost robotically and start to make his way towards her. I was starting to get nervous. I know how intense the mate bond is, this could end badly if we have to try and restrain the man from his mate. The last thing I want, is to hurt someone who has done nothing but help us in this war.

I stood from my chair, getting ready to intervene if need be, but before he reached Heather, he shook his head like he was snapping himself out of a trance. His face scrunched up in disgust and he turned around, before storming out of the room.

“No wait! Come back.” Heather begged, but was ignored by her mate.

I saw a couple of Alpha Peter’s men leave the room after their pack mate, so I sat back in my chair.

“Silence! Let’s get started.” The elder announced and the room once again went silent.

“Heather, you are accused of kidnapping Alpha Colton with the intent of causing him harm. You’re also accused of attempt murder on Luna Jessica. How do you plead?” He asked, directing his question to Heather. Heather’s attention was still focused on the door where her mate had stormed out.

“She isn’t a Luna.” Heather spat out bitterly, without looking away from the door.

“That wasn’t the question. How do you plead?” The Elder asked again.

“I have a mate now. I promise if you let me go, I won’t cause anymore problems.” Heather pleaded.

“Answer the question.” The elder once against ordered.

“I just want my mate.” Heather whimpered, as she realized he wasn’t coming back for her.

“Without a proper answer from the accused, we will move forward as though she pleads not guilty and hear all the evidence.” The elder announced.

The trial moved forward and we heard the evidence from all the witnesses including myself and Jess. Heather was barely paying any attention, her eyes remained locked on the door.

Once all the evidence was heard, the elders retreated to a private room to deliberate.

“Oh my goddess Colton, is he really her mate?” Jess asked, with a concerned tone.

“I think so.” I replied, while looking over at Peter.

“I’ll go replace Clay, my warrior and replace out what’s going on.” Peter offered, before standing up and leaving the room.

Fifteen minutes later, the hall door opened and Alpha Peter walked in, followed by the warrior he referred to as, Clay.

Peter came and sat next to Beth, while Clay’s eyes stayed glued to Heather.

“Mate, come here.” Heather ordered in a soft voice.

I could see the pain on Clay’s face, but he complied and walked towards Heather.

I was about to stand up, but Peter put his hand on my shoulder to stop me.

Once Clay stood directly in front of Heather, she tried to stand in front of him, but the restraints prevented her.

“I, Clayton, of the B***d Stone Pack, reject you, Heather.” The warrior named Clay said firmly.

Heather screamed in agony, as the rejection tore through her. The warrior looked pained, but almost relieved after completing the rejection.

“You can’t reject me, I’m your mate.” Heather panted, while trying to hold her chest, but couldn’t because of the restraints.

“You tried to destroy a mated couple. Clearly the mate bond doesn’t mean much to you.” Clay replied bitterly.

“I’m sorry.” Heather whimpered.

“It’s too late for that.” Clay said, before turning around and leaving the room. Heather screamed and begged for him to return, but he never did.

Minutes later, the elders returned.

“We have reached a verdict.” One of them announced and paused before continuing.

“We replace the accused guilty of both counts and sentenced Heather to death by lethal injection.” He concluded. Several gasps were heard, before whispers started amongst the crowd.

“Please don’t do this. I finally found my mate.” Heather begged.

“You should of thought about your mate, before you committed such horrendous crimes.” One of the elders replied.

“You’re execution will be in 3 days. Warriors, take her away.” The same elder ordered. Within seconds Heather was being dragged out of the room kicking and screaming.

“Is your warrior ok?” I asked Peter, in a concerned tone.

“He will be.” Peter replied.

We all got up from our seats and made our way out of the room.

Clay sat on a bench in the hall, with his head rested in his hands.

“I’m sorry about your mate.” I said to him, while putting my hand on his shoulder.

“It was harder than I thought it was going to be, but I did what I had to do.” Clay replied, while standing up.

“You did, it doesn’t make it any easier though.” This time Jess spoke.

“Actually, I’m relieve.” He started, causing us all to frown in confusion.

“I have a long term girlfriend back home, that I’ve been trying to take as a chosen mate. She’s perfect for me, but she has turned me down for years. She was worried when I found my mate that I would leave her, so she wouldn’t accept me. Her mate had rejected her so replaceing my mate was the only thing standing in our way. Now that I found Heather and rejected her, there’s nothing preventing Tara from accepting me.” He explained with a beaming smile. The love in his eyes was undeniable.

“I’m glad to hear. Go claim your mate.” I said, with my own smile.

“Yes, Alpha.” He replied with a nod, before leaving the pack house like a man on a mission.

“Wow, I’m glad he already has someone to make this easier on him.” Jess whispered in disbelief.

“Everything happens for a reason. He deserves happiness, but she doesn’t.” I replied and Jess nodded.

I can’t believe this is finally over, in three days Heather would be put to death and we can finally move on with our lives.
