Light.

My skin shimmers, radiating light outward until it reaches him.

Darkness.

An impenetrable shadow. His pale eyes smolder, reflecting my radiance. He reaches, and his hands fall to embers at my feet. It’s been this way for five years. He’s always reaching.

Darkness. It blinds me.

The stranger is gone and in his place a whisper.
