Chapter 12

Edith went to work as usual the next day. While walking, she held up her phone in her ear, discussing work with Shane. “Shane, about the cultural relics this time…”

She was turning a corner when someone suddenly grabbed her other wrist hanging by her side.

Before she could react, she was pulled into a dark and empty room.

The work area was newly built. Some rooms had no lights on and were filled with messy clutter.

As the door was slammed shut, the room became dark.

“Who is it?!” Edith couldn’t see the surroundings and was a little panicked for a moment.

Shane was stunned for a moment on the phone, and his voice became anxious. “Edic, what’s wrong? What happened?”

Before Edith held up her phone to answer, she smelled the cold fragrance from the person in front of her. It was so familiar that she recognized who it was immediately.

‘How could it be him?’ Edith wondered.

Despite the confusion, her tense body relaxed a little.

Not realizing her wrist was still grabbed, she said to Shane on the phone, “It’s okay, Shane. I…

Before she could finish speaking, her phone was snatched away. In the dark, Gideon’s indifferent voice sounded. “Mr. Myers, Ms. Jones can’t talk on the phone right now.”

Gideon hung up the phone as soon as he finished his words.

“Gideon!” Edith scolded in a stern voice with a cold face.

She raised her hand, trying to break free, but Gideon grasped her wrist more tightly, making her grimace in pain.

“What do you want?!” Her eyes were full of displeasure, her tone carrying a little impatience.

Gideon didn’t answer.

Edith’s eyes gradually adapted to the dark, and she noticed Gideon’s handsome face was icy cold.

Gideon smiled, his tone flat but filled with sarcasm. “Why don’t you call me Mr. Peterson or Giddy again?”

Edith’s face turned pale.

The wound in her heart was torn open again, with blood flowing.

After a while, she lowered her eyes, her trembling voice tinging with coldness, trying to keep him at arm’s length, “Gideon, let go of me.”

Gideon seemed not to hear her, his eyes locked on her pale face. He asked sternly, “Is Shane the father of the kids?”

Edith looked into his eyes and said calmly, “Does it have anything to do with you?”

“Did you leave me because of him? Huh?” Gideon growled in anger.

As he approached Edith’s face, she felt his warm breath and subconsciously held her breath.

She couldn’t understand what Gideon meant.

He had a child with another woman, but now, he asked her if she left him for another man.

He didn’t love her, and she knew it was a matter of possessiveness.

But she was not something he could toy with at any time.

Edith didn’t answer his question and chuckled. “Joyce and Jeanne are the same age, right?”

Gideon was a little stunned.

He knew what she meant.

“Danika is…”

“That’s enough.” Gideon’s grip on Edith’s wrist loosened a little. Edith shook off his hand and turned sideways to open the door behind her. The light from outside the door came in. Just as she was about to step out, something came into her mind, and she paused.

The light from outside shone on half of her cheeks, making her expression even colder.

She stood upright, her voice as sharp as a knife.

“Gideon, after you sign the divorce agreement, let’s make an appointment and go to the Courthouse
