The Pigeon Pair Saves The Marriage by Janice Gold -
Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Edith didn’t look back, holding Jeanne and walking away.
Ruben glanced at Gideon before they left. Gideon sensed something familiar in that look but couldn’t tell what it was.
Hearing the commotion, Bonnie came out and sighed in relief upon seeing the two little ones safe.
“Thank goodness, you’re fine!”
Bonnie rushed over and, seeing Jeanne sleeping soundly in Edith’s arms, didn’t want to disturb her. Instead, she turned her attention to Ruben..
Ruben was somewhat helpless upon seeing this.
As expected, the next second, Bonnie came over and hugged him tightly.
Ruben wasn’t used to such affection and wanted to push Bonnie away, but then he saw Bonnie crying out loud.
Alright, just this once… he murmured in silence.
On the other side, Joyce grabbed Gideon’s hand and entered the villa. Danika just stood in the hall, her expression veiled in mystery.
“Weren’t you supposed to be busy with work?”
Danika forced a smile, walking over to help Gideon with his suit jacket, but he dodged her, leaving her hand frozen in mid-air.
Seeing this, Joyce clung to Gideon’s legs, whining, “Daddy, why are you always with them? Why don’t you come to see me?”
The child’s words were innocent but heartfelt.
Not wanting Joyce to worry, Gideon crouched and said, “How about I stay here for the night?”
“Okay!”
Joyce, delighted, pulled Gideon toward upstairs.
Danika remained in the hall. She was supposed to feel happy, but there was no joy on her face, and she knew exactly why.
Perhaps if it weren’t for the child, Gideon might not even spare her a glance.
When Gideon finally put Joyce to sleep, he came downstairs and saw Danika wearing a thin nightgown, holding a glass of wine, and seated on the sofa.
“I’ve got to get back to the office.”
Danika was used to his excuses. Gideon never stayed overnight.
But…
Watching Gideon walking out, Danika couldn’t help but step forward and hug him. “Giddy…” She called out.

Gideon frowned, then heard Danika saying, “Please, don’t push me away, okay?”
The next second, Gideon forcefully removed her arms and stepped away, unwilling to touch her.
Danika laughed scornfully, and Gideon spoke up with a deep voice.
“Take good care of Joyce, Danika.”
His voice was hoarse yet strikingly calm. “Lyn is my best friend, and I’ll never betray him.”
‘Is that the only reason?’ she wondered.
Danika wanted to tell him to stay, but Gideon strode off without giving her any chance.
The breeze tonight was a bit chilling, causing her a headache.
When Edith woke up the following day, the two little ones were still asleep.
Not wanting to disturb them, she gently stroked Jeanne’s cheek and kissed her softly.
With much work awaiting her at the lab, Edith had no choice but to ask Bonnie to help with taking them to school.
Bonnie, terrified the day before, was fully revitalized, declaring, “Don’t worry, mission guaranteed!”
Edith couldn’t help but laugh. Her best friend was still like a child at times.
At the laboratory, as soon as Edith entered, she sensed something was amiss. Everyone wasn’t busily engaged in their work as usual.
Instead, they were gathered together as if something had happened.
‘What’s going on?’ she thought.
Edith approached. A team member came over and hurriedly said, “The machine is broken, and it seems it won’t be fixed anytime soon.”
“I’ll go check it out.”
As the team leader, Edith often had to handle additional tasks.
She changed into a fresh set of clothes and went to talk to the equipment team’s head. Then, she learned about the situation.
The nitrogen machine was broken. It wasn’t costly, but it was frequently used.
Once the artifacts were sent to the lab, they had to be immediately washed with nitrogen gas for preservation. It was to prevent any changes to the soil on their surface, which could damage the artifacts,
This meant that all subsequent work had to be halted, leaving everyone idle.
Plus, it would affect the entire work schedule.
After thought, Edith decided to notify the Peterson Group. If her team stopped working, the entire project would come to a standstill.
However, Edith didn’t want to deal with Gideon again and chose to contact Ray instead.

Chapter 21
When Ray heard her voice on the phone, his first words were a habitual report. “Mr.
Peterson is currently in a meeting about a suburban development project. Mrs. Peterson, do you need him for something?
After speaking, Ray paused and then, somewhat awkwardly, corrected himself. “I mean…Ms. Jones.”
He really wasn’t used to it!
Edith didn’t mind and pretended not to hear, speaking gravely. “I’m calling to inform you that the lab equipment is broken. It will take about half a month to get the parts from overseas and repair it, which could affect the entire excavation progress.
“This…”
While she was speaking, there seemed to be a sudden silence over the phone. Edith asked, “Can you hear me?”
“Do you need me for something?” A man spoke up.
It was Gideon’s voice.
Edith’s breath caught for a moment, but she knew that the work matters shouldn’t be affected by her personal ones. So, she patiently repeated herself.
After a long pause, Gideon finally spoke. “Write a report and bring it to me when you have
time.”
Edith frowned. Wasn’t this something a project secretary should be doing?
Perhaps sensing her thoughts, Gideon spoke again. “What, you can’t handle this small task?”
Edith gritted her teeth. “Okay, Mr. Peterson.”
The International Artifacts Restoration Association indeed hired her team, but they still had to prioritize the Peterson Group’s requirements when it came to domestic arrangements.
She had no choice but to accept.
Edith hung up the phone and closed her eyes, calming herself for a while before opening her laptop.
Her movements were not gentle, tinged with emotions.
Gideon handed back his phone and returned to his office, remarking, “Let me know when she arrives.”
Ray instantly got it, but before he could respond, Gideon had already closed the door.
‘Man… Hearing that it was Edith on the phone, he just took it without explanation, even insisting that she write a report,’ he thought.
Ray suddenly felt he couldn’t understand his boss anymore.
Finally, after Edith managed to write up a report, she decided to deliver it herself to prevent Gideon from replaceing any faults.
This machine really chose the worst time to break down.

Chapter 21
According to the plan, they were supposed to start repairing a new plot of land this month, but now it had been delayed by half a month.
Edith felt that her return date was getting further away.
At the Peterson Group, Edith approached the reception desk. Before she could even speak, the secretary addressed her. “Ms. Jones, right?
“Mr. Diaz said you can go straight up.”
‘Did Gideon expect me to go up and report to him in person?’ she thought.
Edith pressed her lips and nodded, not uttering a word. Despite her reluctance, she stepped into the elevator.
Once she was in the office, Edith was still coming to terms with the situation.
‘I just came to deliver a document. Why does it end up having to wait until Gideon’s meeting is over?’
Ray entered the room with a cup of coffee as Edith pondered this.
