Frey locked her car, grabbed her bag, and headed toward the elevator. Just a few steps in, she heard faint footsteps behind her.

Her heart leaped into her throat. Calmly, she pulled out a bottle of pepper spray from her bag.

She hadn't carried this before, but recent events had made her more cautious and prepared.

Peyton had gifted her a whole box of these sprays. Frey was both amused and grateful for this thoughtful gesture.

Tightening her grip on the spray, Frey reached the corner and instead of continuing forward, she hid behind the cement pillar.

The footsteps grew louder. She waited until they were close, then sprang out and sprayed in the direction of the sound without looking.

The man yelped and covered his eyes. Frey was taken aback when she realized who it was.

"Nathaniel?"

Nathaniel had been eager to speak with Frey. After being discharged from the hospital today, he initially considered visiting her at Andala Corp but felt it would be inappropriate if he went there because of a private matter.

So, he decided to wait at her apartment. After three hours in the underground parking lot, he felt a mix of discomfort and regret. He had driven Frey away, and now he was uncomfortable asking her to return. Adding to his anxiety was Jacob's death, which further strained their relationship.

Despite this, Nathaniel was determined to make amends. He had risked his life to save her and hoped he might still have a chance to talk things over.

As he waited, he felt unusually humbled by the situation. He had never been so humble before a woman. After scrolling through his phone and playing a game to pass the time, he finally saw Frey's car and rushed to catch up.

However, his relief turned to pain when Frey accidentally sprayed him. His eyes burned intensely, and he could barely keep them open. Frey was startled and quickly went to his aid. "Are you okay?"

Hearing her concerned tone, Nathaniel felt a bit better but winced in pain. "It's bad. It hurts!"

Frey was taken aback. Was Nathaniel acting like this in front of her?

Despite her lingering resentment, she helped him into the elevator and up to his apartment.

Once there, she set him down on the sofa, hurried to fetch the medical kit from the utility room, and got some water from the fridge to rinse his eyes.

Nathaniel reclined on the sofa, rubbing his eyes. As Frey worked on him, he listened to the sounds she made and smiled faintly.

Squatting in front of him, Frey carefully cleaned his eyes and applied eye drops. Though she harbored resentment towards him, she couldn't ignore the fact that he had saved her from the fire. She was unsettled by how vulnerable he looked. The more he seemed to need her, the more she felt lost about how to handle it.

After finishing, she grabbed her phone and dialed Koen.

"Koen?"

"Ms. Frey?" Koen answered promptly.

"Do you have time to take Mr. Nathaniel to the hospital?"

"No!" Nathaniel interrupted, grabbing the phone from Frey's hand. "There's no need to come over. It's nothing serious. I'll manage. You don't need to worry."
